Easiest way to lose weight comes from simple things

No Carbs past 7 or 8. Really shouldn't eat either, but I tend to eat stuff like jerky, eggwhites or cottage cheese if I'm hungry.

Avoid sugary food, yes even fruits. The only place you really need something that high in sugar is after workouts when you need an insulin spike in your system

Eat below your BMR.

Get out and exercise. Its really a matter of how much time and intensity you want to put into it. Only have 30 min? Do some HIIT. Have a couple hours but don't want to run, just walk for 2 hours. etc

Does anybody have any good ideas for fast, easy breakfast foods? I wake up early to work out and don't really have time to make eggs before school and work

I've gotta admit, I have a strong competitive urge. We've been doing this for the past 12 1/2 weeks...and I've lost a total of 38 lbs. That's 12.6% of my original body weight...and I'm winning as of now myself. 3 1/2 weeks left...

But it's easy losing the fluff...and I have/had a lot of fluff.

I'll do either ham or turkey with some dijon mustard on a piece of low-carb bread (like Nature's Own Wheat'n Fiber), or peanut butter. Worst case: I grab a handfull or two of nuts. As a matter of fact, I eat nuts every day, either with/for breakfast or at breaktime.

for breakfast, i love protein bars. those seem to hold me over until my mid-morning snack.

look in your grocery store. i know harris teeter started selling (about 2 months ago) spray dressing that is low calorie and low fat. it's like 10 sprays for 10 calories or some junk. and it comes in 5 or 6 different kinds. i love it. plus i can spray a little bit, eat it, spray a little bit....you get the hint but when i get to the bottom, my salad isnt sogged down with too much dressing. truly brilliant.

my office is doing the biggest loser competition as well.....it's been about a month now and well, people are starting to crack. kind of funny watching people come in with venti frappachinos from starbucks and chickafila. i'm not participating but i'm enjoying watching everyone.

Smoking was easy to give up compared to giving up food. And one thing I've found out...I can't give up the good stuff entirely. Hell, my doctor back in Apex told me that I shouldn't try to give up everything and be all hardcore. Waaaay too hard.

I still eat total crap a time or two a week. Some weeks = more junk than others but as long as you don't lose track of the end goal.

maybe you should designate a specific day that is your "free day." you can eat whatever you like on that specific day and you're on your regular diet during the other 6 days.

I'd say the free day is a good idea - so long as you don't go way way overboard and eat 10,000 calories.

But I think if you have one free day, then you'll kind of make up for not eating crap the other days and eat more junk than you would by just eating a tiny bit of whatever you're craving when the craving hits every once in a while.

cyclic ketogenic diets are the perfect diet for incorporating cheat days into your schedule. You feel like absolute shit on your cheat day because of the insulin and sugar swings, so after a few weeks you'll find that you have absolutely no desire to eat garbage.

^Cyclic ketogenic? You mean, as in going into and out of ketosis, but never actually achieving a high rate of ketosis?

I occasionally use ketone reagent strips just to see what my ketone levels are.

Pretty sure he means basic carb cycling. One a heavy workout day you eat a decent amount of carbs, on days you don't, you eat very few carbs.

I think it's a bad idea to cut out fruits. Besides the sugar that's in fruit slowly absorbs into your system which doesn't cause the insulin spike like actual granulated sugar does. It's a great energy booster throughout the day and provides many nutrients to keep your body healthy. I think it's important to get fruits, vegetables, fish in some form, and white meat into your system. Keep things as natural as possible.

not eating after 7pm is impossible for me. On my work days I am moving around all day from 9am til 8pm then I go to workout until 9pm. I need to have some protein after a workout, especially since my workout lasts all day. I think that's why I get hungry around that time on days that i'm off.

I need to find new recipes to use that are easy to make. I read this one that had tuna in a little bit of mayo with some garlic salt laid in lettuce leaves with a bit of tomato on top. She said she added relish too. Sounds delicious and easy and it helps gets different veggies in there.

zxappeal my favorite trail mix is walnuts, almonds, and raisins. Simple but satisfying and wonderful.

cyclic ketogenic diets are not basic carb cycling by any means. it's a ketogenic diet where you eat extremely low carb for 6-13 days followed by a 1-2 day carbup. I got the best results from doing 6 days low carb and a 1 day carb-up. Your body hits ketosis after 72 hours, and then you get a good 3 days of heavy dieting. The diet has an incredibly structured resistance training program to complement your glycogen stores and hormone levels.

