i never got that excited over lew. i did get excited over fergie. i just thought it would be awesome as hell to see a ginger dunk over other acc players. (although now i realize that will never happen) i was just hoping that if the kid was nasty enough to dunk w/ both hands in high school, he might get a shot at dunking it over somebody in acc play, making them look ridiculous for getting posterized by a ginger.

while we are in the doldrums of summer, let's talk about who will have the 2nd biggest impact this year from our incoming freshman only.

JJ is the clear cut #1 impact player, but i am going to say javi has the 2nd biggest impact by years end. i can see him getting a fair amount of playing time, more than johnny or tracy. i can also see lowe putting in a smaller quicker line-up w/ him and johnson tiring out other teams by pushing the ball very quickly. it wont happen at the beginning of the season, but maybe in the last half of the season.

thoughts anyone?

i know this is off topic, but i was looking at nbadraft.net's mock '09 draft and thought this was interesting:

7. Minnesota Chris Wright 6-1 190 PG St. G'Town Fr.

i thought his stock has dropped off over the past few months

Naturally.

Both Smith and Thomas will be playing behind at least two guys who have already proven themselves in ACC play. Javi, on the other hand, will be battling for minutes with a guy who has yet to play college ball either.

I expect to see both Degand and Javi in the mix a lot early in the year. Can't say who's going to come out on top (especially when Marques enters the lineup later).

Smith qualified a few months ago and they released an article on it. Smith signed and even Sid was talking about him in that presser. There has never been any rumor that he wouldnt qualify...although he did sign later than expected because of some confusion on his side of things.

The comment is probably a cheap shot, but whatever.

C.J. Leslie was mentioned in a few articles on the Rbk U camp.

http://rutgers.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=690021

Quote :
"NC State bound forward C.J. Leslie, a class of 2010 prospect, is about of intriguing as a prospect in the camp. He scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds, rather modest numbers on the surface, but he's showing a lot of promise. For starters, the Holly Springs, N.C. native is a long 6-foot-8. He runs the floor incredibly well, has a soft touch, can reportedly shoot it from the wing and is a long defender. By the time his skinny frame fills out, Leslie could be a very impressive player in the long term."

http://dimemag.com/2007/07/10/rbk-u-gameday-part-2/

Quote :
"C.J. Leslie, a 2010 N.C. State commit, showed why he is one of the top players in his class when given the opportunity. At 6-8, he handles and passes like a guard. He’s built like a pencil, but he’s going to be fun to watch in a few years"

Prosser is cleaning it up on the recruiting trail. He just got commitments this week from Al-Farouq Aminu (Rivals #3 overall), a 6'8" F from Norcross (GA) and Tony Woods (Rivals #18), a 6'11" F/C from Rome (GA), who are on the same summer team. He already got a commitment from Ty Warren (Rivals #10), the 7 footer from New Hanover. Wake probably has the best 2008 class in the country at this point.

How many ACCT and NCAAT games combined did they win when Paul was there in two years? One I think. The Wake suckage as been long going, and if not for Hurricane Hugo, they would have never landed Tim Duncan and the suckage would link back even further.

The more good recruits for the ACC the better. I welcome the fact Wake is getting some good recruits. Once Lowe goes head to head with him and he has a great class then Prosser will really be exploited for being a terrible coach. Lets see these guys go up against JJ and big Ben...if they are still around

Prosser has the #1 recruiting class in the country right now. UNC has missed on a lot of recruits this year, they aren't going to have the star-studded class they were thinking. We have clearly stepped up recruiting, and of course Duke is going to get theirs.

I'm excited about big 4 basketball in the next couple years, they are clearly seperating themselves from the rest of the ACC and, with the possible exception of GT, it could be a four team race.

Damn I hope we end up w/ Hamilton, Favors, and Johnson in 2009. I know it's an extreme longshot, but w/ those 3 and the other players we would have, plus CJ coming in the next year, we would probably be the favorites for the National Title if all 3 stick around and play w/ CJ.

Again, that is just a wild fantasy that will probably never come to fruition.

I would just like to see WF, Duke, and UNC fans talking about our recruiting classes as the best in the state instead of us always talking about theirs. I know we've come close in some classes, but to be the hands down #1 would be awesome.

**Just to start a discussion, what would it take to land these three in 2009? A conference title? Sweet Sixteen? Elite 8? I personally think that we need to have a great season to show the recruits Lowe is 100% legit and get them here. Once they realize he is legit and has 19 yrs NBA experience, we would have to be high interest schools for them.

^I think the fact that Prosser is still landing top-50 recruits says that you don't have to show any results whatsoever.

I remembered why he's still here, though. Signed a 10-year (!) extension after that one Sweet 16 in '03.

Well if he doesn't learn how to coach his way out of a box with a hole in the bottom, he'll get Odomed sooner or later.

Yeah, I think they just jumped in waaaay too deep with the 10-year deal and can't afford to fire him yet. A few more mediocre seasons and it'll be cheap enough to buy him out.

If they can successfully "Odom" him they won't need a buyout, he'll just leave for another job when he can't get an extension. WF is nonconfrontational like that.

I agree with you on going too long too soon on an extension with him, when he hadn't coached defense or won anything meaningful. Of course, they look pretty slick this year after giving Grobe the long-term deal before last season.

I hope we get UNC first this year. It seemed like every year, until this past one, that we'd always have to go to Chapel Hill first then get them in Raleigh. One thing I want to see this year is Big Ben McCauley posterizing Hansdouche in the RBC Center. Can you imagine how nuts the crowd would be after that? Have it show up as a Top 10 play of the day on ESPN.

i truly don't see Handsgump doing more than last season, which was less than he did as a frosh. What I mean is that he will get less effective with each year, because teams are now understanding his game (which is just "bruising") and able to adapt to it, as a true frosh he killed teams that way. Yea, he'll be all conference, because I don't see anyone really coming close to challenging him for the all conference spot at the 5, but his best days in college are in the past IMO. His ineffective stretch against G Town down the stretch was inexcusable if I were a tarhole fan. If he develops a 12-15 footer, then I'll admit, he would be difficult to game plan for, but if he continues to "will" his way into things, I think his numbers will drop yet again.

^^ the media (and thus the refs) already know he has to have a big year if UNC is to win the ACC and go as far as the media wants them to go.... He will be able to travel like crazy (not like thats new) and anyone touching him on the offensive end will be hit with a foul. The media darling will be primed and ready to be drafted 1st round by the Bobcats... you wait and see....

Gotta get those UNC WalMart merchandise sales on the up and up! oh and btw ~ I was in WalMart in Gboro a few weeks ago looking for a new NCSU hat. None. 20% Duke hats 10% Wake hats 10% VT hats 60% UNC. No state merchandise at all... Proves the WalMart fanbase theory to me....
