I wonder if they will ever tie their story back to the main plot line?? ( or prove to us all that they are more than willing to waste our time on pointless subplots )

they've already came out and have admitted it to being a big mistake. It can also be blamed on the fans though since they were complaining about not knowing anything about the other survivors. They already had Rose and Bernard, don't know why they thought they needed Nikki and Paolo.

I tried to get across in my post I was uncertain about it being "Jacob", thanks for pointing out I meant Richard.

I didn't mean to say Richard was reincarnate Richard or some such thing. I meant that Richard is worried that perhaps Locke is reincarnate of some figure central to the Island's destiny.

I just read this on cracked.com about a historical figure named Jeremy Bentham:
