They were pretty out of hand during the Gold Cup. Both in Philly and DC, there were points when my friend and I considered leaving because beer cups and other debris were just whizzing past our heads.

^^ I hadn't seen that until now... you must have been unlucky because most accounts I've read of people's interactions with Honduran fans have been good ones.

anyways, we back... game at Slovakia on Saturday, here's the roster:

Quote :
"GOALKEEPERS: Brad Guzan, Marcus Hahnemann, Troy Perkins.

DEFENDERS: Carlos Bocanegra, Jonathan Bornstein, Steve Cherundolo, Jimmy Conrad, Clarence Goodson, Frankie Hejduk, Chad Marshall, Heath Pearce, Jonathan Spector.

MIDFIELDERS: Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, Benny Feilhaber, Sacha Kljestan, Dax McCarty, Robbie Rogers.

FORWARDS: Jozy Altidore, Conor Casey, Jeff Cunningham, Eddie Johnson."

No Donovan, Holden, Ching, Clark due to the MLS playoffs on Friday and no Castillo and Torres because of their Mexican league game on Saturday. I think all of these guys could be called in for the Denmark game next Wednesday though.

I'm callin' an Eddie Johnson hat trick here

^^^ goddamnit, don't jinx us. It's just like Eddie to score a shitton of goals in meaningless games so our coaches forget how worthless he is and keep him on the roster.

true true, my bad. Although him actually getting a call-up is bad enough.

I'm what you would call a very casual MLS fan as I usually only see highlights and I've probably seen only a handful of complete games this year but - it's hard for me to believe Johnson gives us more than somebody like Robbie Findley or Cunningham. Hell, even Edson Buddle impresses me more than Eddie Johnson. I guess Bradley's just desperate to find a forward with speed to go alongside Jozy or Ching so he's willing to give Johnson as many chances as possible to prove his worth.

^^ already stated.... by me?

Yes, I understand why some people are on the roster. Still doesn't mean Eddie Johnson should get a look and yes I know Findley and Buddle are still in the playoffs. I just used them as examples because they NEVER get looks even though they consistently score goals in MLS. What about guys like Marcus Tracy or Jeremiah White? At least we can be surprised with what they might do... Eddie Johnson is freaking dead to me.

Anybody watching?

Bornstein gave up a stonewall penalty in the first half to give Slovakia their goal
Guzan's made a couple of big saves
Dempsey had a nice free kick
Eddie Johnson came on and has done nothing as expected (except scuff a pretty good look wide)
The Bradley/Feilhaber midfield was pretty good without a holding midfielder in my opinion, we were just missing Donovan's spark on the left

US WC2010 shirt... supposedly the away is blue with a white stripe, and the 3rd jersey is red with a blue stripe

I personally think it's ugly but whatever. I was actually starting to warm up to the dark gray ones we had now.

New shirt isn't great, but I'd rather have a little acknowledgement of 1950 than none at all, and having a red shirt available is always a good thing.

Charlie Davies had an interview on Sportscenter last night and said he'd be ready for the World Cup.

I don't care how fit he is, a 50% Davies is better than a 100% Ching/Cooper/Johnson/Casey.

Even if he only comes on as a late minute sub, you know the emotional lift would be huge for us.

World Cup 2010 draw criteria - read: FIFA crafts a formula to make sure Argentina and France are seeded while making the other pots fit nice and neat by region- decided today.

Draw held 12/4.

One pot goes to 8 seeded sides, with one pot then going to the likely 8 remaining Europeans teams, one pot then probably going to the African teams minus South Africa and the South American teams minus Brazil and Argentina, and the final pot going to the Asian, Oceania, and CONCACAF teams.

I fully expect the US to get boned with a draw that is something like Brazil, Netherlands, and Ivory Coast - but one can hope to win the proverbial lottery and be grouped with South Africa.

It's basically impossible not to get boned when you come out of one of the weak qualifying regions and aren't a world power.

Apparently Holden/Ching take over a radio station in Houston for an hour occasionally (I have no idea how frequent or if this was just a one time thing) but anyways...

They just called up Charlie Davies and he was talking about his recovery and stuff. Everybody was getting all emotional and it was actually pretty cool because it wasn't a set up interview or anything... just a couple of friends talking on the phone.

I'm not saying he's definitely going to play in the World Cup or anything but there's just something about him... there's no way I'm counting him out completely just yet.

It sounds like he thinks he can be back playing by March. If that's the case, with three months of training/playing under his belt, he could possibly be World Cup ready. I give him a 50% chance; right now there's no way to know what kind of speed and confidence he's going to have by then.

^They aren't that awesome because once again there are a ton of them on ebay. I still think they are from the 1930 World Cup though which is cool. If you type in any search for an Olympic, or World Cup year it's actually pretty easy to find collectors stamps, coins, and medals.

freddy adu's loan deal was just terminated by belenenses, the worst team in portugal league 1. This guy needs to seriously find a team where he can get regular playing time before he turns into another flop. Go back to the mls or some lower level league team, because he won't ever live up his potential on the track he's on now. His chance of making the world cup squad is almost nonexistant now. We need a player like him in midfield, i remember the u-20 game vs brazil. Him and jozy dominated the likes of pato and jo, but things have changed a lot now.

yep, I can't see him taking the extreme pay cut that would be required for him to come back to MLS though

I'd like to see him move to Holland but he should probably be happy with any place that will take him at the moment.

Maybe the RailHawks could sign him...

jesus i didn't think he was making that much. he's gonna have to take a pay cut to some extent, no team where he'll get playing time is gonna pay him like that. holland would be a good playing style for him i think, but i can't see too many teams enthusiastic about picking up a guy that has played like 400 minutes in the past 2 years. He's still young, 20, so he still has time to come back, but I think he's gonna have to swallow some of his pride and go to a shitty team or come back to the usa.

400k is the DP threshold in MLS... that means he'd have to take an extremely hefty pay cut to get in under it and probably even lower is what it'll take, I did a quick look at USMNT player salaries

I looked for teammates from that U-20 World Cup in Canada (the last time I really remember Adu killing it) that failed in Europe and came back to MLS - Danny Szetela (90,000) and Robbie Rogers (92,000)

Even established US Nats like Kljestan (170,000), Ricardo Clark (248,000) and Ching (242,000) who were all proven MLS contributors aren't even making near a DP salary and I know he's a special case because he turned down contract extensions to keep options open but... Stuart Holden was only making 34,728 last year

basically... Adu would probably have to take like a tenth of his current salary to come back to MLS. I know he could probably get more endorsements than those guys but his name isn't worth now what it was a few years ago. I'm going to bet on him staying in Europe or a certain MLS team losing their minds and overpaying for him. I can't imagine how pissed off MLS vets would be if a team broke the bank to bring Adu back though

and yes, I'm extremely bored right now

Freddy Adu just tweeted (but deleted it a little later) that he was between Aris (the team Eddie Johnson is on) and Hull. Although itd be sweet for him to go to hull with jozy, i doubt he'd play much, so it'd probably be wise for him to go to Aris, i think a greek team? The only thing for hull, I think they want to buy him, not loan him out. It'd probably be for about 1.5 mill. This actually could be a good move for adu, especially if hull gets relegated. He could definitely get playing time in the championship next year when better mids like bullard and giovanni move on to non-relegated teams.
