Quote : | "Scoring is simple this time. You either make it through, or your new nickname is "FOOD."
The recipe for survival is DEAD SIMPLE.
1. Rescue a loved one. You'll fight your way through the infected alone to make it across the apartment courtyard to get to your loved one. This will take a lot of serious close-in rifle work to accomplish, but a pistol is also going to be necessary. If you accomplish this, you'll meet up with others and begin to work together as a team, because there are significant challenges ahead that you just can't do on your own. Shooters running a precision rig will have to get this done with pistol only.
2. The Chow Run. Man does not live by zombie shootin' alone. Food & Water are critical, but between you and the food are the infected. Don't forget... once they see you, they'll be on a little "chow run" of their own. Can you get the truck loaded and keep the infected away at the same time? I guess we'll find out...
3. The Hoarde. This will be your first encounter with a large group of the infected. Some shooters are going to get in over their heads. When that happens, it's going to be up to the precision shooters to impart some 175 grain suggestions into the minds of the infected. This won't be easy.
4. Egress. Fighting the Hoarde openly has drawn too many of the infected to you, and it's time to move the team to a better position. Precision shooters are going to back you up as you deliver accurate fire to pave the way. Engage the infected with rifle. from 100Y away, making sure they don't get any closer than that.
5. Cleanup. Everybody wants to go to the party, but who wants to stay and help clean up? If you've survived this far thanks to your team doing its part, you'll have to take down the infected that remain. Some are difficult shots, but this is something that's just got to get done if you want to see the sun rise again." |

Prior to going home for thanksgiving my roommate and I put in some serious hours playing Call of Duty: World at War. What does this have to do with zombies?, some of you may wonder. Well, when you beat the single-player campaign, you unlock "Nazi Zombies Mode," which is basically about as much fun as I've ever had with my pants on.
Playing cooperatively, we've made it to stage 13. The first couple of stages are jokes -- your starting pistol is enough to take them out and earn serious points. By levels 5-7, a couple of simple errors can get you killed. Past level 10 it's pretty much a bloodbath of you delaying the inevitable. Supposedly the designers of the game, playing 4 players on LAN, have managed to get to level 23.
If anyone else is playing this on PS3 and would like to team up, plz to let me know. I'd love to see how far I could get with three other people.
---
The game allows for some effective use of flamethrowers and grenades, but of course, the game doesn't model the possibility of the building burning down or blowing apart. Our most successful weapons combination (not including the wildly effective but of course nonexistant Ray Gun) seems to be a trench gun coupled with carefully managed use of sub/machine guns. This strikes me as fairly realistic, again assuming that you can overcome the urge to just upen up with the MG. 11/24/2008 4:17:11 PM |

You start on the first story of a house. There's an upstairs and another downstairs room, but it costs points to get into those places. You get points by killing zombies and repairing barricades at building entrances (of which there are several).
There are some weapons you can buy along the walls, including a bolt-action rifle (KAR), a Thomspon, a BAR, a trench gun, a carbine, and extra grenades. I think that's all you can buy directly. On top of that, though, there is a "mystery box" in the other downstairs room that costs a medium amount of money and generates a random gun for you.
The Mystery Box might provide you with crap (say, a bold action rifle, which isn't great and which can be bought off the wall for far cheaper) or something glorious. These include a .50 caliber machine gun, an MP44, a flamethrower, a sniper rifle (not a lot of opportunity to zoom in, but great power and penetration), and the all-powerful ray gun.
As yet there's only the one level, with increasing waves of zombies as time goes on. It seems pretty popular, though, so I'm confident that more stuff for it will be released.
---
The zombies get into the building via windows and a tunnel through which they break down one of the downstairs walls. All of these have simple barricades of perhaps five pieces that can be replaced whenever you get a moment to do so. Also, each room has an unlockable access point to each of the other rooms. The preferable strategy is to unlock rooms in such an order that it permits you to face zombies coming from only one direction.

