Re pregnancy scares: I'll add that unlike other times before when I had pregnancy scares, when I was a few weeeks pregnant I felt like I had the worst flu ever. I know all pregnancies are different, but I had never felt like that before. Chills, fever, soooo tired, congested, just miserable. A friend of mine described feeling very similar, and from what I've read it is your body reacting to the foreign object in order to not reject it. It was that and being just a few days late that got me to take a test.

And speaking of tests...mine changed immediately. There was no waiting 2-5 minutes or whatever it is.

same here. i even tested a few data before my period was due because we were trying. it was faint but it was bam.right away.

I've also taken a pregnancy test and gotten my period the next day. like my body was intentionally toying with me.

No scares. I'm happy if it's late because that means more time between the pain, but it's been irregular up until the last couple years. Anywhere between 2 week to 10 month cycles.

The thermacare hot pads are pretty decent for the days when I have to leave the house. I just have to find a pair of loose pants to fit them in.

when I was in 9th grade my doctor put my on the depo shot to try to control my HORRIBLE periods (like, curled up in the fetal position on the floor of the nasty bathrooms at my high school because the cramps were so bad). I was on that for a couple years until all those reports of strokes and whatnot started coming out. then she had me on the patch, and took me off a year or so later for the same reasons. then I was on the ring for years, which I loved, but I stopped that this fall for a few reasons (bf had vasectomy, cost went up, etc), which I'm assuming has contributed to my weird cycle.

I was seriously shaking last night when I took the test*. my roommate went into the bathroom after to take hers (and read mine) and she was in there for awhile (I think doing laundry or something). I was out in the kitchen convincing myself that she was in there trying to figure out how to tell me that mine was positive. she came out like 'WUT.'

anyway, we spent the rest of the night congratulating ourselves on not being pregnant. we would have toasted to it but both of us are doing that whole 30 thing, so we made grilled chicken instead



*the last time I had sex was in january, with vasectomy guy (who pulled out), and I've had a period since. there was almost virtually no chance I was pregnant, but my mind gets off on self-fucking [mind fucking].

Do all you people with bad and/or irregular periods go to an obgyn? Most problems can be fixed. I had the worst periods, and could bleed for weeks at a time and then not bleed for months. My first visit to the gyn fixed most of the problems. I still get bad cramps the day I start and then it is a little rough the other days, tired, mild cramping and mood swings.

Also, I had an IUD for five years and it rocked. Mild spotting about twice a year, no cramping, mild mood swings probably every other month. Only reason I dont have it now is because of some research that has been done regarding IUDs and people with PCOS.

My period is irregular because I was on birth control for 10+ years, then came off of it recently to try and have kids. There's nothing an OBGYN is going to be able to do to fix that, short of putting me back on bc, which kind of defeats the purpose of coming off of it.

Tried all sorts of pills, surgery to look for a problem, diva cup in case I was allergic to something in the pads, etc. Stopped short of the temporary menopause drugs and decided pain pills were the best option. And I've been to multiple gyns, none of them had any better ideas.

I go to my ob-gyn very regularly (she is also my PCP, and I take full advantage of my health insurance and see her quite a bit) - for annual paps and STD screening (sometimes 2x a year, again, whether I "need" to or not). I've been seeing her since I was probably 7 so she knows me pretty well, and doesn't seem concerned about my irregular periods (I was there in late Jan for my pap/STD screening/full physical and mentioned them then). I just assumed she attributed it to coming off the BC this fall.

I don't get bad cramping anymore, maybe I grew out of it? and my periods aren't anything to write home about, although they are longer and heavier than when I was on the ring.

I am very curious about the IUD but definitely need to do more research on it. I used to have pretty bad ovarian cysts, and I seem to remember them saying they were outside the ovaries, but can't remember if I had a PCOS diagnosis. I suppose that would be on record though.

I was on birth control for 7 years and came out of it in August of last year. We too are trying to have a baby. My period has been coming later and later ever since I got off BC. My last period started on 2/6 and as of today, I have not started my period again.

