NFC South is a complete joke, haha. Wildcard teams are looking forward to beating whoever ends up winning the NFC South(hint: it's the Saints).

^ Most teams will NOT be winning inside the super dome. Sorry pal. But if it us (the panthers) then we could possibly host like a 11-5 cowboys team and get blasted LOL...then again do yall remember the 7-9 seahawk team from a few years back?

"Better starting QB, Eagles’ Mark Sanchez or Panthers’ Cam Newton?

Cam Newton or Mark Sanchez?

That’s the question former Pro Bowl quarterback Boomer Esiason was asked by Michael Barkann and Ike Reese on the 94WIP Mike & Ike Show in Philadelphia on Friday

The Carolina Panthers haven’t won in four weeks, and Newton’s play hasn’t been what people in Charlotte have come to expect from the former No. 1 overall pick. But have things really gotten to the point that there’s a serious debate?

There is in Philadelphia – the site of the Panthers primetime game Monday. The Mike & Ike Show spent much of Friday asking fans if they would rather have Sanchez or Newton as their starting quarterback for Monday night’s game. The majority, they say, chose Sanchez, who has taken over for the injured Nick Foles.

Esiason said his answer is not as cut and dried as it might have seemed a month ago, either.

“That’s a very good question,” Esiason told the Mike & Ike Show. “Cam has really struggled here of late. I would still want Cam, simply because he’s young, he’s dynamic, he’s a superman when he plays at a very high level. I think he has been somewhat hamstrung down there in Carolina by some of the decisions that they’ve made this past off season, and he’s really been hurt by that.

“But the interesting thing is, if you had to tell me I could have Mark Sanchez for what he’s making, as opposed to what Cam Newton thinks he should be making, then I would take Mark Sanchez.”

Newton is due to become a free agent after the 2015 NFL season.

Is this just Philly fans being Philly fans? Or is there more to it?

On Wednesday, Observer columnist Scott Fowler noted that his inbox has been full of messages saying the Panthers should start Derek Anderson and never sign Newton to a long-term contract.

“Although it is harder to be one these days, I remain a Newton supporter,” Fowler wrote. “I believe Carolina’s best chance to win long-term is to eventually sign him to a long-term deal.”

So, is Newton still the quarterback of the future for Carolina?"

yes, yes he is.

He's had 3 bad games, before which he was playing at the highest level of his career. The timing is unfortunate as it's coincided with an improved effort from the defense, but its still only a small drop in a very large bucket. Starting over with a new QB would be absolutely disastrous for this franchise. Jake Delhomme isn't walking through that door.

Oh dear god. I mean, Newton has been pretty awful the last couple games. But have people forgotten how terrible Sanchez was? Because if you have...take a look at who is at the very bottom of this list

Fuck outta here with this bullshit:

I don't care if Sanchez plays for free...you don't want him as your starting QB. Fucking idiotic

Yet Sanchez will probably get the win tonight. One can hope that Cam will end up without as huge a contract after this season and then figure out how to be good again after that. May allow us the space to build around him.

Seems like a lot of people are assuming that if you choose Sanchez that you get the rest of the Eagles offense with him, while if you choose Newton that you're saddled with the rest of the Panthers offense

because a QB is responsible for the offense, defense, and special teams

I thought we were smarter than assigning wins and losses to quarterbacks

Sanchez was serviceable enough to make 2 AFC championship games; having an extra $13 million in cap space to work with gives you a lot of options on how to build a winning football program around your quarterback.

Put Cam in that Chip Kelly offense with those weapons and he is destroying the league. I'm not a huge Cam fan, but Chip Kelly would make him a star.

^^ you don't pinch pennies with a QB entering his prime, especially when that QB possess tools that no other QB in the league has

^they had to the option to fire Rivera in favor of hiring Chip Kelly, and they went with the safe, conservative choice (which is par for the course)

^^^The Jets didn't make the AFC Championship because of Mark Sanchez though.

There are a good number of NFL QBs that possess the "inconsistent accuracy" tool.

It's funny cuz it's true.

Personally I think the Panthers are in a shitty position regarding Cam. He's gonna want huge money. He hasn't proven himself worthy of superstar money. If they give him lots of guaranteed money/money not tied to incentives, they are morons. But they can't not get a deal done. That would be a terrible look for the franchise.

There's only like 5 QBs in the league worthy of superstar money

I almost want him to go somewhere else, even though management will never let it happen, just so some of you people can see how bad we suck with the next Jimmy Clausen or Brian St. Pierre

it's pretty damn easy to be fine with a few overthrows per game when your QB can more than make up for it in a variety of other ways

his accuracy is fine, and he routinely throws absurdly accurate, through-coverage throws that get dropped a few times per game

Tom Brady has consistently overthrown his receivers deep for the past 5 or so years, but folks let it slide seeing as how he's Tom Brady

Let's not forget how much Cam has had going against him, and how remarkable his improvement has been. Outside of Gus Malzahn, who taught him how to run plays by reading flash cards held up by coaches on the sideline, he hasn't had any good coaching in his entire career. Especially compared to guys like Wilson, Luck, and Kaep. He took over a very bad team that has improved defensively but still lacks talent on offense. The whole media narrative of being the next Vince Young, etc....

Despite all that, he's been consistently improving as a passer since entering the league. While he hasn't thrown for as many yards as his rookie year, his efficiency numbers have all improved. Before these last 3 games, he was leading the league in advanced passer stats. This was after coming of an offseason of rehab and injuries where he missed months of practice time. If anything, what's holding him back is the amount of time spent running the read option instead of actually playing pro football.

At this point, I think it's too late to fix some of the problems that cause the inconsistencies in his game, especially the tendency to throw high when pressured. That's really a mechanical problem that only reps can fix, and you only get so many of those in a career. What he needs now is a decent offensive line, some WRs who can consistently catch the ball, and some decent coaching before it's too late for him altogether.

I don't blame Cam exclusively, but he's definitely a large portion of it.

Taking bad sacks(holding the ball too long on a few of his sacks).
Throwing 3 interceptions, thought one was that horrible hail mary attempt at the end of the half.
Missing a ton of passes.
Trying to force the ball into coverage.
Looks completely immobile.

He just doesn't look like he's healthy or on tonight.