Quote : | "Transportation officials in Texas are scrambling to prevent hackers from changing messages on digital road signs after one sign in Austin was altered to read, "Zombies Ahead."
Chris Lippincott, director of media relations for the Texas Department of Transportation, confirmed that a portable traffic sign at Lamar Boulevard and West 15th Street, near the University of Texas at Austin, was hacked into during the early hours of Jan. 19.
"It was clever, kind of cute, but not what it was intended for," said Lippincott, who saw the sign during his morning commute. "Those signs are deployed for a reason — to improve traffic conditions, let folks know there's a road closure."
"It's sort of amusing, but not at all helpful," he told FOXNews.com.
Tampering with portable road signs is illegal and potentially dangerous to drivers. It is a misdemeanor in Texas, with penalties ranging from fines to potential jail time.
Lippincott said the hacked sign — manufactured by IMAGO — is owned and operated by the city of Austin. Texas Department of Transportation signs have not been affected, he said.
"It is always possible that it could occur, but we attempt to prevent hacking incidents," Lippincott wrote in an e-mail. He declined to comment on security measures to protect the state's signs from hackers.
Austin Public Works spokeswoman Sara Hartley said the incident was not initially reported to police, but will be shortly. The sign was reverted back to its original message within hours, according to Hartley, who insisted the signs are tamper-resistant and equipped with external locks.
"This sign was broken into, it was not just a 'walk up and change the sign' kind of thing," Hartley told FOXNews.com. "This is a new one for us, we've never had it happen before."
She said she did not know whether any other signs in the area had been altered.
According to the blog i-hacked.com, some commercial road signs, including those manufactured by IMAGO's ADDCO division, can be easily altered because their instrument panels are frequently left unlocked and their default passwords are not changed.
"Programming is as simple as scrolling down the menu selection," i-hacked.com reports. "Type whatever you want to display … In all likelihood, the crew will not have changed [the password]."
I-hacked.com warns readers not to try to alter the signs, which cost roughly $15,000.
ADDCO Chief Operating Officer Brian Nicholson told FOXNews.com that the company is sending out notices to customers on the potentially dangerous security flaw.
"It's incumbent upon users to change the default password and secure the sign with a padlock," Nicholson said. "We're having our engineers review this information."
In the meantime, if you're driving in Austin, you can rest assured: There are no zombies ahead." |

OH GOD
http://bouncewith.me.uk/europe/8027043.htm
Quote : | " EU quarantines London in flu panic
The EU is considering a travel advisory for Mexico
There has been a small outbreak of “zombism” in London due to mutation of the H1N1 virus into new strain: H1Z1.
Similar to a scare originally found in Cambodia back in 2005, victims of a new strain of the swine flu virus H1N1 have been reported in London.
After death, this virus is able to restart the heart of it’s victim for up to two hours after the initial demise of the person where the individual behaves in extremely violent ways from what is believe to be a combination of brain damage and a chemical released into blood during “resurrection.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the alert to phase six, its highest level, and advised governments to activate pandemic contingency plans.
In Mexico, the epicentre of the outbreak, President Felipe Calderon urged people to stay at home over the next five days.
CONFIRMED CASES Map Mexico: 168 suspected deaths - eight confirmed - 12 zombies US: one death, at least 91 confirmed cases New Zealand: 13 confirmed cases Canada: 19 confirmed cases UK: 5 confirmed cases Spain: 10 confirmed cases Germany: 3 confirmed cases Israel, Costa Rica: 2 confirmed cases each The Netherland, Switzerland, Austria, Peru: 1 confirmed case each
There are many cases elsewhere - including the US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Israel, and New Zealand.
BBC health correspondent Mark McGrith says the raising of the WHO alert on Wednesday suggests a global epidemic, or pandemic, is imminent.
In the latest developments:
* The Netherlands confirms its first case of zombie swine flu, in a three-year-old boy recently returned from Mexico. After passing away early this morning, he rose from the dead and lunged at his mother. * Ghana has become the latest country to ban pork imports as a precaution against swine flu, though no cases have been found in the West African country * China's health minister says that the country's scientists have developed a "sensitive and fast" test for spotting swine flu in conjunction with US scientists and the WHO. The country has recorded no incidence of the flu yet. There methods, however, have been uneffective in spotting the H1Z1 strain.
At the meeting of health ministers in Luxembourg, a French proposal for a continent-wide travel advisory for Mexico will be discussed.
SYMPTOMS - WHAT TO DO Swine flu symptoms are similar to those produced by ordinary seasonal flu - fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, chills and fatigue If you have flu symptoms and recently visited affected areas of Mexico, you should seek medical advice If you suspect you are infected, you should stay at home and take advice by telephone initially, in order to minimise the risk of infection If you feel yourself passing away, then notice your strength and vigor returning at an alarming rate, please attempt to restrain yourself to prevent infection and harm to others.
It is unclear whether the EU executive has the power to impose a travel ban.
Several countries have restricted travel to Mexico and many tour operators have cancelled holidays.
Other members are resisting calls to implement travel bans or close borders, on the grounds - backed by the WHO - that there is little evidence of their efficacy.
The EU ministers will also try to agree on how to refer to the new virus.
The European Commission has been calling it "novel flu", replacing the word "swine" to avoid prompting a fall in demand for pork and bacon.
On Wednesday, Egypt began a mass slaughter of its pigs - even though the WHO says the virus was now being transmitted from human to human.
Have you been affected by the zombie strain of swine flu? You can send your experiences using the form below. You can also send your questions about the decision to raise the alert and we will send it to our health experts.
A selection of your comments may be published, displaying your name and location unless you state otherwise in the box below. " |

