I think that societies that encourage infanticide and/or abortion of girls is dangerous as it creates generational imbalance and fosters hordes of sexually charged males who are more apt to commit violence against each other and the few girls that remain. But far be it for me, as a liberal, to petition the government to step in and chaperone women's doctors visits to appease their self-appointed moral authority.

^ I usually tend to look towards studies and case studies that look at this rather than thinking that allowing abortions will lead males to act like dogs. I guess you are saying "encouraging"...which is obscure...you mean the government encourages it? The media?

http://theweek.com/article/index/228701/is-the-gop-warming-up-to-obamacare

Quote :
"Prominent Republicans in the Senate and the House, in a surprising development, are touting elements of ObamaCare, the sweeping overhaul of the health-care system that the GOP has promised to overturn in its entirety. Rep. Allen West (Fla.), a Tea Party favorite, says he supports several key provisions of ObamaCare, including one that allows kids to stay on their parents' policies until they're 26, and another that bars insurance companies from denying coverage to those with pre-existing conditions. Sen. Roy Blunt (Mo.) says he also is a fan of the provision for 26-year-olds.

Meanwhile, House Speaker John Boehner (Ohio) is "quietly hatching a plan" to restore parts of ObamaCare if the Supreme Court strikes it down in June, says Politico. Is the GOP changing its mind about ObamaCare?"

Never mind revisions like the Torah, the Canon of Trent, Luther's Canon, the books of the Bible that supposedly weren't good enough to be included, etc as well as various translations that have resulted in the complete distortions of original means.... Yep, that Bible sure is rock solid.

Joe the Dumbass should have pointed out that the Bible he was looking as was the King James Revision/Edition.....

Washington, DC still can't seem to get budget autonomy. Again... attempts to further separate the funding for the city from that of the federal government is blocked by the GOP trying to work unrelated issues (gun control, abortion, etc...) into the bill.

Jon Stewart and Marco Rubio actually had a lengthy discussion about this very issue last night. Towards the end of this 60 second clip. http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-june-25-2012/6-25-12-in--60-seconds?xrs=share_copy

Rubio sounded much more coherent when he was talking about it though because Stewart didn't really press him on what amendments he is proposing. I really wish he had.

Quote :
"At the Republican State Committee meeting, [Pennsylvania Republican House Leader] Turzai took the stage and let slip the truth about why Republicans are so insistent on voter identification efforts...

'We are focused on making sure that we meet our obligations that we’ve talked about for years,'...

'Pro-Second Amendment? The Castle Doctrine, it’s done. First pro-life legislation – abortion facility regulations – in 22 years, done. Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done.'"

When I first saw the quote out of context, I assumed that it had been made by a pissed off Democrat.

I don't quite understand your question.

Voters without adequate photo identification aren't necessarily Mitt Romney's key demographic.

"Ultimately, what is at stake in this matter is larger even than the reputation of one person. This is about who we are as a nation, and who we aspire to be. What makes America exceptional among the countries of the world is that we are bound together as citizens not by blood or class, not by sect or ethnicity, but by a set of enduring, universal, and equal rights that are the foundation of our constitution, our laws, our citizenry, and our identity. When anyone, not least a member of Congress, launches specious and degrading attacks against fellow Americans on the basis of nothing more than fear of who they are and ignorance of what they stand for, it defames the spirit of our nation, and we all grow poorer because of it."

McCain was always good about shutting down people at his rallies who would try to attack Obama on the basis that he was a muslim or not American.

It's very commendable of him.

"Meyer is running as a Republican and Conservative candidate, against Democrat Kevin Parker, a politician with his own colorful profile.

When I asked Meyer what made her a Republican and a Conservative, she at first had a hard time answering. She said she wanted to run against Parker, so she went to the Republicans and they endorsed her. The Conservative Party, she said, was more difficult.

