i like them

my friend has a XD .45- that thing is a joy to shoot

i think though for the money, Id spend a little more and go for the S&W MP- that thing is the best thing i've fired so far (I think when I get around to getting a 40, that is what I will get)

The XD-m, in the full size category, is nicer than a M&P, has higher capacity, and has interchangeable back straps, so for the very similar price, why not get more bang in your 40 or 9mm 5 inch service pistol?

i was just going from personal experience- they both feel about the same to shoot, but the MP had less muzzle flip and it produced more precise groupings than the XD did for me

but it really is up to the shooter to decide what is comfortable for him/her

^^ yes, the M&P has the back strap deal, that was the biggest thing they had over the XD, now that the XD-M has the same feature WITH a load of other things tacked on, plus springfield was running a 'get 2 mags and a carrier free' coupon with new gun purchases.

Wideners.com is alot close to NC and charges less shipping, I go to them first.

Ammoman is an asshole price gouger.

I've had good experiences with Ammoman, however I always shop around before I order.

Supply and demand, more people stocking up, supply roughly the same, prices go up. I'd rather see a higher price on whats left than a [SOLD OUT] sign, but maybe that's just me.

Moral of the story, shop around, different places obviously have different prices, whatever is cheapest to the house, that is where I go.

Anyone had their hands on a Savage 99? I'm thinking of selling my T/C Encore and picking up one of them.

the Encore...is that the rifle or the "pistol"? how accurate is it?

[Edited on December 14, 2008 at 2:34 AM. Reason : nevermind, that's the rifle...Contender is the one I couldn't think of.]

what caliber is your 99?

the TC is damn good, even better with aftermarket barrels and you can get it in some funky ass calibers. The JDJ and whisper stuff is especially weird but oddly attractive.

I thought Widener's would be better on ammo prices, but I guess I was wrong.

165gr Blazer Brass $15.50 plus tax and shipping OR $12.47 plus tax at wal-mart.

^^^ Well I'm thinking I want one in .308 WIN, which seems like a good all around cartridge for the Eastern Woods.

^^^^ I've topped both my barrels (.50 black powder and .270) with Leupolds and can shoot (roughly) MOA groups .

Rifle, Pro Hunter version, .50 Blackpowder and a .270 barrel. Both 28"

I'm not going to sell it until I have a gun to replace it, but I'll post on TWW when I do.

I heard that Savage Arms is tooling up to remake the 99 in some kind of run. Might be a thing to consider for a while as older 99s are somewhat short in supply.

AR pistols are fun to shoot but are not very practical. I enjoyed mine but sold the upper recently, I didnt get that much use out of it.

stop taking away all my fun

but on a different note, I'm looking for a good safe that I can install in my truck. It would be in my truck underneath the bench seat in the rear, so it can't be too big. I'd like to have this by next monday so I can take it down to GA with me (my brother has the tools there so we could get it bolted down and ready for quick release if necessary (from the inside the safe, of course))

anyone know where I could get one? It doesn't need to be fancy (although, I would like an electronic key pad if possible). I've checked 4 walmarts in the area, as well as sam's club and no one has anything in stock. Any other ideas?

scroll almost to the bottom, and find this http://www.gunvault.com/

I have read many good reviews of this one, it runs forever on a battery and has a key override just in case.

as I mentioned earlier, I just bought an XD 40 cal. This is my first gun, so I was wondering if some of you all could recommend/post some good sites on anything dealing with XD's, target shooting, cleaning, ammo, etc (I know I can google this - and I have - but I'd like some stuff with recommendations from you all).

Thanks

I have 2 no name class electric lock safes with key override, both function well, and as they sue a cheap solenoid to pick the unlock, and you then manually turn the unlock handle, they keep functioning. Not as fast as the swipe finger or type code and drop open types, but fast enough.

The small by bed one is a stack on drawer safe from dicks sporting goods, got it on sale for 15 i believe. Holds 1 gun plus mags and flashlight just fine.

my truck safe is a Honeywell that was a Big Lots bargain safe.
Honeywell 2050 0.55-Cubic-Foot Shelf or Floor Safe with Digital Keypad
Walmart caries them via web, or can do free site to store where it is shipped tot he store for you to pick up. Amazon has them, so do most of the off the wall security shops. Note a fire safe, but a decent portable