See, if I were a paranoid zombie enthusiast -- which I am -- it would concern me that a new disease outbreak in Mexico took place right after a bunch of reports of violence in Mexico.
That's how it will supposedly go if the government suppresses accurate reporting. An unexplained rise in violence, followed by references to a disease that is met with ineffective countermeasures but for some reason we here in America don't really have to worry about. 5/31/2009 8:51:41 PM |

OH DEAR GOD NO
THE ZOMBIES ARE ROBOTS
Quote : | "Upcoming Military Robot Could Feed on Dead Bodies BRAINS" |
Quote : | "A Maryland company under contract to the Pentagon is working on a steam-powered robot that would fuel itself by gobbling up whatever organic material it can find — grass, wood, old furniture, even dead bodies .
Robotic Technology Inc.'s Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot — that's right, "EATR" — "can find, ingest, and extract energy from biomass in the environment (and other organically-based energy sources), as well as use conventional and alternative fuels (such as gasoline, heavy fuel, kerosene, diesel, propane, coal, cooking oil, and solar) when suitable," reads the company's Web site.
That "biomass" and "other organically-based energy sources" wouldn't necessarily be limited to plant material — animal and human corpses contain plenty of energy, and they'd be plentiful in a war zone.
EATR will be powered by the Waste Heat Engine developed by Cyclone Power Technology of Pompano Beach, Fla., which uses an "external combustion chamber" burning up fuel to heat up water in a closed loop, generating electricity.
The advantages to the military are that the robot would be extremely flexible in fuel sources and could roam on its own for months, even years, without having to be refueled or serviced. " |
We're doomed...

^You're referring to "Day by Day Armageddon," which you can really only get by ordering off the internet. I have a copy if you want to pick it up.
It's not particularly deep or well-written, and some of the things that happen are just a little too convenient, but it's a fun read. This as opposed to "World War Z," which actually has the makings of a good book and a good old fashioned zombie story -- that is, it has a lot of social commentary, outside references, etc.
"Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," when it's good, is very entertaining. Sometimes you have to slog your way through a whole lot of "Pride and Prejudice" between instances of "and Zombies," though, especially in the latter half. Still, though, it makes the original work readable for those of us who would never pick it up in a million years. Just when you're about to give up after ten pages of girls whining about men, there's a ninja zombie fight that on its own would just be stupid but which comes off as hilarious in the context.

Agreed. I won't ruin it with intricate details but the main character just happens to have tons of supplies and defenses built up way before the zombie outbreak. After some of the book, him and some other survivors stumble across a really convenient holdout too. The first chapter is available to be read online, I posted the link a few pages back I think.
