^The beautiful thing is we'll have more depth at almost every position, QB just being the most exciting place to have depth.

Words

Okay, I just watched the first half. I missed it live because of work. There are a lot of things that can be said. I was bummed after the loss but I am now officially OVER IT.

RW is just fantastic. I think we can all agree that if he doesn't get hurt we win this one walking away. Rutgers made some good offensive adjustments but I still don't think they would have contained our offense with RW at the helm. But, grats Rutgers.

We have everyone of importance back next year, minus Brown. But we have Eugene, Underwood, and Barnes to step up at RB.

Our receivers looked great in the first half. Well, at least Williams did. I swear, if Spencer could hold on to a catch he would be an extremely dominant and dangerous receiver because he always finds a way to get seperation.

Our offensive lined improved throughout the year and it will be even better next year, especially with the guys we have coming in from our last recruiting class.

The defense played well overall today. That was an extremely hot offense coming in and our defense cooled them down for the most part. Although I realized it got a little out of hand in the 2nd half we still held them well below what they had been averaging.

In short, we will be good next year, barring injury. We will not be just okay, we will be good. I think we have as good a shot as anyone in the ACC next year.

good summary. yea i didnt talk to anyone really for 2 hours after the game, turned my phone off and all. but spencer can be deadly if he catches 50 percent of those drops....but you cant rag the guy too much, hes our best receiver, and is always open. Reminds me of Clifford Franklin from the Replacements.

And Russell Wilson is just the damn man, holy hell

^what?!? you cant compare the two.

I just looked at the comments section about our game on ESPN.com...man talk about some trash-talking Rutgers fans, haha.

And apparently Rutgers has now taken out 8 starting QBs in games this year...that is insane, haha.

Haha wut saying we finished last in our division is such a joke. Don't mention the fact that we were 1 game out of first.....we don't have Duke to pad our division wins.

2008 NCSU record versus mighty Coastal Division: 3-0.

^^ I was just coming in here to make that point. Glad you beat me to it.

Yep wut, that's a pretty tough division yall play in. I'd hate to have to go up against those guys. I'm not sure I could handle State doling out anymore 41-10 beat downs to Carolina or anyone else. We might actually live up to the expectations that Carolina was crushed under if we were to play in your division.

^^^^^^Just went back and did some rethinking and I've come to the same conclusion.

Andre Brown--Hate to lose him but we have depth in that position.
J.C. Neal--It'd be nice to keep him for experience but overall, a resounding "meh".
Robbie Leonard--He played well for us but we've got manning, lucas, maddox all waiting at LB.
Meares Greene--Anyone we lose from the O-Line doesnt concern me, we'll be fine there.
John Bedics
Anthony Hill--Great player and his blocking will be missed. Injury prone.
Keith Willis Jr--DLine depth
Antoine Holmes--DLine depth

In short, we have a lot of starters returning and a lot of talented freshmen will be competing for playing time next year as well. We will be an improved team overall.

Uh, its not a joke. Its the painful truth. Dont make the mistake of trying to pad your pride with the "1 game out of first" bullshit. 4 of the 6 teams finshed 4-4 in your division. Unfortunately for you they had better teams that performed better over the course of the season, pushing you to the bottom.

I knew the game was over when Beck went in the game.

It sucks to get the L, but I'm not as disappointed in it then I thought I would be. There's a lot of good things to focus on:

We improved our record from last season to become bowl eligible.
We have a great quarterback that is head and shoulders above any of the quarterback talent we've had for the last four years. We hopefully have a capable backup in Glennon that won't regress to any of those quarterbacks of yore.
We got valuable practice time (What I felt was the most important) to continue developing players and helping them learn the system.
We win if Wilson plays the whole game. Even though we lost, I'm confident that recruits would understand how Wilson affects the offense and would see the positives over the fact that we lost.
Didn't lose too many seniors, and we have a good freshman class.
We have a good defense when everyone is healthy. You may hate his cover 2 schemes, but I was impressed with how the defense played towards the end of the season. Just imagine what our defense would be like if Gray wasn't a friggin starter, and we have improved play by the other corners.

