I have just discovered 1 on 1 no-limit tournies at Paradise. These are perfect for me. I always find that my conservative play will get me to #4-5 in a 10 person sit 'n' go without fail, but I always have trouble making the money because some idiot keeps going all-in and hitting. Now, I can isolate players at a smaller blind level and play my cautious game.

I found this 1 on 1 "tournament" amusing. One hand and done.

Game #876652242 (Level I, Game #1) - 5/10 No Limit Texas Hold'em (1-on-1) - 2005/06/27-15:09:18.5 (CST)
Table "Ambitle" ($10 tournament) -- Seat 7 is the button
Seat 4: JennyB2004 (1,000.00 in chips)
Seat 7: JROCC68 (1,000.00 in chips)
JROCC68 : Post Small Blind (5)
JennyB2004: Post Big Blind (10)
Dealt to JennyB2004 [ As ]
Dealt to JennyB2004 [ Kc ]
JROCC68 : Raise (15)
JennyB2004: Raise (70)
JROCC68 : Raise (210)
JennyB2004: Call (150)
*** FLOP *** : [ Ad 2d Jh ]
JennyB2004: Check
JROCC68 : Bet (770)
JennyB2004: Call All-in (770)
*** TURN *** : [ Ad 2d Jh ] [ 8h ]
*** RIVER *** : [ Ad 2d Jh 8h ] [ 5h ]
*** SUMMARY ***
Pot: 2,000 | Board: [ Ad 2d Jh 8h 5h ]
JennyB2004 bet 1,000, collected 2,000, net +1,000 (showed hand) [ As Kc ] (a pair of aces)
JROCC68 lost 1,000 (showed hand) [ Tc Ac ] (a pair of aces)

Of course the thought of AA or AJ went through my head, but with the level of internet morons out there I figured I'd take my chances.

Well, in most cases I'd agree with you. But with 1000 in chips and the blinds at 5/10 heads up, you have some room to be cautious against the average internet player.

K9... which is an awful hand 10 way. Q8 suited, however, heads-up, is a pretty good hand to play.

nah i wasnt in the blind, but there were only a few people at the table. looked good to me

i actually didnt realize i had it until i won the hand, i kept clicking check/fold around to me while i was paying attention to another window

just thought it was cool, havent got a royal flush online before today

oh and im not trying to argue that im the best or anything... if something feels good, i play it. i play for fun, not profit. people get so mad at me when i beat them with [5 10] -- but i play it just about every time im dealt it

don't i atleast get the right to use the whiney phrase "but it was suited"? i thought we had already covered this. it's not a hand i usually play. i guess i had a feeling i wanted to bust out on the first hand.
anyhow, the guy never bet his set ... that's what my whine-point was. the whole hand was checked to the river. yeah, i'm an underdog from beginning to end in the hand. but, it's not like i knew he flopped a set and rivered the boat. it happens. i whine, i move on. i moved on and forgot about you, guess you didn't.
i never claimed to be pro either. but even i wouldn't call with Q8 off. (not hating on you travis ... but props for the royal. i've never gotten one ... have hit quad aces though. that was a nice pay off.)
i'll talk smack to jackleg about his playing any day. he's a friend person i've known for a long time and take joy in cracking on.
really though, i couldn't give a shit if he wins or loses. same goes for the rest of you self-professed gods of the game. i do it for fun as well. and i get ill when AJ off busts my Aces on the river with a four-flush. i mean, there is nothing that excites me more than being over a 90% favorite on the flop and getting busted on the river. it's great.

7:30 yesterday:

First hand is pocket Jacks. I raise and someone calls...flop is all rags. I bet bigger and he calls
Next card makes the board look like a straight is possible. I still bet he calls. The river comes Ace.
I check. He checks...He had AQ maybe he was chasing his straight to the river

10:30 yesterday:

Dealt 8d 9d. Flop is 5d 6d. Bet more than the blind. I'm called. Next card helps neither of us. I bet more than the blind again. He calls. Next card is Qsomething but not a diamond. I check, he checks. Has something like Q9...jeez.

My last hand. 9h 6h. I call. Flop is 5s 8s 4s. I go all in. Called by two. Next card is a 3something and next one doest help me either. Someone turns over K8 (OFFSUIT,NO SPADES) and other ones has Qsomething (AGAIN NO SPADES). K8 takes the pot and when asked why he called says "There was an eight on the board" I'm like, fuck that 8...you didnt see that flush draw AND straight draw...that didnt scare you with someone going all in AFTER the flop. Sometimes I wonder...

