^^ weak sauce. I dont give 2 shits about nascar. Go home little boy.

^ That noise is probably doing more harm to the ratings than the 0-0 1-1 games.

I wish they would ban them. But I dont think so. At least not for this WC. I posted this earlier in the thread.

The world football governing body, FIFA, wanted to ban the use of vuvuzelas during the World Cup 2010 because of concerns that hooligans could use the instrument as a weapon and that businesses could place advertisements on vuvuzelas. However the South African Football Association (SAFA) made a presentation that vuvuzelas were essential for an authentic South African football experience,[2] and FIFA decided in July 2008 to drop the ban, allowing vuvuzelas at Confederations Cup.[18] President of FIFA Sepp Blatter opposed banning the vuvuzela, saying "We should not try to Europeanise an African World Cup."[19] FIFA ultimately decided to allow the instrument for the 2010 World Cup as well,[20] except for Vuvuzelas being longer than one metre

I prefer the constant hum of the vuvuzela to the loud whistling jeers european football fans make, but I don't really mind either.

South Africa's goalie wants them louder:

Quote :
""We couldn't hear the vuvuzelas," Khune said. "We expected to hear them and to be lifted by the people and the noise and the atmosphere. It was a letdown."

"It was very disappointing for us. It was very surprising. We thought there were going to be a lot more South African fans there.

"The atmosphere was not that good. It was not what we expected. There were a lot of Mexican fans there. It was like a Mexico home game. It was a Mexican advantage.""

If you thought today was boring, you might wanna sleep through tomorrow's first game, South Korea vs. Greece.

being that soccer has been around longer than anything that you call a sport, im pretty sure the definition of what a sporting event should be is not left up to you

Well, that lasted about 47 seconds... Sorry soccer, I gave you a chance but as usual you bored me to tears instantly. I do appreciate the ceremony, the national pride etc., but the actual game sucks

I like international soccer a lot just b/c of the pride involved, but any sport that can end in a 0-0 tie with a bunch of ppl blasting the ball over the goal as highlights isn't an entertaining sport.

However, I will be cheering for us tmrw

^5 There's as much "work" to appreciate in a 0-0 draw in soccer as there is in a 110-100 game in basketball. Basketball is just set up so that it's easier to score points. I'm a fan of both sports for different reasons, but the rarity of goals often only adds to the drama in a soccer match. Like you I find some sports boring that others love, but when the majority of the world can get so excited about something, I can usually at least acknowledge a reason. Of course, France and especially Uruguay did turn in some bad offensive performances today.

^^^I don't mind Tirico but Lalas is disgusting

V I mean work as in teamwork, tactics and strategy, not just running.

^^what the hell does that have to do with anything?

wait, so someone made fun of lane kiffin, and that gives you the authority to bash a completely unrelated sporting event?

that makes no sense. it's like someone started an argument with you, and instead of joining the argument, you completely switched topics and started arguing about something unrelated

STOP ENGAGIN' THE TROLLS. They're doing us a favor keeping this thread at the top where it should be anyway.

Didn't get to catch the games today, save the second half of the Uruguay game via ESPN radio on my phone. I'd wake up for the first game tomorow, but it's the most defensive team in the world versus a team with little firepower. I'll almost definitely be up for Nigeria and Argentina. Can't wait for the US-England game tomorrow. All the talk goes out the window now.

Come on you Yanks.

if someone watches football for the first time they're not gonna appreciate the majority of stuff that goes on, like 1 yard runs, or good defense, or basically your usual carolina panthers game

they'll just sit there and say, "where's the 60 yard throw, or the 80 yard run" this game sucks

but to those who know the game, they appreciate simple things like a pass or several connecting passes, or a certain player's performance, or tactics, etc
not to mention the excitement that comes with knowing a team, country, and its history in the sport

those of you watching for the first time only have goals or crazy stuff to look forward to so therefore you are in no position to make judgements or comparisons to others sports that you know well

This!

These are nothing new to soccer. The Estadio Azteca in Mexico City is the worst place in the world when it comes to vuvuzela noise. So what is the wine and cheese crowd of France and England don't like them. They'll be gone sooner than later anyway. France isn't going anywhere. btw, Spain had these horns at their home game the other day, so hopefully they don't complain.

It means the oddsmakers and/or market suggests:

-An England win has a ~63% chance of happening
-A draw has a ~23% chance of happening
-A USA win has a ~14% chance of happening

England and USA are shakiest on defense right now, but I wouldn't count on OVER 2.5 goals. Both sides know they've got problems at the back, so they might overcompensate in the name of caution. I think Dempsey will end up dropping back quite often to break up England's midfield, and England will take a very methodical approach as this is the first game and their toughest group opponent.
