so last night i got to hear the unmixed version of the Gayngs' album, an R&B/80s electronic side project featuring Justin Vernon, Megafaun, and eventually St. Vincent Annie and the Department of Eagles/Grizzly Bear guy once they record their parts

holy shit it was awesome. every song is recorded at 69 BPM

Someone asked on the last page but I'll ask again ...
Anyone listened to the Where the Wild Things Are OST?

I thought the music was a gorgeous part of a goddamn beautiful movie, but wonder if those are snippets of 3-minute songs we hear and if they're good separate the wonderful visuals.

just downloaded the studio version of "New Fang" by Them Crooked Vultures. i heard a bunch of bootlegs of their songs, but if this is indicative of what their album is gonna sound like then it's gonna be a fucking monster when it's released. i'm surprised it took me this long to come to the realization that josh homme isn't capable of putting out bad music, but god damn everything the man touches turns to gold.

iTunes just released "Mind Eraser, No Chaser" by Them Crooked Vultures as a free download today. it has further supported my suspicion that this is going to be a really, really good album.

Stream the new Coalesce EP here: http://lambgoat.com/news/view.aspx?id=13534

Also, I mentioned this in the BTBAM thread, but huge congrats to those guys, their new album debuted at #36 on the Billboard charts. Highest charting release yet.

props to Julian Casablancas for covering the SNL Christmas Song

its always been one of my favorite sketches

[Edited on November 4, 2009 at 3:51 PM. Reason : is it really a sketch though?]

i'm surprised Pitchfork gave Raditude a 4.5

it should get a 0. it has no redeeming qualities.

I think most of you guys just have extreme overreactions because of how terrible it is compared to the first two albums. It's pretty bad, but it's definitely not 0 bad. 4.5 is pretty fair IMO.

i disagree. it's a 0 based on how bad it really is, not comparing it to blue or pinkerton. there is nothing good about it. the green album is like an 8 compared to this.

compare it to any other album this year that is somewhat good and it looks even worse. maybe sub 0

- i would rate this album a little higher if they had kept "can't stop partying" as an acoustic song. i thought that worked pretty well. as it is now, awful.

Out of curiosity, how would you rank the red album, compared to blue and Pinkerton, or on its own?

i like Pork & Beans and The Greatest Man That Ever Lived but the rest is just as bad as Raditude. I'd say it's a 3.5. I'd give Make Believe a 4

I'm liking this Julian Casablancas album. I see why most songs by The Strokes are two and half minutes, though.

yea i dont get the rating system there. They give Frances the Mute, one of my favorite albums this decade, a 2 and then give this steaming pile a 4.5.

Which reminds me, picked up Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's latest album, Xenophanes. Honestly one of my favorites among his solo albums easily. Its a lot more focused.

Totally random thought: am I the only person who hates the Hold Steady? That dude's voice annoys the shit out of me, and the piano parts are always tacked on, hokey, and mixed way too high.

The only good thing to come from The Hold Steady are nods to Kerouac and Led Zeppelin?

yeah, i've never been able to get into the hold steady. actually, i hate that shit.

in other unrelated but sad news, !!! and Juan Maclean drummer Jerry Fuchs died last night after falling down an elevator shaft in Brooklyn (what?). really sad, he was an awesome drummer, as evidenced here http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7ghl2_untitled-collaboration-with-the-fie_music

"According to sources at the party, Fuchs and a friend had attempted to leap over a gap between an elevator and the building's fifth floor after a malfunction. He fell in the gap due to his big fashion sense becoming caught on the elevator, falling down to his death."

I'm buying into this Sleigh Bells hype. Too bad their demo sounds like it was recorded in mono into a boombox that was inside a metal trash can.

sleigh bells is the bomb. i put "ring ring" on a bunch of mixes earlier this year and "A/B machines" is my jam even though it kills my ears every time it comes on my mp3 player.

ahahahahahahaha

RADITUDE appears to be clocking in at around 30,000 units sold in its first week, which ranks it right behind Josh Groban's Christmas CD and if memory serves me right not much more or even below the amount the Alone demo compilations sold. Oh, and you could buy it at Amazon for $4.

So hilarious to see the whole Rivers attitude of "fuck the fans and critics I'm just gonna make something that will be HUGE" blow up in his face. Weezer is an 8x platinum band, and they've been a joke musically for years, but now they are a joke in terms of popularity as well.

haha. where did you see their first week numbers? the few areas I usually check are being slow to update. actually the only source I found was estimating 60,000. Which I think is still significantly smaller than the last one. i dono tho.
