if you've ever seen staal in a shootout, you know he was exactly where he should have been.

I don't have his shootout record right in front of me, but I don't recall him sucking any worse than the rest of the team, which as all know is pretty bad. And wouldn't you at least consider a guy that already has a two-goal night? I do remember him ending the shootout in a big game against Florida last year.

Ward activated from IR, hopefully he's fully recovered from the groin injury.

I really enjoy David Amber's facing off. He did his Q&A with Eric Staal.

I agree, 5 on 3 for 2 minutes killed them. I think new changes need to be on the powerplay, we need to run a box with a screener. I think it is the only way to change this. Staal looked out to lunch a few times on the side of the net. I think we should just screw things up on the power play lineup and throw Bayda, Walker and LaRose together and just see what happens, can't be much worse than what's happening right now.

By the way does anyone thing Eaves in the Eric Staal Bobblehead commercial sounds almost southern? I found it kind of funny.

They waste the powerplays, it seems. They just do a lot of passing. I mean, wouldn't it be better to just take as many shots on goal as possible?

yea, they are gunshy, none really want to shoot or they are trying to be too cute with the puck. they just need to start putting the pressure on the goalie. but it's been like this for the past two years.

we move the puck so slowly on the PP that there are no decent shots to be found

i wish i could go back to the pittsburgh game so i could see how many blocked shots they had on the PP

it had to be at least 15, just because we were trying to force shots through

I hope last nights shoot out against the Ranges showed you why Staal should never be in the shoot out.

^^ Agreed.

What we are lacking, and have been lacking for some time, is creativity. I still believe that it stems from Laviolette's beat them through pure brute force system. It works well at even strength, and you look at last night and we were the better team at even strength, but on the powerplay and in the shootout you can clearly see the lack of vision. Francis is the man who can fix this, and he needs to aggressively get on it.

passing a lot without shots =/ no chance at scoring

Of course it doesn't mean they will score but if they hammer on the goalie, they at least have a BETTER chance. When they pass, it just seems so OBVIOUS where the puck is going to go. I mean, you can see the offense shifting in response to the slow passes. Shooting means the puck will bounce off something and then no one knows where it's going...which seems to be better odds than not shooting at all since the puck gets swiped by the defense during Carolina's slow passing.

Anyhow, last night they kept going down low and the ranger's goalie was all over the ice. We thought they should have went high for a better chance...

That's a good point, because Lundqvist is pretty much unbeatable down low. You have to shoot high on him.

that's pretty much what Lundqvist does is take away nearly everything low.

We were watching it with some lifelong Ranger fans so we couldn't hate too bad on them but they told us it was over once we got to the shootout...and guess what? They were right.

The Rangers are 8-1 in shootouts this year. It's honestly ridiculous.

Also, if you want to score against the Rangers, I suggest you draw as many penalties as humanly possible. The Rangers have allowed 12 goals on the PK all year. Meanwhile they've allowed 10 goals while on the power play.
