At DT, we'll have the following next year:
AMC LeRoy Burgess Wayne Crawford
I expect that Kuhn and Sweezy may move to play on the inside. We are also recruiting a couple JUCO DT's as mentioned, along with the ones that will come in and redshirt next year. 12/1/2008 11:18:09 AM |

Have you not read half the posts about how football recruiting works? The stars really don't mean a whole lot. A one star recruit can end up being just as good as a five star recruit a lot more often in football then in basketball. 12/1/2008 1:01:45 PM |

1* just means he hasn't been evaluated yet. TOB recruits good TEs and they're key to Bible's offense. 12/1/2008 1:11:14 PM |

I like how he was recruited to be a DE but everyone jumps to TE.
I think he could be a tweener like Manny and Willie Young.
He has 3 to play 2, so I expect he'll redshirt with the depth we have at DE assuming we lose no one.
And typically a 1-star means they have not been evaluated, 2-star means they haven't been evaluated and have committed to a DI school. That's why a lot of our 2-star recruits get bumped up to 3 shortly after committing, and why somehow UNC's 2-3 star recruits all end up 4-stars after committing, haha.
The fact that BC was also on this guy as well and with O'Brien's track-record of JuCo players here, I'm going to figure on this guy being a solid player. Might not be a 5-star game-changer, but I imagine he'll help depth and make some solid plays for us over the next few years. 12/1/2008 1:20:45 PM |

http://www.newenglandrecruitingreport.com/news/article/368/CatoBishop-is-Two-Sport-Star.php
Quote : | "Ironically what makes Cato-Bishop so successful on the basketball court is the same thing that brings him similar results on the gridiron…his size, strength, physicality, and hard-working approach to the game.
To say it plainly, the kid is a flat out winner. Regardless of the game, you can pretty much guarantee that he will outwork the competition and do whatever is necessary for his team to earn the victory.
“I’ve always had that approach to the game,” Cato-Bishop told the New England Recruiting Report. “It’s primarily because of my dad. He always taught me that if I ever wanted to get anywhere in life I had to put my all into it.”
So while many players in Cato-Bishop’s position would likely try and find a college where they could play both sports, it is no surprise that he wants to chose only one so that neither gets cheated.
“I really just want to choose one,” he said. “I want to play at the highest level and I probably won’t be able to do that if I’m trying to play two sports.”
Basketball has been a big part of Cato-Bishop’s life for a long time as he has run with the prestigious Boston Amateur Basketball Club and most recently starred at Lawrence Academy. It wasn’t until his freshman year that he tried football, but he has shown himself to be a star in the making in the short time he has been on the field.
“I’m really not sure which one I want to play yet,” he said. “I definitely have more recruiting interest in basketball right now, but the football coaches are starting to come on strong too.”
Whichever sport he plays, you can bet the program that lands him will become more successful just by adding a player of Cato-Bishop’s character. There are few others his age who understand what it means to really compete like he does. " |

According to Rivals he is the 29th best JUCO prospect overall. Both Rivals and Scout have him as a 4* prospect. Holds offers from Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. He's a pretty big time recruit. Consider that LeRoy Burgess was only a 3* prospect and ranked the 69th best JUCO overall in 2008 and played significantly for us this year.
Ah well you beat me to it. Many of the most successful programs find JUCOs that fill holes for them. Terrence Cody at Alabama is a prime example of this.

Herbert had a good visit but isn't known to have committed on the visit. He seemed to be impressed with the school and commented on seeing the program on the rise and seeing a star in RW.
Byrd seems a bit iffy to me right now. He has ties to Wake obviously with Smith there and I think he jumped on us because we were the first major program to offer. We really needed to get him here for the Miami game and I think that would have sealed the deal with him, but it was a noon game so he couldn't make it up for it. Hopefully the coaches sent him a video of the game or something or he's able to get down and at least see the school since he won't be able to see a game.
After his visit to Wake he's still committed and said he liked Wake but still really wants to see State. Just odd that he couldn't come by here even after the game or for the 2nd half if he made it to Wake. 12/1/2008 8:39:18 PM |

and since hes a year behind, hes a year older than everyone else. im not sue how that affects his development. if hes a year more developed than the people hes playin with, and only a **? or maybe it makes him better when he gets here b/c hes more developed? who knows. A lot of good football players go unnoticed by the recruiting sites. Example of a story I read somewhere is this. Two players on the same HS team. Player A is better than Player B, but Player B's family has more money and is able to go to a bunch of the most well known combines in the region where all the big name scouts will be. Player A comes from a single parent home and can only attend a local camp or two. Player B is rated by Scout as a 5* player and is recruited by the big name schools (tOSU, USC, LSU, etc) and commits to one of them. Player A is a 2* player on Scout gets noticed by his local newspaper's press clippings that are seen by a couple of regional BCS level schools that aren't huge names nationally (Maryland, Pitt, Cincinnati, Rutgers) and gets offers from them. Player A while being the better football player doesn't have the means to getting noticed like Player B. Let's not downgrade a player just b/c he's got two stars by his name. Manny Lawson only had two stars by his name and went down as one of the best special teams/defensive players in school history. 12/1/2008 10:48:36 PM |
Maverick1024 All American 4866 Posts user info edit post |
^Agreed. There's simply no way recruiting sites can look at everyone. There's even a slimmer chance they can accurately assess the players they're looking at. I had a guy on my high school team who was an absolute star. He was a 6'5 WR that ran a legit 4.5 40. I still think he holds some state record for the most receiving yards in a single game (300+). But because he had to work when he wasn't playing football, he never got to go to any combines, bowls, etc.
Sad, because he could've been a star. He tore it up at a AA school for a while, but got hurt and never recovered. Shame...
Still ... getting a few 4 and 5 star players is never a bad thing. Not looking like we'll get many, if any, this year though.
