With three days between games, the Hurricanes sent flu-bug reinforcements Keith Aucoin, Tim Conboy and Brandon Nolan back to Albany (AHL) today, activating Glen Wesley from injured reserve as well, where they had stashed the sick defenseman to open up a roster spot.

Aucoin scored goals in each of the past two games, so it wouldn't be surprising if he re-joined the team in Toronto on Tuesday. But this saves the Canes some money and in theory the three should be available for Albany's game this afternoon.
"

ahahaha, for Nolan i think its been like: Boston on Tuesday, Albany on Wednesday, Raleigh on Thursday, Portland Friday, Raleigh Saturday, Albany Sunday

In my opinion Laviollete was one of the reasons we lost the game last night.
- Having Conboy on the ice for the last goal was a mistake, he is not a nhl level player and we could have just used five d for the last ten minutes for the third
- With the net empty, he had gleason and commodore (two defensive dmen) on the ice along with larose, while cole and aucoin (ftw) were on the bench until we got that power play
This, imo, along with being a shitty defensive team is why we lost

I went to the game last night. I haven't seen the RBC Center that full since the Carolina game in basketball last year. It reminded me of the playoffs. Great atmosphere and full. I wish every bball game could catch up to that...

Day 1 in Canada:

After eating some wings at the Anchor Bar and riding past the HSBC Center(which reaks of sulfur) we go ahead and cross the border. Staying at the Comfort Inn in Niagara Falls tonight. Won 45 bucks at the Fallsview Casino in about 10 mins of video slots and poker. It definitely seems like the best way to convert your currency is to just trade it in at the casino. They were swapping it 1 for 1 tonight with no fees.

We wore our Canes jerseys around tonight. One guy asked what the fuck our jersey was, another guy was giving us tips on where to go pre-game in Ottawa, and some kid that looked like a 12 year old Michael Jackson in a stretch hummer told us that 'Carolina Sucks'. Good night around town, sported the Stanley Cup ring, but nobody seemed to notice too much as the only people we saw in the casino were fucking Asians.

"In a sudden burst of good fortune, seven of the nine players who missed Saturday's game were on the ice for practice Monday -- all except Justin Williams (knee) and David Tanabe (concussion), who remain out indefinitely.

Of course, there was one new absence. Niclas Wallin won't travel with the team to Toronto this afternoon after coming down with the same flu that knocked four players out of Saturday's game.

But Wade Brookbank, Trevor Letowski, Glen Wesley and Ray Whitney were back at practice, if a bit lighter and short on energy.

"I believe they'll be in the lineup," Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette said. "But they are coming off a lot of days off and not much work."

Matt Cullen (concussion) and Scott Walker (knee) went through a full practice and could play on Thursday in Ottawa, if not Tuesday night, and Bret Hedican (knee) was back on the ice as well."

Meanwhile, Paul Maurice has discovered the joy of magic markers:

The moral boosting lead atop the NHL's worst division has evaporated, and the illusion of being a decent team is gone.

Toronto 5, Carolina 4
Colorado 3, Tampa Bay 0
Washington 4, Ottawa 2
Atlanta 5, Detroit 1

SOUTHEAST GP W L OT Pts
Atlanta Thrashers 47 23 22 2 48
Carolina Hurricanes 48 22 22 4 48
Florida Panthers 46 20 22 4 44
Washington Capitals 45 19 21 5 43
Tampa Bay Lightning 46 17 24 5 39

EASTERN CONFERENCE GP W L OT Pts
1 Ottawa Senators* 45 29 12 4 62
2 New Jersey Devils* 44 26 15 3 55
3 Atlanta Thrashers* 47 23 22 2 48
4 Pittsburgh Penguins 45 26 16 3 55
5 Montréal Canadiens 45 23 14 8 54
6 Philadelphia Flyers 43 23 15 5 51
7 New York Islanders 45 22 18 5 49
8 Boston Bruins 44 22 18 4 48
9 Carolina Hurricanes 48 22 22 4 48
10 New York Rangers 46 21 20 5 47
11 Florida Panthers 46 20 22 4 44
12 Buffalo Sabres 43 19 18 6 44
13 Washington Capitals 45 19 21 5 43
14 Toronto Maple Leafs 45 16 21 8 40
15 Tampa Bay Lightning 46 17 24 5 39

Southeast Division teams in italics for comic value.

It's also important to note that we have played more games than anyone else in the conference, so we will be watching more teams pass us.

What a bunch of horseshit. We found some drunk enough Canadians to buy us alcohol before the game, but we can't talk our way into pulling that off after the game with a performance like that.

I'll only lose faith if two weeks go by and JR does nothing. For now, I say we get in. But it will be either by winning the division, or we'll squeak into 8th.

this game pissed me off something fierce. leafs guy knocks the net off the moorings and nothing is done, shouldnt that be a penalty shot? refs missed an offsides that directly led to a goal. i think it was stillman that got tripped right before they scored their 4th or 5th goal, they grab the puck and push it right into the net. we had some nosebleed seats, buti thought we got robbed of at least a point.

the guys didnt give up tonight, so that made me happy, but this was the one we needed to win on this trip.

HHoF was awesome, and we found an awesome bar near the Rogers Centre called St. Louis ribs and bar or something. they get a lot of leafs and blue jays players there. had a great atmosphere, but beer is fucking expensive anywhere you go in this country(so far). 6 dollar pints are the norm. Molson Canadian is my new favorite beer now, it is much better off the tap than out of a bottle that has been sitting in a grocery store for 2 months.

next stop, LOCAL HEROES in Ottawa, choo-choo

So look out for us tomorrow on FSN. We have seats directly next to the Canes bench on the 2nd row. If I am right about the seats we will be sitting directly next to the backup goalie. If the Canes score we are going to pull out our 3' x 5' State of NC flag and celebrate. I'll be wearing my white away jersey from the stanley cup year, Sweden will either be wearing his red 82 shirt or the other away jersey we brought up.

Been a great trip so far, the dude bought us 4 rounds of Jack Daniels last night and told us about how bad Canada needs Toronto to win the cup, which I agree would be a great thing for hockey. Night before last we were chatting it up with the folks at Hoops' bar and grill, and they gave me a '93 Stanley Cup Champion Habs hat since we were so dedicated to our team. People can't believe we drove up, but we havent had too much hate thrown at us besides the one guy who e-braked his car in the middle of Yonge St. when he saw us. He rolled down his window and stuck a Montreal jacket out and yelled 'FUCK CAROLINA GO HABS WOOHOHOHOHO CAROLINA SUCKS, BRINDAMOURSUCKS!!!1'. People in TO wanted us to win so they could go ahead and get JFJ and Mo fired. Hopefully they have some more passion in Ottawa being that they are a good team and all.

We are going to try out the Irish district tonight and of course, LOCAL HEROES. Beer in Toronto is fucking ridiculous, 10 bucks for a sixer. In Gatineau, where we are staying tonight, they have a fetish for Dry beer i think. In the one convenience mart they had 4 versions of Labatt 'Bleue' DRY: 6.1, 7.1, 8.1, and 10.1%. Not only that, but you can get Old Milwaukee Zenith here. Don't know what that tastes like but it looks wonderful...

We will report in the morning, I dont know if anyone cares or not, haha but we are having a good time despite last night's shenanigans.

we are talking about coming up again next year for hopefully a TO, ottawa, montreal swing. It is refreshing being up here where hockey is #1, and everybody notices you wearing a canes jersey on the streets. definitely a worthwhile endeavor as long as you can stomach the cheapest pint you get being $6.50