I personally hoped that Wilson would come in on the last play of the game and lead us to victory. It was agonizing seeing him on that sideline like he could come in at any time, only to see someone else go in. That said, you have to give a lot of credit to TOB. You know he genuinely cares about his players when he recognizes that Wilson has baseball season coming up and will have a career in that sport and wouldn't risk his future for the sake of a low tier bowl game. It's good to have a coach that understands that players have lives outside of football. We as the fan might not like it, but having a player's best interest in mind will only greatly help in recruiting in the future.

Spot on.

Im confused why Beck would ever be in the game anyway... but oh well.

The only thing you can really do is turn this in to a learning opportunity for the younger players and build off of it for next year.

We all knew it was over as soon as we heard Wilson wouldn't be in for the second half. We all knew our backup QBs would at best go 3 and out and on average toss an int. Don't know why I just didn't turn the game off at the half.

Plus the defense. What was that? As soon as they put our inept QBs in the defense decided to quit as well.

Oh well. Here's to hoping we can have a football program that isn't dependent on the awesomeness one guy sometime in the near/distant future.

I don't know if I 100% agree with you on that. I can't say Spencer is our best WR, even though he DEFINITELY does seem to get open a HELLUVA lot. I think Jarvis Williams seems to make more plays than Spencer. I haven't seen J-Will drop as many (catchable) passes as Owen. Just my observation. Not to mention, Jarvis is slightly taller (I think) and more solid than Owen at the position.

Anthony Hill...not sure I'm gonna miss him. Doesn't do much and I can remember when there were PLENTY of occasions he just stood there missing blocks (like he was lost) and passes as well. And he didn't even make a play til' the 2nd half of the game like in MOST of our games this season. And can't say he's injury prone. He was out for a minute til' this season. And where the hell was Keith Willis?? He wasn't even dressed out for the game.

Also, noticed that DeAndre Morgan didn't do much yesterday nor did he get much playing time it seemed. Any thoughts?!?!?

^I thought you were a relatively knowledgeable girl in terms of football until that post.

There's a reason Owen Spencer has 200+ more yards than Jarvis Williams. OS gets open almost every play. Williams got a lot better during the season and may be more dependable on getting the catch, but he's not going to get the ball if he doesn't get open like OS.

We're going to miss Anthony Hill's blocking. He's not irreplaceable, but he's a good blocker. Maybe I'm having selective memory of this year, but I can't think of many passes he's missed. He's come up with pretty impressive third down conversions throughout the year (UNC game sticks out) and has done a good job of getting wide open (FSU, yesterday).

Willis violated team rules and didn't dress out.

Perhaps it had something to do with the defense CONSTANTLY being on the field since the offense consistently went three and out. Things like that tend to wear out the players.

^^^yea...Spencer has 260 more yards than Williams on the season, averages almost 6 more yards a catch than Williams, and averages 20 more yards a game than Williams

the Wilson-Spencer connection was/is undoubtedly our big play threat in terms of passing

while the majority of people have focused on our QB situation yesterday as the reason for our loss, our lack of a running game didn't help either. If Brown or Eugene could've established a solid run game, then we wouldn't have had to rely 100 percent on Beck/Evans to lead us to a miracle

Except they were terrible starting with the first series coming off the half. I guess they were tired after the halftime break because of all the time they were on the field during the first half. Besides, with all the time our defense has been on the field all year you'd think their endurance would be greater than 15 minutes of football.

Our defense lost a lot of morale when they had the pick and put us in the red zone, and fucking Beck comes in and tosses one to Rutgers. After that, the D didn't play with much heart, and yeah they were tired as fuck, and that combination is lethal.

^My thoughts exactly. If we score there, even if it's just a field goal, defense is fired up and plays on adrenaline. I mean damn, come up huge and get a turnover in Rutgers territory just to have Beck give it right back to them on the second play from scrimmage? Hell I was demoralized, I can't imagine being one of the players.