^^Better question is why are you going all in after that flop. The absolute best you can hope for is a 7 that's not a spade or 3 outs. Maybe you thought the 9 would win it for you which would give you 2 more outs. Still not a good move.

The guy flopped top pair to what was probably an unraised pot. You wouldn't have went all in like that had you flopped a flush. He put you on a draw and called. At least i guess that was the reasoning. Not sure why the Q high called. it may not have been a very good call but your all in wasn't a good move either.

I was short stacked and the amount of chips I had at the time would have made it much harder to call me say if I waited around while the blinds continued to raise forcing me to play a hand I'd rather not play.

^^Oh I see...you just wait around for your pocket pairs or high connectors. You'd probably throw 9,7 suited away even if no one raises

Celeb wins at WSOP

Quote :
"LAS VEGAS (AP) — Actress Jennifer Tilly is no poker pretender. Tilly won the Ladies no-limit Texas Hold 'Em event at the World Series of Poker, marking the first time a celebrity has won a bracelet at the famous tournament.

Tilly's skillful and self-admitted lucky play earned her $158,625. She beat 600 players to capture first place in the grueling two-day event that featured some of the top female pros in the world. The buy-in was $1,000.

"I think she showed an incredible amount of talent," WSOP media director Nolan Dalla said. "She had an enormous chip lead and never looked back. It was almost as though her victory was never in question."

Tilly, 46, said she's learned plenty of pointers from her boyfriend, poker player Phil "Unabomber" Laak.

"When you're living with Phil, you kinda learn by osmosis," Tilly told CardPlayer.com. "Even in the middle of the night, he wakes up screaming out poker terms. Most guys scream out other girls' names. He'll wake up and go, `I should have bet more on the turn.'"

Tilly, an Oscar nominee for her role in the 1994 film, "Bullets Over Broadway," is the first woman in this year's WSOP to win a bracelet.

The WSOP is being held at the Rio hotel-casino.

Actually a TWW poker tourney has merit. We could make it at a common site (Party Poker I suppose, even though they blow) and have it either free or for a small buy-in. How many people do you think would come out?

first off, your last hand made no sense. you go all in with a gutshot straight draw, no flush draw, hoping two people behind you will put you on a flush draw and get scared away? is that the correct thought pattern that went through your head? just trying to figure it out.

secondly, you should throw away a 9 - 7 suited even if no one raises unless you have position or you think you can make a move on the pot based on who is in it at the current time.

Im a VIP on absolute (as im sure about 75% of their players are). I think that VIP's can set up private tournaments.. Ill look into it.

I know pokerstars has hosted other groups i play with in the past, and even thrown in some to the pool. (but this was like $50/entry w/ rebuys, they added like $500)

I have an open letter to the experts.
I limped in from second position with Kh, Qh. Big blind raises, doubles the blind. We were at 50-100. I call, and there are two others: one behind me and the small blind. Flop is Ah, Jh, Kc. I hit middle pair and a straight flush draw. checks to me so I take a stab at it for 200. Folds around to the initial raiser who then doubles my bet. Ok, yeah, he has an Ace and a high kicker, or hit two pair. Hard to figure that out. I call ... I have outs at that point.
I have about 600 invested going to the turn. It's a 2s. There are only two of us in the hand and he goes all in. i have more invested than i have left. had like 400 i think. i debate it for a few seconds and finally just call. so, i hit my flush and win.
while it was a good result ... was it the right call? should i have bet differently after the flop?...or not at all?
go ahead and reem me ... i know someone is.

With 800 in preflop, and 800 in on the turn, you were getting 5:1 on your all-in call for 400. Not a bad call with 12 outs.

preflop play is good. You don't want to raise in second position and the big blind just doubling is such a weak play its amazing. You can't fold to his raise, you're getting too good of odds.

--i'll probably catch some heat for this--

I don't really like the postflop lead. With a preflop raise (even just the min) you know that the Big Blind has a decent hand with probably an Ace (the check raise seals the deal here, he either has two pair or trips, maybe AQ). At this point I disagree with your play. This is either fold or allin (for the reason read on).

after the turn you're getting fairly good outs to make the call. You committed yourself to the pot after the flop though because of this "i have more invested than I have left" so you might as well have put it allin postflop. See in this situation I personally would have folded after the reraise on the flop. Calling means I'm pot committed so no matter what I have to go allin even if I miss on the turn (since it appears that the BB won't fold and by check-raising is practically forced to leadout on the turn).

--------
while I don't agree with the straight call postflop because it doesn't let you fold after the turn, the BBs play is straight up horrid. It can be summed up in this quote from a forum member on http://www.pokersourceonline.com/forum "Minimum raises make baby jesus cry."

