even in the law school that i'm at they straight up tell you it doesn't matter how good you are, the recommended way to get a job is just to network till someone likes you and luck out

So what this thread has taught me is that capitalism works perfectly well for those who work hard, know the right people, and get lucky...
11/9/2011 2:02:10 AM
capitalism should work in a way that's compatible with the American dream.however, it's come to our attention that it was taken from us millimeter by millimeter right under our noses.
11/9/2011 2:05:01 AM
Well it's obviously not working, because 150 million people are too lazy, unlikeable, or unfortunate enough to succeed[Edited on November 9, 2011 at 11:04 AM. Reason : asdf]

I really hope that no one in this thread truly believes that making money is "lucky".You do realize there are numerous ways to make $100k, almost guaranteed. Here's a few off the top of my head.1) Get a professional degree2) Get a job in sales and put forth effort3) Get a professional designation and then get a job4) Build your own business5) Work a moderate paying job and save your income and invest it in assets that will produce income for you (this takes longer than 1-4, but requires much less effort)6) Become really good at something that people are willing to pay you for. This could be entertainment, teaching a skill, gambling, etc (this one is more difficult that 1-5, and isn't possible for everyone. Tough shit.)The common factor in all of these is effort. That's really all it takes to make $100k. Luck can help determine how quickly it happens or how much you might make beyond that. But effort is a common denominator. You don't truly believe Doctors (#1), Salesmen (#2), Accountants (#3), Zuckerberg (#4), people who live frugally (#5), and NBA players (#6) are all just lucky, do you?

^the value of the money is worth less than it was 10 years ago.the value of $100,000 doesn't get you as far as it did back in the day.We need to focus on retaining the value.i.e. pay off debts.i.e. stop printing money.[Edited on November 9, 2011 at 2:32 PM. Reason : .]

While I certainly agree with that statement of fact, at the moment $100k is certainly enough to raise a family comfortably. Also bear in mind that most of the people in 1-6 are making more (and some many times over) $100k.
11/9/2011 2:37:15 PM
Ssly why not protest something worth protesting. All the things wrong with the world and people are fighting about distribution of wealth in the richest country in the world. People in 75% of the world's countries would die so that their families could live in the USA being part of the 99%.
11/9/2011 2:45:48 PM
lol yeah the problem is that people don't have enough incentive to hoard
We deserve to be better than the other countries because we worked for it.There is nothing that says other countries can't be as rich as us.
11/9/2011 2:50:37 PM
lol
11/9/2011 2:52:29 PM
You just proved the hypocracy of the whole occupy movement.I would say the majority of the 1% worked for it. Now with your statement you are being the 1%. except for in the cases of people in 3rd world countries where they have no chance, People in the US actually have a chance of making a nice living for themselves with hard work
11/9/2011 2:54:26 PM
^^^^Yeah. Went to lunch with a coworker who lived in France for a while. He said you can't declare bankruptcy there, have to put up several hundred thousands of dollars earnest money when starting a new business, credit card debt is unheard of, and bouncing a check will pretty much get you black balled from every bank in the country.
11/9/2011 2:55:14 PM
ahahaha i set him up for it
11/9/2011 2:59:24 PM
it's pretty simple proceeds from economic activity have to come from consumption or investmentand nothing ensures this equals the amount required for full employmentdudes

I can't wait to join the 1% by killing a bunch of natives and taking their land and then using slave labor to produce my waresv yeah unemployment for recent college grads is like 10-15%. I dunno what unemployment for recent law grads is but it's high.[Edited on November 9, 2011 at 3:41 PM. Reason : ]

^can you name a western nation that has had slavery for the last several generations?if you want to find some slavery, you're going to have to look in South Africa,Ethiopia,Chad, Mali,Mauritania,Sudan,Ghana, Togo, and Beninall ironically which are in africaand i guess you think those same people sold to various countries 200 years ago would be better off there today too i suppose. thanks for pointing out that simply having a 2 year degree or higher basically guarantees you are employed currently/threadcredit -> bobbydigital[Edited on November 9, 2011 at 3:44 PM. pack_bryan, the media is run by corporations. the news presented to you is screened by corporations.
11/9/2011 3:57:00 PM
so you morons are saying actual video of actual people saying actual sentences with no breaks in the feed is censored 'lying media'? [Edited on November 9, 2011 at 3:57 PM. Reason : l]
11/9/2011 3:57:11 PM
I don't watch TV because I'm usually working too much
11/9/2011 3:57:32 PM
absolutely.they do it in fiction films all the time.
11/9/2011 3:57:55 PM
what i'm saying is that the interviews that the media chooses to show you is the equivalent of going to the south and picking somebody like you (or any member of your family) as a representative. you'd get on TV, dribble oatmeal onto your chin, and people would laugh at the south as usual
11/9/2011 3:58:30 PM
LoL... what's spike tv's motto?It's not reality, It's actuality.
11/9/2011 3:58:41 PM
for the 'corporations' no doubt while i'm being lied to by actual crystal clear 1080p live feed from the actual sidewalks where real actual human beings are expressing bullshit opinions in broad daylight.right

^yeh man those are the only options available. also. whats the fuck-up about making only 40k a year? is it like a 'requirement' now that everybody makes 60k a year just to fucking survive?hang on i need to go watch a youtube video of some OWS'ers that were CGI'd into the video with better than Avatar level graphics/lighting and soundlol[Edited on November 9, 2011 at 4:22 PM. 11/9/2011 4:19:13 PM
so basically you're admitting you've formed your opinion about the goals of the OWS movement by watching a few carefully selected interviews of dumbasses?cool, now i understand and can comfortably disregard everything you say
