A quick online search didn't find it, but yes there is one. On Outside The Lines, they showed it, and said McCants consented to ESPN using it.

Wonder if his jail statement lines up with taking "regular" classes.

^ Stop saying stuff like that. Just because a guy comes to play ball and skips out of class does not mean that he is going to be an incomprehensible idiot.

Roy's interview with jay is such BS. I hate it when they give a guy a platform to ignore allegations, but the "interviewer" is not allowed to poke and prod at the rediculosity in the answer.

"Rashad claimed that his papers were written for him, is that true"

-" IDK bro"

"Sounds good. Next question."

(from previous page)

http://www.newsobserver.com/2014/06/06/3917363/2005-unc-champs-relied-on-suspect.html

Quote :
"Data she provided to The News & Observer show that five members of that team, including at least four key players, accounted for a combined 39 enrollments in classes that have been identified as confirmed or suspected lecture classes that never met. The data also show that the five athletes accounted for 13 enrollments that were accurately identified as independent studies.

Those classes are also suspect because for much of the last decade, the department offered far more independent studies than it could properly supervise, previous reviews have shown."

^^That's a really good point. If the athletes are so sure they are in the clear they should open up their info for scrutiny.

Now certainly the argument could be made that no one shouldn't feel obligated to have to try and prove innocence and I would wholeheartedly agree and defend this. If the players and Roy had just decided to stay out of it or just a simple statement or something I would understand and not expect anything. But once you go with these strong denials and dog and pony show antics then you should have to put your money where your mouth is.

So this is part of the statement that a bunch of McCants' teammates released

Quote :
"Sixteen players from North Carolina's 2005 national championship team issued the following statement Friday responding to former teammate Rashad McCants' allegations of academic misconduct:

"We are proud of our accomplishments both on and off the floor at UNC. With conviction, each one of us is proud to say that we attended class and did our own academic work. We want to thank our advisers and counselors who supported us, while also maintaining the integrity of the institution. We also want to make it clear that Coach Williams and his staff operated with the highest level of ethics and integrity within their respective roles. We are forever grateful for the lessons we learned on the court, in the classroom and during our time in Chapel Hill."

One of the teammates who signed this, was Sean May. Which makes this interesting:

Quote :
"Afro-American and African studies, May said, offered “more independent electives, independent study. I could take a lot of classes during the season. Communications, I had to be there in the actual classroom.”"

The worst part of all this is that nothing is going to happen to these cheating faggots

even if it all comes out beyond any doubt, isn't the NCAA statute of limitations 4 years? i expect nothing to happen.

^There's a "willful cheaters" rule that lets them circumvent the statute of limitations and hand out punishments anyway, they threatened Florida (or Miami, I forget) with it.

"Do any of the Kerliner apologists have an excuse for how McCants managed to get straight A's one semester?"

Exactly. Who gives a shit about how many players say they went to class and did their own work? What's the UNC defense for a player who struggles through college and all of a sudden gets straight A's? He orchestrated the entire thing on his own and it didn't set off any alarm bells for anybody supposed to be monitoring athletes' academics?

^Somebody on IC kind of addressed that earlier...basically said "McCants is very smart, evident by his grades in high school. But he's bipolar, so he probably actually tried in the classroom the semester he made the Deans list blah blah blah"

it's unclear to me - did the UNCCH* Summer of A's™ help his eligibility to play for the "championship", or not? (it makes some difference... he still cheated and shows exactly how that cesspool operates over there)

1. I'll repeat what I said about that assclown in 2003:
Quote :
"Rashad McCunts is a fucking idiot"

2. As if the 2005 title weren't already tainted with that bullshit call that they benefited from in the Sweet 16, last week's news certifies yet another taint

"Subject: [FORMAL NOTICE] Message from Chancellor Carol L. Folt

Dear Carolina Community:

Over the past few days, I have received many questions from members of our community in response to an ESPN story on claims – some new, some not – regarding academics and athletics at Carolina. It is clear that our community cares deeply about these issues, and I want to assure you that we are doing our best to resolve remaining questions. I also want to take this opportunity to reconfirm that we are going to respond to these questions at the right time, and to provide some perspective as to how Carolina is moving forward.

First, we take reports of academic irregularities very seriously, which is why UNC President Tom Ross and I hired former federal prosecutor Kenneth Wainstein in February to conduct an independent investigation into these very issues. Mr. Wainstein has full autonomy and authority to ask the tough questions and follow the facts wherever they lead. I believe we have a responsibility to our students, faculty, staff, alumni and University community at large to ensure we get this right, to empower Mr. Wainstein to investigate fully, thoughtfully and without any interference – and I encourage anyone who has relevant information to contact him directly.

This process takes time. Until the investigation is complete, we may not be able to respond to each new report or allegation. In some cases that is because we do not want to jump to conclusions or otherwise impede the investigation. In other cases it is because we must not violate our students’ federally protected privacy rights – even when doing so limits the extent to which we can correct inaccuracies and defend our former student-athletes.

Once we know the extent of Mr. Wainstein’s findings, which he will release to the public, we will take appropriate action, building on the significant reforms we have already implemented. At that time we will also be better equipped to respond to individual claims. Until then, we appreciate your patience and understanding. I encourage you to visit http://carolinacommitment.unc.edu to learn more about our ongoing work.

You and I know that Carolina is so much more than these immediate challenges. As I write this, I am reminded of our faculty and students who are conducting research and innovating to improve lives, as well as our alumni who are leading companies and founding non-profit organizations that serve our state and communities around the globe.

Finally, we recognize that we will remain part of the broader national conversation on these issues. As the nation’s first public university, we also have a responsibility to lead it – both with words and actions. We will do this thoughtfully, responsibly and thoroughly, in the finest traditions of this great University.

Sincerely,

Carol L. Folt"

lol at that link...2 of the first 5 words are "Transparency" and "Accountability" mentioned. Nothing screams transparency and accountability than denying any wrongdoing and refusing to release any information

has any single institution ever hid behind FERPA as much as these assholes?

Roy Williams has nothing to do with academics when it comes to the AFAM majors Mccants/May/Felton (and the other two of the starting 5 of the 2005 team). When it comes to guys who take real classes like Marcus Paige, Tyler Zeller, and Harrison Barnes, why, he knows their schedules, grades, and accomplishments etc. etc. It's really a matter of timing and circumstance for when Ol Roy knows what's going on academically.

haha he called out Doherty and Dean too

Jalen Rose called out Roy as well

McCants is basically championing for the student athletes who don't get an education or monetary compensation for what they do for the schools. But he has no qualms about pointing out how it's systematic and it happened at UNC. Basically said all the other players / former teammates are protecting UNC instead of telling the truth.

this is all so great. roy is so fucking bad at dealing with the media to begin with and you know his blood starts boiling every time he has to answer questions about systemic cheating. i'd love for him to go colonel nathan jessup next time he's interviewed. "did you order mccants' grades swapped o--" "YOU"RE GODDAMN RIGHT I DID!"

"I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for McCants, and you curse the university. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That college sports, while tragic, entertain people. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, wins games. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that bench, you need me on that bench. We use words like scholar, achievement, discipline. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent playing basketball. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the banners that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide them. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a basketball, or take a charge. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to. "

There ya go Roy.
