I don't know what field you're in, but I can definitely empathize with the whole forgetting thing. If it's any consolation, I feel there'd be a difference between the knowledge gained in your grad degree and the on the job experience at the company. Surely there'd be some training, right?

To the person who thinks they are forgetting too much... I don't think this is an isolated case. I'm in engineering and I have forgotten a lot of stuff I learned in school. I used to be able to do integrals, derivatives, differential equations, etc. by hand without much thought but now unless it is a very simple case I have to spend like 30 mins trying to figure it out or get MATLAB to help me. My specific job is in controls and I haven't touched any other aspect of engineering since 2007 so I feel like I don't remember a thing regarding them.

I would think that a controls job would require insane math. At least ample doses of linear algebra. But maybe it's more of the actual instrumentation in the field of straightforward (and isolated) closed loops where system oscillations and such aren't a concern.

There is a ton of math but the linear algebra is on the order of like 1000x1000 arrays so obviously it is way too much for someone to do by hand -- it's all done by computers now (Which really makes me wonder how they did things back in the 60s). Conceptually I know what is going on but if it weren't for the pre-programmed machines and software I'd be in a lot worse position.