If you want to do more research on it, either search for CKD or pick up "Bodyopus" or "The Ultimate Diet 2.0". Dan Duchaine and Dave Palumbo also have several articles floating around online on the diet.

ketosis strips are great for finding out how your body responds to certain foods if you are trying to maintain ketosis.

Wrong. I teach nutrition and fruit is a normal and good part of your daily diet. You should not cut out all sugar because your body needs some of it...and fruits provide a lot of nutrients.

We should, however, get a handle on what an appropriate amount of fruit is. You need 2-4 servings per day....one serving is a medium fruit or 3/4 cup of dried fruit or 1 cup of fruit juice, not from concentrate.

just my 2 cents.

your body doesn't "need" fruit, regardless of what the FDA claims. The human body needs protein and dietary fats; it wants carbohydrates but can operate fine without them.

the FDA is accurate enough for their listings of daily vitamin and mineral requirements. they just have absolutely no business dictating how people should partition their calorie intake.

The human body is capable of running on fat as a fuel source and converting protein into glucose if necessary. Your body is capable of operating correctly for indefinite periods of time in the absence of carbohydrates. The same cannot be said for a diet deficient in fat or protein.

down to 211. I weighed in at 227 in January at elusis house.

and I've found out how shitty my metabolism is.

Also, I'm trying to cut down on carbohydrates, but I've got two big problems. 1) I'm fucking dirt poor at the moment, im living on about 25 bucks a week. and 2) How to get the fats/protein without KILLING my sodium intake?

If you will re-read what I stated, I did not say your body "needed" fruit. I said the food guide pyramid says your need fruit. I did say it was normal and good for you. I did say your body NEEDS sugar, which is does.....rather it comes from fruit or from glucose being created out of fat and protein was left unsaid.

Yes, the FDA has the food guide pyramid, which has recently changed, but fruit is on there.

Diets high in fat and non-lean protein can also be diets high at risk for heart disease and cholesterol. We need to note that "protein" is not a burger...it's chicken breast or turkey breast....etc.

Anyhow, fruits do provide a lot of nutrients...as I said before.

LDL vs HDL....one collects bad stuff and stores it and one carries bad stuff out...in very simplistic terms.

High Density lipoproteins are the good ones...low density no good.

I splurged on an unhealthy meal after I had gone back to eating pretty strictly healthy foods for a while, and I felt like absolute crap... didn't even want the junk anymore

quick breakfast foods: hard-boiled eggs (boil them the night before and store in fridge), instant unsweetened oatmeal (takes a minute in the microwave and throw in some fresh blueberries), protein shake (thinking of trying that), all-natural bar (like Odwalla - lots of flavor options and high protein one is available)

Except there's evidence to show renal damage due to prolonged keytosis. Your body can convert proteins and fats into glucose, which is the only source of energy the brain can process, but its an emergency mechanism the body reverts to during what it percieves as starvation and can have negative long term health effects.

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever anyone shouldn't be eating small to moderate amounts of complex carbohydrates on a daily basis.

Only in type I diabetics who are incapable of preventing ketoacidosis. A high protein diet might cause kidney failure in people with underlying kidney disease, but that will happen regardless of the rest of their diet structure.

the brain is capable of running off of ketones as well, and gluconeogenesis is a normal body process that your body will undertake any time you have excess dietary protein or inadequate glycogen stores. There are no negative long term health effects, as numerous medical studies have reported in the last couple of years.

Most people that wanted to resist the merits of low-carbohydrate dieting always wanted to fall back on the old cop-out of there being no long term health studies. Well, you can't do that anymore.

There are plenty of reasons to avoid complex carbohydrates in the diet. the only carbohydrate your body NEEDS is fiber.

What's a good after workout meal? Peanut butter on half a whole grain bagel with fruit? YUMMY

Since I gained over the vacation I am now back down to one pound above my lowest weight yet. In ten pounds I get to have some ice cream (my damn crutch). After that I'm gonna practice having ice cream in the house. Allowing only one day a week to have like half a cup, as my treat for working so hard. Maybe that will help me break this cruel love affair I have with ice cream.

mmm kroger cells these little bags of apples. some come with caramel and some are plain. OMG Good, and they are already cut so it takes the excuse of being too lazy to cut it out.

whenever i crave a cookie or something, i just go for the apples now.

oh, i also splurged on a michael kors bathing suit this weekend. So, i have more motivation to work out more.
