First time i had seen the team play since the coaching change. PP seems to be much improved. Seemed to have a little bit of trouble when Montreal extended their box.
The big thing i took away from it was the D style in the last 15-10 minutes. That tight grouping down low is going to end up with a lot of late goals against. They are begging teams to take shots from the point, and seem to be leaving the back side winger pretty open as well.
Other then the mental breakdown on the shorthanded goal, they looked pretty solid tonight. 12/17/2008 12:02:15 PM |

I can't argue with the results, going 3-11, but it wasn't exactly a thing of beauty. The first goal came on the 3rd PP of the night, and it developed awfully slow. What really bugged me was that in the first period, we had nearly 10 minutes of power play time, and only 4 shots on goal in that stretch. The passing was slow and telegraphed, and it didnt really get any better as the game went on.12/17/2008 1:17:26 PM |
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
The main problem with the power play is that the passing is slow and gives the point defenders and goaltender too much time to get in the lanes and set.
I know they're working hard to correct it, though, consummate professionals that they are.

Paul Maurice is a very good joke teller in press conferences.
Jason Spezza being left open in the slot is not a beneficial course of action for teams other than the Ottawa Senators.

To be honest I completely forgot about the existence of the Fire Antz. I think the last time I heard them mentioned was during the lockout. 12/17/2008 3:24:10 PM |

By saying it was improved, i meant they seemed to have a plan. Many times they carried the puck over the line rather then dumping it. They also got good movement. If they had an Al MacInnis shot on the team, it would have great potential.
The passing is predictable and slow, but i think i've given up hope on anything other then that. This team as a whole can't pass worth crap.

I think they need to look more down low on the PP. It has seemed to be getting a bit better from last night, but we got into the routine of all the passes from the half boards always going to the point. Teams are pushing their diamond out so much to take away that pass that its leaving 2 on 1s down low. 12/17/2008 4:20:34 PM |

Quote : | "Sources tell TSN another NHL player may be about to jump to the KHL.
Carolina Hurricanes forward Dan LaCouture is believed to have left the team for Russia, however, the Hurricanes remain unclear as to which Kontinental Hockey League team LaCouture is attempting to join.
The Hurricanes intend on suspending LaCouture, who was signed as a free agent in October, if he doesn't have an immediate change of heart.
If LaCouture walks away from his contract with the Hurricanes this will fuel the ongoing feud between the KHL and the National Hockey League as, once again, the Kontinental Hockey League would have apparently abandoned its policy of respecting NHL contracts.
The 31-year old veteran has played in 11 games this season with the Hurricanes and has scored two goals." |

We gave him a tryout, he worked his way on to the team, and we said, "Awesome. Add some size to the fourth line, bang bodies, go to the net with some combination of Sutter/Bayda/LaRose, and occasionally stand up for one of our smaller guys and you'll have a spot on this team."
And then we put him on the bus after a month. ] 12/18/2008 11:39:20 AM |