"They started asking me a lot about the issues and I told them I was in the middle of law school finals and I'm like honestly, I can't tell you a lot about the issues right now, but what I can tell you is that if you put me up as your candidate I'm going to take the election till the end," she said.

Meyer also said she would have voted against same-sex-marriage legislation.

"I feel like people can do whatever they want," she said. "I just don't necessarily feel like it should necessarily result in marriage ... It's not something I support, you know? But I'm not against--people can be with whoever they want. Just in terms of marriage, I just feel that, you know, um, I guess you can say I'm against it."

I asked her about Andrew Cuomo, who has in many ways been a friend to the Republican majority in the State Senate.

She seemed unsure, at one point telling me, "Honestly, I'm not really familiar with him."

I said he was the governor. Meyer later said, "I'm not familiar with him in particular, his issues and, you know, and everything about him. You're asking me how I would work with him?"

Yes, I said.

"Yeah, so, I guess I would have to see if I was elected," she said.

http://dailyitem.com/0100_news/x1236705453/AG-Theres-no-evidence-of-voter-fraud

(GOP controlled) Pennsylvania just passed some voter ID laws a short while ago, and a study showed some 750,000 registered voters would be disqualified, some 9% of the total, and about 1/4 of voting-age citizens are more than 10 miles away from the nearest ID center.

The ACLU rightfully called them out on it, and here's the real kicker:

Quote :
"Senior Deputy Attorney General Patrick S. Cawley stipulated Tuesday that “there have been no investigations or prosecutions of in-person voter fraud in Pennsylvania, and the parties do not have direct personal knowledge of any such investigations or prosecutions in other states.”"

"We have no evidence of voter fraud, none, zilch, not a single case, but we passed a law to stop it anyway. Sorry about those 3/4 million who might not be able to vote now."

How do these jokers stay in office? Do all of their supporters actually believe they're fighting the good fight, or are all Republicans really this slimy and disingenuous?

I would love for their to be a voter ID law, and I'm pretty fucking far from being a Republican. I think it should be pretty broad and inclusive as to what constitutes an ID, but proving who you are is not asking too much in order to exercise franchise. I would have no problem accepting any state issued ID or say... 2 things from a list of about 70 (think credit/bank card and a power bill or phone bill, or SS card, or etc. etc.). I'm also in favor of making state issued photo IDs free and paying for it by increasing the cost of obtaining a drivers license significantly.

Problematically, there will be no consistency in these laws from state to state even for federal elections because each state sets up their own stupid voting laws and has their own uniquely retarded ballot/voting machine. If we had federally funded and federally run federal elections this might be less of an issue.

^ I agree, but it's painfully obvious that the motivation is to try and disenfranchise voters here.

Why go through so much effort, time, trouble, and resources to push for a law that doesn't appear to solve any actual problems? It's just like the welfare/drug-testing laws in Fl, they wasted money just so conservative politicians can let their constituents know they hate poor people.

Aren't conservatives always saying gov. is too large, they should trust people, etc.?

"Tampa Bay strip clubs prepare for Republican Convention with Sarah Palin stripper, online chat rooms

Family values by day, topless dancers at night?
With high-rolling Republicans flooding into Tampa Bay, Fla., this August for the party’s convention, local strip club owners hope many of them spill into their champagne rooms.
The Tampa Bay area boasts more than 40 clubs. Some expect their business to more than quadruple during the massive, four-day Republican National Convention, WFLA-TV reported.
To get a leg up on the competition, some are adding special attractions to help entice GOP bigs.
So while top Republicans work the conventioneers during the day, a Sarah Palin doppelganger will be working the same crowd at night. A strip club called Thee DollHouse, which got a $1 million facelift in advance of the big event, has hired a look-alike - sporting glasses and her trademark updo – to entertain hard-working Republicans after-hours.
Tampa Bay was the setting for the Channing Tatum strip flick, “Magic Mike,” but no word on whether a “Magic Mitt” will be entertaining Republican ladies at any of the male clubs."
