Well, I did say "poor man's".
But you're right. Gottfried may or may not have banged a coed at Alabama. Calipari leaves major infractions as parting gifts.

Gottfried is not the problem and was not tonight. Indiana is a really good team. Still, I think we are better. I think the players blew the moments to control the game. Actually I know they did. Missed dunks, fast breaks, free throws, stepping out to guard that little white guy down 1 with ~1 minute to play. Just stupid shit.

granted we started out like shit and had some questionable shots at the end (several by Leslie), I'd hardly consider Indiana a mediocre team the way they have been playing. Not elite, but definitely a potential Top 25 or 30 this season so far11/30/2011 10:09:56 PM |

im still on the Gottfried wagon. had mixed feelings about his mouthiness to the ref. it was a couple of shit calls and i was glad to see that Gottfried wanted to win as badly as the fans... but its not yet that time to be getting that heated with the refs. I doubt indiana ends up a top 25 team at the end of the year. They were a solid squad, but we should have beaten them. They can certainly hit open 3s, and it's on us for allowing them to do so.
We got outscored by 18 points at the end? That's a pretty shameful collapse.

Unlike in past years, we don't have to wait another month to bounce back from this game and hopefully show improvement against a legitimate opponent. The team would not get better playing 6-7 straight games against Deleware State-type teams.

1. I don't know what game some of you were watching, but Indiana is NOT a mediocre team. 2. Could we have won this game? Yes. Was it a Sendekian meltdown? No the fuck not. 3. WE ARE GOING TO LOSE SOME GAMES THIS YEAR. This team is already night and day different and better from last year, but don't start thinking we are going to be top dogs and expect it--they still have a lot to learn. 4. This team has a lot of desire to win. They learned some lessons last night and I expect to see them improve. 12/1/2011 9:33:02 AM |

Lorenzo, in the post game, said exactly what happened, once they got up 63-57, (i think that was the right score), they got excited, thought they had won, thought IU was going to mail it in, and they stopped playing team D. Just a maturity thing. Hard to blame them too since they really don't know how to win yet.
But as others have said, this team is already night and day different than the last couple of years, the loss stings but they know what their doing. 12/1/2011 9:57:29 AM |

^Yeah, they were letting it slip away even before the bs flagrant call. As much as we may not want to admit it this is still a work in progress and realistically we're still a year away. As awful as the ACC is this year and good some of the mid majors have gotten I doubt the conference gets more than 4 bids and I'm not ready yet to put us in that group just yet.

Indiana is a really good team this year, obviously top 20 right now and we hung with them and had a shot to win. That's a good sign.
Everyone knew we'd need to overachieve to make the tournament this year, next year is our year. We've known that for literally FOUR years now that next year is the year we make noise so there's no reason to get all upset that this isn't the year. This is the year we support the team and enjoy the fact that we look competent for the first time in 5 seasons.
In the words of Brock Lesnar "You can't make chicken salad from chicken shit". We've been chicken shit for 5 years. This year we're not chicken shit, we're more like chicken tetrazini. Chicken tetrazini if you've never had it is edible, but it's not any good and it's one of the least pleasurable ways to combine chicken and pasta that I know of. It's just an inefficient use of resources.
Anyway, once we get our chicken tetrazini year over with we can start being the big dogs. Big dogs get fed stuff like steak, potatoes, etc. They get spices that are expensive sprinkled on their food sometimes too. That shit is good. Big dog food you know. People that put in work like upperclassmen 4* and lowerclassmen 5* get to eat the spices, while the other teams play for old spice championships.
A year from now we'll be sitting around drinking bud lights and telling people, I went to State that's my school. Where'd you go to school? I bet not somewhere that has a better basketball team than State. And that's something you probably haven't said in five years. And for that we owe Gottfried a fountain filled with virgins.
Now what the fan base needs to do is start issuing chops to ESPN for showing those fucking parents the whole game. The only thing more annoying is Eric Williams mom every fucking game circa last decade and Mateen Cleaves gold chain when he couldnt play against UNC in the late 90s.
Where were we. Oh yeah. Steak, medium. With the potatoes. Sprinkle those spices too. Oh that's not on the menu this year? Okay, I'll pre-order it for next year. 12/1/2011 10:06:17 AM |

That call on Wood was borderline. Could have gone either way. He continues to have a what the fuck foul almost every game, it's got to stop.
face, your our boy Richard needs to step it up. He killed us last night. I expect him to terrorize a majority of the ACC this year. He's definitely got the potential.

Howell sucked total codsac last night no question. Glad to see he admitted as much on twitter. I dont read twitter but other people do and then they relay it through other means like posting on a message board and I read it. Once I've read what that person wrote about what someone else tweeted, sometimes i even convey to my friends what that person wrote that the athlete tweeted. Sometimes this is done with spoken word, but often I just text it. Technology is really revolutionizing the way information spreads.
I hear that one day you could play Mortal Kombat with a friend in Vietnam. This internet thing could be huge. People in Bangladesh one day may have Wolfpack tee-shirts and wear them and talk about men named Vandenburg. They may think he is the Mandenburg. One thing is for sure, our perimeter defense sucks this year. 12/1/2011 10:16:51 AM |

That's a really terrible metaphor, but I tend to agree with most of what you said
The team is playing really well for the most part. Indiana is a great team with tons of athleticism and talent. While it would have been awesome to close it out and play a complete game, I think a lot of you have ridiculous expectations and think that we're Carolina or something.
Dumb plays, missed free throws, and getting absolutely destroyed in transition are really what cost them the game last night- not piss poor coaching. The way they responded in the first half to come back and take the lead is exactly the type of play they'll need to win ACC games. They will learn and get better. For the first time in YEARS, it's actually fun to watch a basketball game. Anyone who watched them run the princeton offense under herb knows exactly what I'm talking about. Talk about boring and painful to watch. At least this team knows how to rebound...
I'm looking forward to seeing them play in person in Palo Alto on Sunday- it's the first game I'll be attending in 5 years... 12/1/2011 10:19:08 AM |
