The Washington Post recently did a three part story about Gary Williams and Maryland's fall from national prominence since their NC, as well as William's recruiting misses and "philosophy". Anyways it's a very interesting read for a College hoops fan.

Pretty sure West Virginia just rushed the court for beating #13 Villanova. That's just as bad/worse than ASU rushing on UCLA. Thankfully the ESPN producer didn't show a wide view of it so they didn't get the view of it on TV.

^^how about ASU just broke an 8 game losing streak to UCLA, the premier team in their league. They dont have a rich basketball history and have every right to rush as this is the best they've been in years

[Edited on February 14, 2009 at 10:24 AM. Reason : 8 game losing streak BEFORE this year.. i know they swept UCLA this season]

it's funny that most dook players people hate are white.

Well you also have to factor in how they all look similar and have that same air of douchebaggery about them. I don't know why K can't just find a regular white guy that doesn't look and act like a douchebag on the court. He could learn a thing or two from Bo Ryan in terms of recruiting white guys.

I don't think it is possible to be white in the ACC and have opposing fans respect you.

Chris Wright drilled a 25 footer to tie it after 'Cuse missed some FTs and turned it over...

Wright was filthy today. 25 points, 7 assists and 5 boards (on 10-15 and 5-8 from 3).

** Actually, Cuse turned it over again and Summers front rimmed a 20 footer that would have won it at the buzzer..

He should have had his 2nd triple double in 4 games... they called a stupid goaltending early in the first half... He even hit two 15 ft jumpers.

Double post.

Do any of you guys remember the old Metro Conference? They mentioned something about it on the Cincy-Pitt game and it got me thinking...

That was a pretty nice basketball conference back in the day. All of the following were members at one point:

Georgia Tech
Memphis State (now Memphis)
Louisville
Cincinnati
South Carolina
Virginia Tech
Saint Louis
Charlotte
Florida State
Southern Miss

battier was one of the few who was a really good player but also had annoying white boy tendencies. therefore floppier the floor slapper is on my hated list

I'd put Battier to the right of the quadrant and right on the talent line so he's right in the middle of the douchenozzlery spectrum. Basically in between Laettner and Brand. He could do some things that made you hate him, like the flopping, but you had to respect how well he played the game. If the ref is going to call a charge on the opposing team for your flopping efforts then whatever. You should use that to your advantage. Taking what the refs give you in terms of calls is high basketball IQ.

lol...

-------------------

Leitao should have never left DePaul for that job... DePaul can be a good job if you can keep the Chicago kids home, which he was actually doing a good job at. He left after back to back NCAAT appearances...

Granted, he left before DePaul was invited to the Big East and the ACC was quite a step up from CUSA...

so you approve of the three pointer-while-scissor-kicking maneuver? the one that reggie miller made famous, and redick and now scheyer love to emulate? to me that's just dirty basketball

^^ I don't approve of it, but if you can do it and get away with it, then go for it. The old saying "win at all costs" does apply. If you make a million dollars with honest business tactics, or by using underhanded (note: not necessarily illegal) business tactics then it doesn't really matter, you've made a million dollars. That does bring up a good point though. I've heard that former Duke players say that the first thing K teaches you on the first day of practice is how to take and look for a charge. Lowe recently said that he doesn't ever teach players how to look for charges and that when his players get charge calls it's b/c they were playing good defense and in good position.

You can say that Hansbrough has a high basketball IQ. He knows just the right times when to flop. I mean his brother who is a guard has fouled out more times than him. That shows that he doesn't commit stupid fouls and knows when to flop (or it could mean that the refs just favor him ).
