I don't know if this is any comfort to you guys, but the Wal Mart at Waverly Place in Cary is almost exclusively NCSU gear.

It really is all about demand as much as we may not want to admit it.

If we put a few NCAA Championships under our belt in this century and have someone like MJ come out of our school, then NCSU gear will be available at Wal Marts everywhere. Just sayin.

We had one even better, David Thompson, ever heard of him?

Too bad drugs and injuries ruined what could have been for him.

good as Thompson was, I don't think he was ever on a team that was going to win 6 NBA titles.

^^^ Saw a dirty Mexican on the strip in Las Vegas handing out those little cards with hookers on them wearing a UNC hat. Took a picture with my cell phone and sent it to all my UNC buddies.

I'm ok with not seeing that guy wearing a NCSU hat.

^lmao... we call those mexicans the "poppers" because they "pop" that porn card in front of you whether you like it or not.... I too am glad that none of them wear the NC State logo...

Sputter is right though.... its all about demand.. but ya gotta admit that UNC benefits from that popularity in recruiting, merchandise sales, TV time, etc.... the uneducated masses love UNC because they like the team that wins. In turn, state fans love to hate on the fact that 90% of the UNC fanbase are bandwagon, "Wal-Mart", fair-weather, pop-culture posers....
Maybe if they knew how much the stuckup fags that attend UNC think they are so much better than the rest of the "trash" in this state they might change their minds and start buying Duke gear. No wait... Duke alums and students also think they are better than the "trash" they are surrounded by in this state. They wont even consider stocking State gear for those masses because we never win anyting significant. They won't start coming back to us until we start winning titles and champoinships (and thus more SC hype).... Sid is getting us much closer...

But I pose a question: would you rather be under the radar, stuggling with recognition/recruiting, etc. OR would you rather be hyped the hell out with mexicans popping porn cards in vegas wearing state logo hats? Im not sure myself...

We'd all love to see that. Unfortunately, the last part, being a Top 10 on ESPN, probably wouldn't happen (we all know why).

Quote :
"Mays enjoying busy summer stretch
By Jacey Zembal, TheWolfpacker.com Editor – Rivals.com

Julius Mays already knows where he is going to college, but that doesn't mean the work is done.

The North Carolina State commitment played in Mequon, Wis., in front of Wolfpack assistant coach Monte Towe this past weekend and will be heading to the Nike Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C., on Thursday-through-Sunday.

The star rising senior from Marion, Ind., is glad he doesn't have to worry about his college plans, and is already thinking about wearing the NC State jersey one day.

"I just want to be out there against the top competition," Mays said. "I'm not really looking into being recruited, just want to face top competition.

"I never really think about trying to impress the college coaches (like some players have to). I figure that there is always someone out there watching that I have to impress. I don't think about it on the court, as I just go out and play."

July is going to be a busy month for Mays, but so was June. He was able to play against Eric Gordon twice in the Indiana all-star series that pits juniors against seniors. Mays was one of six juniors that played in every game, while the other six roster spots get rotated each game.

"The games were fun and a good experience," Mays said. "It was kind of hard because they add six new players to the roster for every game. It was different, but it was fun.
"There have only been a few days (this summer) where I've rested or my mom tells me not to play that day."

The Indiana-bound Gordon is already getting discussed as the potential No. 1 pick in the 2008 NBA draft. Mays had previously played twice against Gordon on the high school level.

"When I go play (against anybody), I just see if I get better or not, or whether I stay the same," Mays said. "I'm looking forward to playing against any of the guys that have gotten ranked high. I really don't care about where I'm ranked."

SYF coach Wayne Brumm describes Mays a combo guard because he can score like a shooting guard, but at 6-foot-2, he has the size of a point guard. Becoming a true point guard is one of his goals this summer.

"I'm working on my speed and probably my defense," Mays said. "I know at the next level I have to play point guard.
In AAU, my team has a point guard, so I play the two. I know in college, that I have to play the point guard, so it doesn't matter that I get called a combo guard."

Besides the traveling team basketball, Mays played with his high school team for most of June. Marion is considered a favorite to win the state title next year.

"I think we'll be ranked No. 1 or No. 2, from what people are talking about," Mays said.

Mays plans on taking his official visit to NC State next October, though he might take an unofficial visit beforehand.

"I talk to (fellow recruit) C.J. Williams because he calls to check in," Mays said. "I was able to meet him at the Red and White game.

"It's hard not to think about that I'll be playing for NC State in the future.""

Rivals has updated the 150 for 2007. Previously, only CJ Williams was on the list, but now Julius Mays has been added as well (#150). Both are ranked as 3 stars.

Glad to see Julius made the list.

