From the Hoyas board:

Quote :
"Oh my God. Just listening to ESPN and one of the commentators (don't know who he is) said something about this being a game that NC State can win. These guys just can't stop themselves."

NCSU can do this. When they want to, they can play just as good as anyone else out there.

I never thought I'd say this, but I think NCSU has solid potential to go far in the tournament. It might not happen this year, but definitely in the future.

From ESPN's 6.45 million brackets submitted:

Quote :
"No. 11 seed NC State was actually a slight favorite (50.4 percent) in its win over No. 6 seed San Diego State. And 18.5 percent of brackets have NC State in the Sweet 16."

Almost 1/5th of the country believes in us for this game! What do you make of that?

I make of it that a lot of motherfuckers watched espn last week. They don't like 'us'; they like the concept of the underdog.

I think the 18% chose us because it was the cool thing to do, not necessarily because they have any clue at our level of play. However, we do have a few experts picking us in this game.

Zo said Howell won't let anyone look at the ESPN commentary on the team, and they're going to play to win, no matter whether they're picked, or go into it as the underdogs.

I'm excited for this group of boys, and they might just be my favorite team we've put together in a long time.

^^ you like this team better than the ones that went 5-11 in the ACC??? Do tell. Is it because of their character?

You guys are acting like the girls who fall for the guys with personality who can make them laugh who also happen have a thick cock and nice car.

Or maybe it's about their attitude, character and resolve. Which has changed quite a bit over the last year. But there are no stats to tell you that, so I don't really expect you to get it.

Yeah, it was awfully tough to root for last year's team, with Harrow pussying out against UNC, Leslie playing like a ballhog and the rest of the team just going through the motions.

But I'm sorry to hear that you have a small cock and a shitty car, face.

ESPN's tournament challenge

Quote :
"President Obama's bracket

The president went 7-1 on Saturday (only missing the Louisville game) and now has 380 points, good for the 97.4 percentile overall (although he is already down one Final Four team in Missouri). Also worth noting for Sunday's action is that he took No. 11 NC State over No. 3 Georgetown as his one major Cinderella team. "

"18. North Carolina State is no Cinderella

Based on their seed, it's easy to label NC State a Cinderella team, but Cinderella teams typically look out of place and win because of luck, uncharacteristically hot shooting, or uncharacteristically cold shooting from the opposition. NC State, on the other hand, looks every bit like a 4- or 5-seed and is a legitimate threat to make it to New Orleans. The phrase "peaking at the right time" is beaten to death this time of year, but if there was ever a team that that phrase described perfectly, it's the Wolfpack."

"A bit of cardiac in this Wolfpack
By Ken Medlin

It's hard not to be impressed by what N.C. State is doing on the basketball court.

They scratched and clawed their way into the NCAA Tournament, and now they've made the most of it, sweeping their games in Columbus to earn a berth in the Sweet 16.

But, it's the way the Pack is winning that's captivating fans.

The video of their Selection Sunday celebration went viral on the Internet, then the last shot by Georgetown had fans on the edges of their seats. There's a bit of "cardiac" in this Wolfpack team, and it's fun to watch develop.

Mind you, it's a bit unfair to compare this team to the 1983 squad – at least in terms of accomplishments. But the us-against-the-world, holding on by the skin of their teeth manner in which they're advancing does feel a bit like the first week of the '83 NCAAs.

Scott Wood said – I think somewhat jokingly – that he felt they had an obligation to not let the selection committee down by their play. I doubt they're spending a lot of time worrying whether selection committee members have been impressed with their play so far, but there is an element of proving their worth in play here.

And they're proving it in a big way."

I wonder if that will help next time we're on the bubble. Can't hurt that we validated to the committee why we were selected. (Not that we'll ever be on the bubble again.... )

Gotta hand it to Lowe. We all know he didn't get it done as a college HC, but he assembled a very talented group of high-character guys. and I'm grateful for that.

"The Good

At this point, there aren't enough superlatives in the world to describe the job coach Mark Gottfried has done in his first year at NC State. He inherited talent, but he also inherited a legacy of losing, complete with disheartened players and fans who had lost their self-belief after the trials of the Sidney Lowe era. In a single season, he's turned it all around, and with Sunday's 66-63 win over Georgetown, he's taken them back to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2005.

It was a classic triumph for the Wolfpack, who trailed 15-8 at the 10-minute mark and 25-15 with five minutes remaining in the first half. In a way, the game was a microcosm for the entire season. While they probed the difficult Georgetown defense, looking for openings and dealing with their own nerves, it was hard not to think about the insecurities and uncertainties State has had to overcome since November. Finally, just when it seemed hopeless, the Wolfpack cracked the defense, doubled their point total in the last five minutes, took a lead into the half, and played inspired basketball to beat one of the toughest teams in the country. Four players finished in double figures — C.J. Leslie with his incredible interior quickness, Scott Wood with his timely 3s, Leslie Brown with his epic baseline rainbow, C.J. Williams with his stoic persistence — and the long-suffering Richard Howell contributed nine while playing a brilliant defensive game on Georgetown's Henry Sims.

You get the feeling that while Duke and North Carolina implode beneath their mutual bitterness and bad luck and failure, something special is happening in Raleigh. The Wolfpack will face Kansas in the next round Friday night, and are a win away from a possible rematch with Carolina. But what I'll take away from this season, more than anything, is Gottfried's goose-bump-inducing pregame speech.

“Here's the deal," he said. "I told you this the other day and I believe it with all my heart: You’re good enough. You’re good enough to do this. You’re good enough to advance. There’s a plane waiting for you to take you to St. Louis. There’s hotel rooms waiting for you. There’s a game waiting for you to be played in St. Louis! Let's go!”

As the team mobbed him in the middle of the locker room, you could hear a single shout: "Together on three!" And that, apparently, is how you resurrect something dead."
