"Davies suffered a lacerated bladder and fractures to the tibia and femur bones in his right leg. He also suffered facial fractures and a left elbow fracture. Davies was air-lifted to the hospital where a team of doctors first repaired a ruptured bladder and then inserted titanium rods in both the tibia, the bone in the lower leg, and the femur, which is the thigh bone, with no complications. Davies will be hospitalized for at least a week and additional surgeries will be required to stabilize his left elbow fracture and possibly the facial fractures."

its good to know he's going to be ok and could eventually play within the year. i'm sure he will be rehabbing as fast as he can to play in the world cup, but i'm just really glad to hear he's alive and surgery went alright.

^Could he even be ready for the World Cup with bone breaks that bad though?

in the article it said 6-12 months, but maybe even sooner due to his level of fitness. I really doubt he'll be ready though, an accident that bad is hard to recover from and to get into world cup form would be even harder

Plus they have to get the rosters in like 2 months before the start of the World Cup. But they might be able to drop him due to injury if he isn't ready to play.

daaammmnnn. just saw the headline on cnn. hopefully he'll play in the cup, but i'm glad to hear he's alright. sounds like it was a pretty nasty accident.

I seriously doubt he'll be playing in the World Cup, but he's lucky to even have a chance at playing again after that.

Maybe BB should ask McBride to come back? Although Davies wasn't exactly world class... Casey/Altidore with Cooper on the bench will not do much in a World Cup. Dempsey starting as a true forward makes the most sense to me, I'll guess we'll have to see.

Before all the Davies shit went down, they announced a Denmark friendly at Denmark in November. Plus we already had a Holland friendly scheduled so we'll get at least a couple of more chances against good competition to experiment with some more forwards.

And we could always bring back Eddie Johnson.......

Damn. From the looks of the vehicle, Davies is very lucky to be alive. I don't think he has any chance to play in World Cup 2010. Maybe 2014. Maybe. He broke his femur and tibia, among other things. He'll be lucky to ever play at a high level again. It will take a long, long time to heal physically and mentally, build up fitness, find a team, find any kind of form, and especially to find the nerve to play as reckless and full throttle as he has been playing. Sucks. He was arguably one of the most promising young players on the roster.

That can't be done. England let Ronney on the 2006 team even though they didn't know how good he would be after he broke his foot. They would not have been allowed to drop him, if they felt he was not ready to go after they added him. On the other hand the USA replaced Corey Gibbs with Greg Berhalter after Gibbs tore up his knee in a friendly a week before they left for Germany in 2006. You have to hur yourself after you make the roster in order to be replaced and not before.

This sucks.

Hopefully he can play again and use this as motivation. I pretty much followed him as a relative unknown who played in Sweden to a national team starter.

This game was pretty much an after-thought to me after the Honduras game... but now, all I want to see is us go out there and beat that ass, and get a few stanky leg celebrations in to honor CD9

One thing is for sure though, even if that doesn't happen... I won't be on here criticizing like I always do. You can't fault these guys for having a few things on their minds other than a meaningless WCQ when we've already wrapped up qualification.

-----------Howard-------------
Dolo---Gooch--Boca---Bornstein
------Feilhaber--Bradley--------
Holden----------------Donovan
-------Altidore--Casey---------

Bench: Guzan, Conrad, Torres, Rogers, Cooper, Spector, Clark

Kind of surprised at all the starters... I figured Torres and Cooper would start. I also thought Hejduk would at least make the bench

^I'm not shocked since Casey had a good game.

Qualified From UEFA
Italy
Germany
Denmark
Switzerland
Slovakia
Spain
England
Serbia
Netherlands

UEFA Playoff Teams
Portugal
Greece
Slovenia
Russia
Bosnia-Herzegovina
Ukraine
France
Rep. of Ireland

If things happen the correct way then we could have a World Cup without France, or Argentina.

^ what is the "correct way"

France will be one of the seeded playoff teams and will more than likely, advance
As it stands now, Argentina will qualify without the playoff... even if things change and they have to go to the playoff, the "correct way" would think they'd win that too

yeah I didn't mean Cooper, I meant Spector, my bad

Red card for Uruguay... Argentina should see the game out now

and scored on the free kick from the red, that's it

good news for Honduras/Costa Rica that they won't have to face Argentina in the playoff

I know Davies was hurt in a wreck, but that isn't an excuse for the poor play of our back line.

Good thing we won the other night, or we would be heading to Uruguay.

Casey played like shit. I mean, the best play he made all game was when he got yanked by the neck in the box on the no call. He was slow and had awful touch.

On the other hand, Jozy was totally busting his ass out there tonight.

THANK YOU CONOR CASEY AND LANDON DONOVAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If those 2 hadn't stepped it up on Saturday and sealed the deal I would not be alive right now. I would have died of a heart attack when a 94+ minute game tying goal sent us to the World Cup on the last day of qualifying.

it's too bad. you could tell by the look on his face that he knew it was going to be a serious injury.

lol awesome headline... WE ARE IN WE ARE IN ... YES WE ARE IN

and LOL: El presidente de Honduras, Roberto Micheletti, anunció hoy que mañana habrá asueto nacional y agradeció a "los gringos" por haber facilitado "la visa para el Mundial"

Hahaha the youtube comments are pretty emotional.

Quote :
"Siempre lo he dicho Estados Unidos nunca se regala!! siempre sale a ganar eliminado o clasificado!! me la suben!! Gracias Gabachos!! Thanks Yankees!!"

I have always said that the United States never gives anything away! They always go out to win, eliminated or qualified. They brought me up [in spirit]. Thanks Yanks.

Quote :
"Gracias GRINGOOOOSSS!... Por ser tan profesionales y salir a ganar el partido. Nos hicieron un gran favor y el pueblo de Honduras se los agradece de Corazón."

Thanks Gringos! For being so professional and going out to win the game. They did us a great favor and the people of Honduras are grateful to you from the heart.

Too bad we couldn't get Mexico knocked out and Costa Rica in automatically.