I don't know what to do. It sucks. I used to be able to get my period like clockwork on BC. Now I don't know when I'll get it. I took a pregnancy test last week (when I was like ~5 days late) and it said not pregnant. Now I had a friend that took a pregnancy test when she was a few days late and it said not pregnant. So she waited another week and still didnt have her period so she tested again and found out that she was pregnant.


Oh and yeah, I've been having some high school acne too. Huge fucking zits. BABIES BETTER BE WORTH GETTING ZITS

since getting pregnant my acne has been INSANE. it's the deep cystic kind, and it's all over my jaw line, shoulders, & upper chest/back.

That's crazy. But it's not a big deal. If you were in greensboro, I would send you to my OBGYN. She's amazing, and we meet in her office for any questions, comments, concerns, etc., before any type of exam. It's definitely more comforting than addressing things without my clothes on.

I was on bc for 7 years and tried Ortho, ortho tri, Yasmin, yaz, and Mircette...they all turned me in to a crazy person. Since stopping 5 years ago, I have had normal periods and what I would call normal mood swings associated with PMS. BC isn't for everyone. Certainly was not for me. The only thing I could think of is bc I'm already on thyroid hormone, no BC I try is going to be a good fit.

man i am lucky - i never i had problems with my period or with birth control (well minus the generic one that caused my cortisol levels to be high). my period lasts 3 days with minimal bleeding, no cramps or weird mood swings.

my obgyn/PCP and I sit around and chat sometimes. she has told me so many horror stories about what she's seen down there, mostly involving stories about women neglecting to go see their obgyn - including the staggering statistic that 99% (I could be misquoting) of cervical cancer deaths could have been prevented with regular paps.

a woman came in to see my doctor b/c she had been having "pain down there" for a year or so. my doctor asked her when the last time she had seen an ob/gyn, and the woman answered "when you delivered my baby"...her kid was 13 years old. she puts on her gloves, inserts the speculum, and she said she audibly gasped. her cervix was MANGLED with cancer. the woman died within a year.

it's not scary. specifically what about it scares you?

and you're supposed to start going when you start having sex, or when you turn 18/21/whatever the number is now. you go for preventative purposes, like mentioned. you can easily have chlamydia, gonorrhea, or even cervical cancer & have no symptoms. it's fully covered in many health insurance plans, and even if it's not, it's still worth going.

I'm definitely on the "you can never be too careful" end of the spectrum in regards to health stuff - I wouldn't say I'm a hypochondriac, but probably more paranoid than most. I've always been like this, but also been through some personal stuff that makes me pretty sensitive. my mombo was visiting me at IU freshman year for a parents' day, and they were giving out free chair massages at our student union. the lady told my mom she felt something weird in her neck and to get it checked out. a year later she was under the knife having thyroid cancer taken out. she is "all better now" but still has to get PET scans, bloodwork, and the iodine scans every year.

to me, one of the best feelings in the world is getting the call/postcard/email from my doctor's office saying "all's good! no AIDs or cancer!!11!" and not really having to think about it again for another 6 months/year.

I definitely made excuses to not go for a long time, finally went last year when I was 23, I was shaking and was so worried, before the exam I even got teary eyed because I was scared. I hate going to doctors, and never go unless I broke something or I am dying.

I made such a big deal out of it in my head, and while it is something you get used to, it really is not that bad. The doctors I have usually had are very nice and tell you everything that is going on, and if you explain this is your first time and you are apprehensive, then I am sure they will try and make you feel more comfortable.

well, i get a sharp, intense pain when they open the speculum and it keeps hurting til they take it out. the "sample-taking" stabbing also hurts like a bitch and i've had their scraping keep on bleeding for a couple of days, the bastards

and sure the scraping isn't the most comfortable thing, but it's less painful than a period & definitely doesn't last nearly as long. a vaccine is more painful than this.

my least favorite part is the size of that contraption, I don't have toys that size!! lol, but it is so quick you will wonder why you just hadn't gotten it out of the way sooner. Afterwards I always get mild cramps (like period cramps), so I always schedule mine for the end of the day so that I can go home, shower, eat something yummy, and curl up in bed.

the only part that causes me discomfort is the actual pap. that's just light cramping. oh and having the iud put in. but ive only done that twice.

ive only had two internal ultrasounds at the beginning of both pregnancies.