An article I found from another source at DBB.

http://www.dukebasketballreport.com/articles/?p=23109

Quote :
".J. Williams is expanding his game in preparation for the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The 6-foot-5 forward from Jack Britt High School committed to N.C. State during his junior year. He plans to sign a letter of intent in November.

Williams has spent quite a bit of game time around the basket because the Buccaneers need his rebounding. But much of his practice time is used honing perimeter skills, with the knowledge that versatility will earn minutes at State.

He averaged 24.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.2 blocked shots and two assists per game in a junior season that saw Britt finish 19-8 after a loss in the first round of the state 4-A playoffs. He shot 52 percent from the floor and 76 percent from the foul line.

Williams scored 30 or more points five times, including a season-high 34. He made 40 three-pointers, managing around 33 percent accuracy behind the arc.

“C.J. played everywhere for us,” Britt coach Ike Walker Jr. said. “We started him at power forward, and he has played center when we wanted to go small and quick. His natural position is small forward, and with improved three shooting, he can be a fine wing guard.

“He will even play some point guard for us this season. We are very young there, and putting the ball in his hands in the backcourt makes him that much harder to defend. He will create some mismatches.

“C.J. is sneaky athletic,” Walker said. “He can elevate over people for his jump shot and he has superb timing that makes him an outstanding shot blocker. He is a good ball handler and passer. He never was a permanent perimeter player, but this year he will be on the wing a lot.

“His greatest attribute is his selflessness. He is a very unselfish kid who is very efficient out there; he doesn’t take many bad shots. You look in the scorebook, and he has 28 points when you would have thought he got 14.”

Williams did not start as a freshman, but played in every game. He contributed 12.4 points, six rebounds and over three assists a night his sophomore season.

“What helped him as a sophomore,” Walker said, “was playing with John Fields, Alvin Slaton and Jason Wray (all of whom are now on college rosters). C.J. was the fourth option for us. He had no pressure to produce.

“His coming-out party was in the state playoffs against Raleigh Broughton. We were missing John, who had a dislocated kneecap. C.J. had 24 points and 12 rebounds, and that performance propelled him into some big summer camps. That’s when the (scholarship) offers came.”

Williams attended camps at Virginia Tech, N.C. State and Clemson, and the coaches from all three schools offered him. In the fall of 2006, Miami offered, and so did South Carolina.

“He chose State because he developed a very good relationship with Sidney Lowe and (Wolfpack assistant) Larry Harris,” Walker explained. “Lowe played and coached in the NBA, and kids know connections can help down the road.

“People were amazed when C.J. got those offers before his junior year. They saw a raw talent, but they didn’t expect him to be offered by three ACC schools. Now, everyone is seeing just how good he is.”

Big Ben is hurt?

Quote :
"We talked about his briefly in our first article, but it’s worth harping on how interesting the group of NCAA players adidas managed to assemble here in New Orleans. Even though there were some injuries (the very underrated Ben McCauley, Antonio Anderson, Tyler Smith) and unexplained absences (Derrick Rose, Brook Lopez, Robert Dozier, Quincy Pondexter, Tasmin Mitchell), which dwindled down to the number of players to 13 or 14 by the last game, we still got a great opportunity to see so many high level players going at it right in front of our eyes at least a half-dozen times in a very competitive setting.

Rivals also updated the 2009 rankings, and Jordan Hamilton is now ranked #8. He's said some very good things about State and Coach Lowe, so that's very encouraging. Right after Hamilton is John Wall, a PG right here in Raleigh.

Anyone know what the story is with Noel Johnson and Derrick Favors? That Rivals article a while back made it sound like both were looking at the Pack together as a package deal, but other than that I haven't seen anything indicating that they were even thinking about coming here.

"John Wall, PG, Raleigh (N.C.) Word Of God Christian Academy, Class of 2009
John Wall reminds us of the Phoenix Suns' Leandro Barbosa with more of a point-guard mentality. At 6 feet 3, Wall has unguardable speed with the basketball and an uncanny ability to finish at the basket.
In the three games that we watched Wall play in Las Vegas, we didn't see an opponent who was able to keep him out of the lane. In fact, Wall repeatedly made his way to the basket. He finished with regularity, or was able to find teammates at the last moment. Rarely do you find a player who continues to pick up speed once he enters the scoring zone and is still able to make positive plays the vast majority of the time.

Wall burst onto the national scene this July, and the list of schools recruiting him is growing.
"

I hope we land this kid.

John Wall has a confirmed offer from us (per PPprem). He will have one from just about everyone before it is all said and done.

BTW, the Pack Pride premium information is so worth it. If you can manage to cut out a single extra meal each month then you've paid for it. I'm about to switch to the yearly plan simply because I know I will never cancel. I don't read all of the articles or watch all the videos but simply having a message board without all the riffraff is WELL worth it. Things like the Mike Glennon weekly diary that started today is only more justification. Really cool stuff.
