CalliPHISH, they are refunding your purchase and telling you to purchase it again to get Pro ... how does that equal not paying for it?

fucking idiot.

you said:
Quote :
"I ask you kind souls, ha.... If I installed Home, is there an easy way to upgrade to Professional? Why the hell would they make the link for this so small and assume people wanted Home? I mean, if its going to be the same price, why would you not make the better product more apparent."

Which to me reads as:

"If I purchase the Home edition, how, then, can I upgrade to Pro."

To which I responded: "you'd have to pay for both that way"

Then, I explained, again, how to purchase pro from the website, with the thought of you only purchasing one version... never did I say purchase two (I said you'd have to purchase two if you wanted to upgrade, having already bought home).

At least 3 times in the last 5 pages, I have shown you how to purchase the pro edition. I even posted explicit directions (again) for you, right below your post, with a screenshot of the link for pro.

I never said to purchase two copies. I showed you how to make one transaction for one product. and when you go/went back to purchase pro... YOU WOULD USE THE SAME FUCKING DIRECTIONS I POSTED AT LEAST 3 TIMES.

did you not read his post? they are giving him back his money, that was not at all what you said to do to resolve his problem of already purchasing home.

he had already purchased home (as made clear by the quote that you posted of his)
you suggested that he buy pro
that would be two purchases
he resolved it by only paying for one

his original issue was how to purchase the pro edition, which is the issue I was addressing. i was not trying to address (because I was not aware of) his mistake in purchasing home.

Quote :
"how can I get pro? I only saw home as an option."

tell me how my posts don't add up to getting pro. how are the opposite?

well, all others who tried to help didn't think you'd already purchased...

the only one who "understands you" and thought you had already purchased, came in afterwards to troll... so yeh, about 3-4 people didn't gather that you had already purchased.
I stand corrected, blowjobs did post...SAYING THE SAME FUCKING THING I SAID (how to get pro).

besides, you asked

"how can I get pro? I only saw home as an option."
. and I responded with how to purchase pro. you did not say, "I've already purchased home, but now I want to upgrade to pro." you asked how to get pro. i posted how to get pro. you're the lost fucking dumbass, seeing as how you couldn't even find the damn link.

In all seriousness, if I download and install pro as an upgrade I should keep all files and settings that I have on my 7 Home edition now right? WD, seriously, thanks for trying to help man - I think just a sentence or two made a world of difference. Pool picked up on it.

^ going back over many posts in the past 4 pages I mentioned I have home, including the previous page. Regardless, thanks for trying to help man. Wish I had been more specific.

There's an option in the System panel of the Control Panel that says "Change Activation Key" (or something to that effect -- not on my Windows 7 computer now). Change it to your Professional serial and I believe it'll download the missing components.

Not 100% sure, but this is what I remember hearing.

^ cool, good call, it is there. Did not realize I could do it that way. Thanks man.

:edit:

Doesn't sound like this is something I can do:

Quote :
"Update Your Product Key in Windows 7

The steps below will help you use the Change Product Key feature already included with your installation of Windows 7. If you bought an edition of Windows 7 other than what is on your machine, you cannot use this feature. For example, if you purchased Windows 7 Home Premium, and Windows 7 Ultimate is on your machine, you must perform a custom install."

can you still have a single copy for use on a desktop and laptop? i'm currently using the ultimate copy that i downloaded as a torrent a while ago (blah blah blah torrents are bad rawr rawr rawr), but i want to purchase the pro version...obviously, if i only have to purchase one copy, i'd much rather do that, but i'll purchase two if i have to

also, what differences will i notice between the ultimate and pro versions? yes, i'm sure this has been answered before, but i don't feel like sorting through the thread to find it...i don't really use any of the advanced features (at least, i don't think i do, since i'm not aware of what's unique to ultimate) is there anything blatantly different (IIRC, vista basic didn't include aero, where premium did...whether that's important or not isn't the issue, it's just that it was an obvious difference that your average user would notice if you pointed it out to them)

^ultimate doesn't really add much. might as well go with pro for $30

(ultimate only adds bitlocker and 35 languages, according to MS)

according to wiki:

^just try it dude.

^^^^There are a few other minor difference

In Ultimate you get Aero hardware passthrough rendering and windows media player redirection on remote desktop, and you get multi-monitor remote desktop. You also get federated search.

For all those who were bitching and moaning about having a network SAN, linux file server, et al, you can create an OpenSearch provider on those computers, and then connect to it from Ultimate. This lets you search across pretty much anything just like it's on your own machine.

But for most of us, none of those features mean shit (Outside of work, I don't think I ever use remote desktop, but here at the office it's freaking magical)

Honestly I didn't even know about it until I went to buy a copy of Win7 for myself. I was really interested in the under-the-hood differences between Pro and Ultimate, and that one really jumped out at me.

http://www.blogsdna.com/2260/how-to-create-windows-7-search-connectors-federated-search.htm

^^no

^It means you get full Aero over remote desktop. All the glass, transparency, effects, animation, transitions etc. It also means you can play video through WMP remotely (as well as any embedded WMV content) and it will play at full speed.

Does Windos 7 do a better job with disk management. The reason I ask is because every time I check my disks/partitions for fragmentation it always comes back with 0% fragmentation. I had to defrag in XP all the time, so I'm starting to get suspicious

I've checked the scheduled defrag angle, and it's not that. I assume it's just moving things around in the background from time to time... or something.

Vista and & have automatic defragmentation. I know with 7 it works pretty well. Almost as well as the old Win 95/98 defrager.

I received my free upgrade in the mail yesterday (bought a new laptop in august).

i was going to run it last night, but it said "this may take several hours"... so i cancelled it.

I was going to let it run while i slept, but it said i would have to reboot the computer and be prompted to answer some questions periodically

Just wanted to ask again. What do people use for windows explorer alternatives? I've been using total commander since windows 3. I just feel so restricted in windows explorer. Only one pane, can't have locked tabs, few features.

seriously? i would die. I have two panes with multiple locked tabs on each pane. I can instantly copy from one location to another without having to navigate anywhere. Not to mention built in zip, rar, etc support w/o external unpackers. Built in batch re-name tools, ftp. To even be productive with explorer I have to open two instances.

so?

everything you've listed with zip and rar is built in anyways just with right clicking..no reason for another program for that

your only other point is you want two instances more or less open at once..which makes sense and i could see to be useful.. just not something that is that big of a deal to me. i still have to go to the source location and the destination location. i can either do it in one window or two..doesn't matter to me

What do you mean? I'm saying it's built into total commander. I just double click on a .rar file like it's a folder and it treats it just like a folder. Whereas in explorer to open a .rar doesn't it open it with an external program? Maybe i'm not doing it right.

.zip files will open without anything if you want them to.. .rar i think opens with winrar or whatever you have but i dont really do that much

but, what i was saying is for unzipping or unrarring i can just right click and hit "unzip here" or "unzip to {insert name of file here}" and it makes a folder and unzips everything to that folder. as far as making a zip or rar file.. i just right click hit new, then zip file or rar file, name the new file, drag stuff into it and that's done. no opening another program

Yeah i understand. Same way for total commander. I just open lots of rars and opening winrar every single time gets kind of old. Easier because it just treats .rars like zips.
