i, too, think strange mercy may be my AOTY the more i listen to it, but i also never got tired of father, son, holy ghost. so i don't know. also saw st. vincent and had to sit out from the girls show even though i had tickets because i hurt my leg and couldn't bear the idea of walking to the metro, walking to the 9:30 club, standing on hurt leg for 2 hours, then walking home.

I don't know why, but it's weird saying St. Vincy has AOTY, but there's not another single thing that would even fit.

I really thought Pitchfork reviewed this Camp album and panned the shit out of it, but I can't find it. Maybe I'm imagining things...

New Sharon Van Slutten

http://pitchfork.com/news/44706-new-sharon-van-etten-serpents/

Also, I saw Cat Martino who is/was in her band last Thursday at the Pinhook. I was not impressed. The last thing she did was this methed-out Cure cover. The Loom was okay, though.

^Oddly, she was one of the neon dancers for Sufjan Stevens on his last tour. When I went to see him in Asheville, I thought it was the girl from SVE's band and then I looked it up, and sure enough it was her.

She does all the echoey background vocals I think. Because that's exactly what her show at the Pinhook sounded like.

SVE is a pretty good songwriter, but Cat needs to stay out of the limelight, in my opinion.

Yeah, I really, really like this Gold Leaves LP.

I'm a sucker for this stuff. Cotton Jones is another good example...

Not to perpetuate my natural tendency to be negative on here, but I can no longer stand Cults. It's basically unlistenable. "You Know What I Mean" I used to think was a good song earlier right when the album came out, but now the vocals are chalkboard scratch-esque to me.

Anybody else visited albums from earlier this year to discover a "what was I thinking" moment?

got those 110% Black Keys and SVE leaks

that Blouse album isn't bad but the singer isn't different enough from Class Actress and it is distracting

^just listened to one track of Blouse's (from Pitchfork) and I like it. Vocal-wise, maybe, but it sounds different from anything by Class Actress that I've heard...

never been a huge fan of arctic monkeys, mainly because i'm fundamentally opposed to any artists that are fellated by the UK, but for some reason i decided to check out their new album today. "suck it and see" might be one of my favorite songs of the year.

so after one listen of the new black keys, i think it's better than brothers. i got tired of brothers pretty quickly though, and i thought there were a couple stinkers on it. i also really hate how dan auerbach's vocals have become so nasally over the last few years. bring back thickfreakness era dan auerbach please.

also didn't realize charlotte gainsborough has a new record coming out in 2 weeks. looks like beck produced this one. i really like what they did with IRM in 2009. hopefully the new album rules. diggin this song

http://stereogum.com/892332/charlotte-gainsbourg-paradisco-feat-beck/mp3s/

if only beck would stop producing and start releasing more of his own stuff. maybe next year...

Love how he uses the phrase "pre-Kanye inferiority complex" and how he ends the review with "tell me that ain't insecure." It's not a very good review because it's more like a personal attack on Glover's personality than an analysis of his music, but it's still pretty funny.

looks like they've graduated to the arena circuit now, which kinda sucks. i would've loved to have seen them at the 9:30 club in DC, but they're playing the verizon center, so ticket prices probably won't be worth it. shame on me for never seeing them anywhere other than bonnaroo from the release of rubber factory until now, i guess. good show for getting hammered drunk and rocking the hell out for 2 hours, though.

Swift put out two new songs recently... link provided has Forest of Death also, which is new for any aged Swift listeners.

http://soundcloud.com/swiftband

Supposedly putting out a new album next year, followed by a mini tour. We shall see what happens.

Pretty funny drama, but another reason why Twitter really sucks. Not sure why they decided to pay this dude any attention, and I think what he does is a far cry from "rock n roll," as it's merely Steve Winwood-esque adult contemporary bullshit.

But you all know how much I love Bon Iver, so yeah...

Easier than not having a Twitter account?

I've just come to terms that the only reason a grown man would need a Twitter account is if he's famous or trying to sell somebody something.