Maybe it's been mentioned, but Russell handled all the questions in the post-game press conference beautifully and with maturity. He admitted dissapointment at the loss but remained positive and just did a gread job. Kid is a class frickin' act and a fine representative of NC State University. Can't say enough about him. the only thing that pisses me off about our performance is Rutgers fans leaving their feeling like they beat us straight up. Because, that, to me, is sad. I don't care how much their offense picked up in the 2nd half. Us, with Russel Wilson, puts up more than 6 pts in the 2nd half. We hold the ball longer, don't have as many turnovers, etc.

FUCK, thats the only thing that pisses me off

Oh, PS: Talking shit to Rutgers' band was fun before the game while they were lining up. I asked them how many they brought and they were like "The whole 200" and i started laughing

I had fun at the game and in Birmingham despite the outcome.

The city was nice and the people there were great.

Lots of Rutgers fans were nice and friendly, and they understood it was a different game once Wilson went out. A lot of them said they were glad (not that he was hurt, but that he wasn't playing) because it gave them a chance.

I just got back from Birmingham. While eating breakfast in my hotel this morning I overheard some Rutgers fans talking about the game. They all said that with Wilson they would have lost, and were happy to come away with a win. Most of the Rutgers fans I met were nice. During halftime I went to the concourse to get some more beer and while waiting in line I convinced an Auburn fan to start pulling for us even though he had put money on Rutgers. I came back to my seat and this guy in front of us said that he heard that Wilson had gotten injured before the end of the first half. I went from being full of joy that my team was well in control of the game, and that I could buy beer at a college game, to thinking, "oh why God do you do such things to us? What have we done to deserve this?" I knew the game was lost, but I kept pumping up the State fans around me and held out hope that Daniel Evans would channel the Evans we saw in the 2006 BC and FSU, and 2007 UVA games.

We had a good showing and we even got the WOLF...PACK chant going between the two sides of the stadium a ton of times. Legion Field while old isn't that bad. It was pretty easy to get around and the area with the Bear Bryant memorial is cool. I was sitting in the 66th row and could see the field and players very well. I also had a nice view of Birmingham's skyline, which you couldn't if they had not torn down the old upper deck. I wouldn't be surprised if the people that designed Legion Field were the same ones that designed Bryant-Denny Stadium and Jordan-Hare Stadium. They look pretty similar and have a lot of the same architecture. Being able to drink beer while watching the Pack play live FTW! I wish the ACC would get rid of the rule that doesn't allow you to sell beer in the stands. The area around the stadium was ghetto and we had people actively trying to get us to park on their lawns and in their businesses for $5. Also we had people coming up to us trying to get us to donate money to them, but we barely had any money on us. I mean we wouldn't have given them any money anyways, but we had to conserve our money for beer in the stands.

Saw a bad wreck about 11:30-12PM right in front of the stadium....
A white nissan 350Z was pulling out of the convenience store and the traffic had stopped to let them out... people in traffic motioned for them to pull out and they pulled out right in front of a silver truck. the silver truck hit the front of the 350z and tore the front bumper off.

hope it wasn't anyone on here or any fans going to the game...that would have been a bummer!

not the greatest seats but it was nice to be right in front of the tunnel that state came out of. I was one of the first to see RW come out early before halftime.

I agree with the qb situation hurting us. If you give Teel enough chances, he's going to make you pay, and eventually he did once our defense was gassed.

had a good time overall but damn that's a long drive.

also did anyone get stuck on 20 between Atlanta and Columbia? turns out there was a family that wrecked and they had to airlift the mother out because she was going into labor. Crazy shit, we were like a hundred yards from it.

^^ If we had more output from Brown/Eugene then Russell would not have had to put the offense on his shoulders and run for 1st downs. Then theres a good chance he may not have gotten hurt. And if we had a healthy RW for the entire game, theres no doubt the pack gets the win.

I was surprised that Evans was able to even get the one TD. Going for 2 was crazy. Maybe TOB realized that that was as close the endzone as we were going to get for the rest of the game.
