"look ... it's real simple. It's up to the NBA to decide who can and cannot play. Not the kids trying to get drafted."

No, it really isn't. It is mush more risky. Just look at recent big men. Robert Swift and Kwame were one of many notable busts.

If the one year rule didn't exist today, kaleb tarczewski would have prolly been a lotto pick and look what kind of a shit storm that would have created.

When you are taking away the draft rule, you are forcing the scouts to draft off of potential alone which is no science. Sure they know the game well, really well, but they don't have a magic wand.

Plus as I have already said, they can get paid really well... In Europe. Why is it that they don't take advantage of that?c

and again... that's no way kaleb tarsuwatsits fault. that'd be the NBA's fault for drafting him.

I give no fucks that nba scouts have a hard job. That's their fucking job, and if they suck at it then find someone else who doesn't.

This artifical resitriction keeping people in college is fucking dumb.

^that last part is the real crux... given the present situationI have no fucking clue. I'd go to Europe, enjoy a year in a foreign country and dominate some scrubs, then send my tapes back to NBA teams in preperation for the draft.

but they shouldnt -HAVE- to go to Europe if they dont want to. I'm still startled you're fighting that

again, they are not being kept in college. They can play pro in Europe.

^ Not really the scouts fault, but you have just made them take more risks, which means it is less likely to pay off. But, financially speaking if you're putting out a 2 mil/year contract on the chance that you get a Durant or what not, then why wouldn't you take it?

no they're not being kept in college, they're being kept -OUT- of the NBA.

Listen, argue all you want but the NBA will not revoke the draft limit.

I dont even know why you think that it is a good idea. I could do without an 18 year old sebastian telfair, gerald green, martell webster, etc...

european scrubs? Uh, what?

99% of those kids would go to Europe and eat the bench just like Brandon Jennnings did. Those kids are definitely not good enough to run European professionals except in a select few cases (maybe Lebron for example)

I agree the system is a little unfair but it's not like the top guys aren't getting paid. Anthony Davis got a $150k signing bonus at kentucky, no telling what he got while he was there...

better there than here. Better for the NBA and better for the kids because they at least have a contract

^^ I disagree and it appears 99.9% of the high school kids do too.

By going to college they get a ton of things they won't get in Europe

1) More exposure

2) Get to compete on stacked rosters against less talented players which keeps them from being exposed as overrated

3) Coaches who are committed to playing them

4) free education as a backup

5) a better support system in place to keep them focused, happy, sane, etc

6) extra benefits under the table for many

And they still get the per diem, free food, housing, clothing, laptops/camcorders, etc

Going to Europe is a lot riskier for a player in my opinion. They can always go to Europe later if they can't hack it in the NBA. When there are millions in guaranteed dollars available I'd take the less risky option and go to college. I'd take out an insurance policy against injury, it simply can't be expensive for a basketball player because the chance of a career ending injury is almost nil. You're more likely to get hurt in an auto accident or something.

Well then if that's the case don't make such a big deal about not getting paid.

Eh, I still think they deserve to be paid. They are definitely being exploited, football players particularly.

But if they get paid thats pretty much the death of all the other non revenue sports. Not that I really care either way.

http://msn.foxsports.com/collegebasketball/story/ken-pomeroy-college-basketball-statistics-guru-makes-sense-of-unpredictable-world-020513

Quote :
"For example, the rankings system of Pomeroy’s website KenPom.com — popular not just among college hoops enthusiasts but among coaches too — recently scoffed at Kansas State being ranked 11th in the country in the Associated Press poll. The Wildcats had only two losses, but Pomeroy had them ranked 47th. Why? K-State had struggled in wins against bad teams, winning by only three against Delaware and eight against UMKC, and it won a one-possession game at West Virginia that easily could have been a loss.

Sure enough, Kansas State dropped its next two games to stiff competition, Kansas and Iowa State, and dropped to 18th in the national rankings. This week, it’s back up to 10th.

While it was falling in the AP poll, Kansas State moved up more than 10 spots in Pomeroy’s ranking system — close losses against good teams. But he's still not a believer in the Wildcats; they are 40th in his rankings.

Then there’s the case of the University of Pittsburgh, which recently climbed back into the AP poll for the first time since dropping three of four games in the first two weeks of the new year. The 20-5 Panthers are 16th in the AP poll this week, but Pomeroy has them ranked fifth in the country, six spots ahead of 20-4 Kansas, because most of Pitt’s losses have been close games to good teams, and many of its wins have been blowouts, such as a 28-point victory over Georgetown.

Heyyy guys. It's that unofficial start to college basketball season today!

By far my most hated statement about the first Duke UNC game.

Kentucky is NIT-bound without Noel.

I have to wonder what's next for Harrow. He wilted under pressure against Florida. Now that Noel is gone, there is even more pressure on him to create on offense and step up as a leader. He doesn't do well in pressure situations. It wouldn't shock me if he comes down with "the flu" again.

Next year, does he come back to serve as backup PG?

should we be pulling for duke bc we beat them once, or should we be pulling for UNC bc we could be beating them twice (which would boost our RPI).

the pack fan in me says duke. go to hell carolina.

Letting FSU hang around is a bad idea with the treatment Snaer gets in the final minutes. Roy would have already sent the team to the locker room.
