woop, got one out of the blue
Quote : | " I'm pretty sure my boss will be fired in the near future. I've pieced together quite a few pieces of corroborating evidence from people that would know; I'd bet serious money, I'm that confident.
I'm pretty conflicted on how to handle this. I shouldn't know what I know, but my boss has been good to me, despite the fact that he's been an obstinate pain in the ass recently. I feel loyal, because he'd tip me off if I was about to get fired, but I'm.not sure what telling him would accomplish. I know for a fact he is applying to jobs, because he hates it there, so tipping him off wouldn't give him a head start on the job search.
On the flip side, I don't want to piss the higher-ups off, as they've insulated me from a lot of garbage going on at work.
Ultimately, I probably won't say anything, unless he mentions having an offer... In which case I would only encourage him to take it, and remind him how much he hates this place. Its just weighing on me and feel the need to post.
Tww is not a blog. " |
Probably best not to say anything, imo. If you're wrong, that will bite you in the ass. If anyone else finds out, that will bite you in the ass. And since it sounds like he wants out anyway, I guess you can just hope he finds something else before they let him go.5/6/2014 10:19:05 PM |

That confession doesn't really explain much of the situation, but I've always thought it was strange to have that kind of close relationship with a superior. I guess it depends on the type of work place. 5/6/2014 10:33:55 PM |

Eh, "boss" can mean different things at different places. Some places it's that guy you're afraid of, and others it's more someone on your team who technically oversees you but doesn't evidence that unless you fuck up.
Follow-up:
Quote : | "The situation is multi-layered, this isn't for cause. There are elements of the company becoming "lean"; he wont be the only one, but I also believe that he made the decision easier. The biggest complicating factor that weighs on me is that he is a single bread winner for a family. Like I said, a warning wouldn't change anything, other than he wouldn't decline a new job. With that in mind I'll likely stay silent. It sucks knowing he has kids at home. " |

An update on an earlier confession...think this is part 4:
Quote : | "I wrote a while back about my wife and some of the recent struggles we have been having. We've had a series of conversations recently and she has agreed to go see a therapist/psychologist/psychiatrist, not for our marriage but for her personally. I'm seeking advice on either how to improve her experience at her therapist/psych or maybe even the name of a good one.
Here is the kicker....
She has been to see a therapist before but felt that it wasn't good for her because once she would start to get on a roll and open up the therapist would close the session because the hour was up and that on particularly hard days when she really needed advice from the therapist, they weren't really on call. I've never been to see a professional so I don't know if it's possible to have extended sessions longer than an hour or have someone on call.
Anyone's help here would be great. If someone is uncomfortable posting in the thread, they could send the information to synapse as a confession or as a message to forward to me" |

Or, let's say I'm partaking in some delicious food that includes food from multiple nations? The White Stripes seems important in that situation. "Nom, na na nanoommmmm, noommmmm. Nom, na na nanoommmmm."
And so forth." |

Sorry to be mean, but that sounds like a really dumb or naive question. Do you think only single people should need therapy? Her sig other is probably not qualified to handle serious psychological issues and/or there are things she doesn't feel comfortable talking to him about.5/7/2014 2:41:31 PM |

^^^No! I have food parties. Whatever I'm eating gets attached to the word party--for instance, I'm having a shrimp party this evening. While I prepare my food, I celebrate by singing whatever kind of party it is over and over again, usually to the tune of "Brass Monkey."

it's better/easier to talk to and get advice from someone who isn't a stakeholder in the situation. communication should be open between the spouses, too. of course. IMO.5/7/2014 5:19:36 PM |

Sheesh, so angry... Did you miss the "in those situations"? As in, it's the weekend, therapist isnt working, wife is freaking out, she needs someone to talk to...? Seems like it makes sense to talk to your spouse rather than continuing to freak out.5/7/2014 5:43:13 PM |

Since nobody has mentioned it yet, I'll go ahead and point out that the wife either has a few more problems than were originally described, or she's not 100% clear on the point of therapy.
And moron is entirely correct that, unless she's in a very serious crisis right now, she should be talking to her husband and others when she needs support or feels stressed/overwhelmed. That's an important life skill.
Contacting your therapist in the evenings or during someone else's appointment is for emergencies only, and you should expect a very short chat and instructions on what to do before your next appointment. 5/7/2014 6:16:15 PM |

What part of my comment seemed angry?
But yea it seems strange that everyone thinks it's perfectly normal for an alcoholic/drug addict to have support on call 24/7,other than their sig other, but not for someone struggling with depression or anxiety. Sig others can frequently exacerbate those issues and are too close. Sometimes people need someone to talk to outside of their close circle. If they didn't, therapists would barely exist.
"I think I'm having a heart attack but it's off hours so I'll just see if my sig other can fix it."

^Recovering addicts do NOT have support on call 24/7--that's not what a sponsor does.
To be clear, everything that recovering addicts have, someone with depression or anxiety could have, too. But they have to build their own network of support just like addicts do. There are groups for depression and anxiety, and if you want more support, or you don't feel comfortable talking to your friends and family, then you go to group and start your network. You don't get a 24/7 therapist. 5/7/2014 11:29:18 PM |
rwoody Save TWW 37671 Posts user info edit post |
Well so that is an appropriate answer, go to a group and get a sponsor. Acting like she is dumb or the husband is non-supportive isn't.
My point is just that mental health issues come up off hours just like regular health issues.
And to be clear, maybe she should try talking to her husband more and maybe he is non-supportive, but it's not like that is the simple obvious solution