I swear, when I play online it is so stressful to me. Even though I only play either low buy-in tournies ($10-$50) or occasionally semi high buy-in tables ($50-$200), it still stresses the shit out of me. I think it has a lot to do with the pace of play online, especially heads-up. If I play someone head-up in real life, odds are it's gonna take about 2 minutes per hand, depending on if there's betting, we see a flop, etc. Online, the pace is unbelievably quick. I think I sometimes play 4-5 hands in a 2 minute time period, so there is absolutely no time to relax, get excited about a big win, or brood over a bad beat.

I am the complete opposite.

ive played up to 15/30 online, and not broken a sweat about it.

in a casino, i get nervous going above 4/8, and still get shaky playing 6/12. i was going to play 10/20 one night, bought my $500 in chips, and about shat myself while on the waiting list. decided against it.

it makes no damn sense.

online, the speed of the hands to me helps smooth things over. I dont want to have time to think about how that fuck nailed my flopped set of aces to a 4 high (in hand) running flush (happened last time in AC at 6/12). Having to sit for 15 minutes for the next 4 hands folding, replaying everything that happened, staring into his stack, wondering how i check-raised him twice on his garbage, then realizing he's getting up and walking away chaps me much worse than playing online ever has. I get off-kilter so much worse when i can look someone in the eye.

But online i play SH (6,5-max). you dont have time to think about wins or losses, and it helps keep me focused.

btw, to my reference of someone walkign off after a big win, "walkers" piss me off. Usually older asain men who walk around a card room looking for a soft game to make one pot in, then leave for another table. Seems like i usually have at least 2 blasted guys with no sense at a table at a time. the tables i like to chose get hit with walkers alot. Seems like i always get hit more than the fish they are trying to drain. its frustrating to have someone you know for a fact will not play another hand if they win money off of you suck out on you.

It'st ime to ramble b/c ive got another 15 minutes till lunch time, and no one at all is at my office.

In the limit ring games in every card room ive been in (except 2/4) the texture is the same. There seemingly always is one guy that has a huge amount of chips (usually chips that the poker cage wont give you if you buy in directly.. meaning they brought chips in from other games in the casino.... you know the type). This one player is feeding the rest of the table. You fight for cards to play against one guy, and he gets singled out rather quickly. He may beat you, usually hell call you down with K high. Its really odd, i feel like it almost turns into a tournament at that point. you rush to accumulate as many chips as possible before he gets disguisted or worse, busted. everyone at the table is running and begging for cards. Its quite different from anything ive ever seen online, and it seems to happen at least 2-4 times every time ive played above 4/8. On good nights, they keep having to make change with $100 chips every few hands, and are very willing to do so. Its the strangest thing. These guys are usually wasted, begging the waitresses to bring them two or three drinks at a time and never ever seem well to do.

btw 4/8 in a casino can be tougher than any 5/10, 6/12, 10/20, or 15/30 ive ever played online or live. Many grinders it seems. It's also a local favorite.

Anyways, as you can see i got the bug for AC. ooooooooo holiday weekend, targets everywhere.

Was.

they never changed my thing back.

btw. if anyone has a nice set of paulson chips, id be willing to buy if you are selling at a rock bottom price. casino used, custom, dont care. if they look good, ill buy them. however, im not looking to spend more than $0.50 per chip. I do realize this is about 1/3 of the price they are giong on e-bay, but if someone needs some quick cash....

Online tourney play on Absolute is a joke. I swear, if you go all in trying to knock someone out, they will call you with say K9, I hold K10, and they will always hit their lower kicker. It never fails. 6 times in a row today it has happened.

Usual idiots playing in a toureny.....I am sitting at around $1600 in chips about 45min into this $5multi. 177 people in it, already down to about 100. Well this fuck has been raising every hand, so I call the 60bb, and he is to my right and makes it 180 to go, I knew he prolly had shit, so I reraise him all in. He has like $4600 in chips. He calls me.....with A3suited. I hit my Jack on the flop, but of course he hits his ace. I asked him how in the hell he could call me, and he was like "I was suited....highest card in the deck suited, I will call a 3rd of my stack with that anyday." Just fucking unreal. I wish that would have been a cash game so I could have gotten back in and taken all his money. Its people like that online that piss me off. Morons who think A anything sutied is a GREAT hand.

anyone know of a way to check how many raked hands you've played on pp, i know how to check it on your bonus account, but do they track it for even non-bonus related stats?

This same hand just KOed me from a tourney. Granted I was way shortstacked, but still.
