Both sides have had ample opportunity to shoot each other.

I think the point is that the American Dream as it existed, that lowly workers can make a medium high wage and own a home and retire, is over. The geographical and technological boundaries to commoditized labor are gone. The only two options now for the bottom to have a good life are to be self relient, or be remarkable.

i mean yeh. why dont they go occupy universal studios.

lots of vendors for food. go ride some rides when bored... same principle though. you are blocking business by occupying it.

same difference. 6 million in profit a day. or a measly $600.

some person or family established it and worked to create an idea that makes them money and helps them survive. thanks for trampling on it OWS and trying to keep the "FUCK DA POLICE" rage alive and well in Ameruciah

we need to start getting names of the OWS'ers and personally send groups to occupy their families houses in the name of the first amendment.

stand around their car and shit and make it impossible for them to get in it. lol. watch the violence curb upwards quickly lol.

since they can legally trample other private properties.

Brookfield Properties, the owner of the park, expressed concern:

"Zuccotti Park is intended for the use and enjoyment of the general public for passive recreation. We are extremely concerned with the conditions that have been created by those currently occupying the park and are actively working with the City of New York to address these conditions and restore the park to its intended purpose."

Good point. Screw the constitution:

i mean it's obvious why the protestors demand the property for their own personal use.

observations:
person x had to work to acquire currency
person x purchased property with money
person x wants compensation and control of property
group y wants access to person x's property
group y demands currency for little or no work done

conclusion:
group y seizes control of person x's private property as their own since currency is now assumed as universal and is no longer obtained by work. therefore the property should not be obtained by work and its use must also be universal

The best part of these protesters is that if they got some of what they wanted itd mean thousands of people like me would be out of a job and competing for the jobs they want -- big difference is my qualifications, expertise and work ethic would blow them out of the water..

^^ exactly. we would show up in a fucking suit with a nasa pin on our tie just to make sure i could land a job as a cashier to pay the rent in the event of an emergency

these assholes would loot and raid and pillage until the world was out of products they could leech from

^ um we went to an engineering college. that pretty much puts us in the 1-5% as far as this place goes. not in china. but definitely in the united sturtz of emuricah.

I'd love to hear your version of history and the factors that led to us leaving the gold standard.

The problem wasn't that the gold standard didn't work. The problem was that the dollar was pegged to gold and the United States, under LBJ, didn't want to have to be fiscally responsible. We wanted people to take our dollars in exchange for the full faith and credit of the United States.

Now, we have a global, debt-based house of cards, all courtesy of the Fed and the U.S. government.

Members of the so-called "Occupy Raleigh" movement on Tuesday turned down an offer to set up a base in a downtown parking lot, saying it didn't meet their needs.

I never said we were but none of those people out at OWS are going to be pimping for jobs that elite or irreplaceable people will be either. They'll be going for the run of the mill jobs that those with experience in big business will also be going for.

I'd wager that the thousands laid off from whatever changes to banking is the end goal of these protests have far superior resumes and work ethics than Joe Schmoe living in a sleeping bag in a park in NYC instead of looking for work.

Weren't you unemployed for a very long time?

And what makes you think they want bankers to get laid off? I think you seriously are misrepresenting the goals.

Quote :
"I'm starting to get frustrated now. Been unemployed for four months now after moving from California and working a contract job for my old company. I'm doing the typical networking, working with a placement agency, etc but have only had a few good leads and one solid lead that ended up putting a hiring freeze on right before I was set for my fourth interview.

I'm a MBA'er with a solid five year work history before that, though not necessarily in the field I want to have a long-term career in. I am willing to be a bit flexible as long as I can get employment commiserate with my skills and experience/education.

Does anyone have a solid placement agency/headhunter to recommend. For what it's worth I'd LIKE to work in the finance field but as I said, I'd be willing to be a bit more flexible as long as it isn't a sales job."

Quote :
"Well, I am having some movement finally. Have a few new interviews this week and next and it seems everyone I know has tired of my bitching about the job situation every time I go out so I have people pouring in leads to me left and right, which is really nice.

Hopefully I'll have some good news within a few weeks!"

Gonna be my parks in a few millennia

Also I don't think engineers are that much better off than anybody else right now. A little, but not overwhelmingly.

And he's also assuming that everyone down there hasn't/isn't.

He also seems to think that they want bankers to get laid off by the thousands, which isn't even close to true.

But now that he's got his, fuck everyone else, am I right?

I do have a work ethic. Ask Stringer, Joe. Or that kid, biddy, bonie, or something. I personally don't have to worry, as I am a legitimate business man.

And I'm not talking shit. I just quoted what he said in another thread. If he wants to correct me, he can. I'm just pointing out the irony in him calling people pieces of shit worthless unemployed hippies when he was in that exact same position for 4 months.

Everyone I know that's a part of the Occupy DC protests goes to work. They sleep down in Freedom Plaza or McPherson Square to show support, get up and go to work, go home to handle whatever business they have there, and then go back to Freedom Plaza or the square to sleep. Obviously this doesn't include everyone that participates in the protests.
I really don't see how anyone could be simply enough to paint everyone with the broad brush of "lazy hippy". Though, I certainly do understand the reason behind painting everyone in that light. That reason is an extremely poor one.

yeh good thing those hard workers are down there sleeping. i mean i know what i do at home in the evenings is paramount to the growth of my career. you can never learn enough. you would hope these guys would be reading books and learning how to play the markets, or learning a skill like a foreign language (chinese and spanish are pulling in around $100 an hour these days)

but yeh. if they feel that is the best thing to do with their time until the bank vaults magically open up or the constitution instantaneously rewrites itself without the approval of all 3 branches of federal government then so be it. more power to them. but while they are out 'camping' the students of china and the brilliant minds of the world are not resting. the contributors to society grow larger and smarter by the day and work relentlessly until all knowledge in the universe is uncovered.

but if you after all this still feel like 'blocking' out a piece of territory and shouting over megaphones downtown in most cities is a wise use of your time then i can't convince you otherwise. enjoy your journey.

I'm...just going to assume that wall of text is another sweeping generalization. Pass.

I do find it ironic that some of you manage to find so much time during the day (presumably when you should be working) to complain about how lazy these protesters are for not working.

indeed my 1 vote i cast soon will overshadow any amount of protesting you have done or ever will do. in fact this movement is having the opposite effect. it's making everybody annoyed b/c it's the embodiment of the user pryderi in full 3d!
