So I finally went to Ulta to get a lesson in makeup. Ended up spending ~340 (thank the Lord for the 20% off coupon I had...) on what looks like a tiny amount of stuff. Also, I figured I should just go ahead and trash all the ancient makeup I've been holding on to since high school/college

Bought: Trashed:

I forgot to take a pic before the nice lady painted my face with all this stuff, so it's not quite 'before and after'... more like, 'done and undone with lots of face wash'. I'm hoping this will be okay for the wedding, but I'm also planning to learn how to do some more toned down eyes as well as wear the foundation on the regular.

That looks great! I really need to go through and trash the old stuff. It's probably got all sorts of bacteria in it by now, and I haven't used it in ages.

Your eyes and cheekbones look amazing.

The wife and I have been picking out items to live on our planned built-in (hopefully we get to start this within the next month or so depending on our schedule). For reference, the built-in is going to be white with grey painted back walls, stainless steel pulls and the counter-top surface of it will be an oil-rubbed walnut.

Really loved both of those items. Clean and modern looking but they still have a lot of character.

Anybody here wear UPF clothing? Where is a good place to look? My dermatologist gets hers from REI, and I've looked online and see some good stuff, but I'd like some options, and also maybe something not so expensive!

^ I'd love to hear your dermatologist's opinion on UPF clothing.

Normal woven fabric already has a high UPF rating, because it inherently blocks light. It's why you get awful tan lines, and your skin doesn't tan underneath. I personally believe, as a textiles person, that the extra UPF stuff on fabric is really just a gimmick to make people feel safer.. I'd like to see research otherwise.

I've just seen normal fabric in our textiles laboratory get pretty good UPF ratings. Why the extra?

She recommended it to me because of the photosensitivity I have been having, but she puts her whole family in it when they go somewhere or do something where they will be out in the sun all day. I never thought to research it and see what others think.

Thank you!

I just read an article on upf clothing (and that makes me an expert) and it is just a rating system, upf rated clothing usually has a tighter weave than normal clothes and is darker, and there are different level, most of the ones Ive seen are 30upf which is medium level, but there are some higher.

bah, if it were only that simple. my job pretty much requires me to be outside a significant amount of time, especially with summer coming up.

so no more opinions on upf clothing? I have to do something. Today I felt like a vampire when the sun touched me. And no, that doesn't mean I sparkled like diamonds.

My mother has had skin cancer and worked outside until she retired. She invested in a hat, UPF jacket, and always wore pants. For the summer, I'd get some sort of cover up, hat, protective leggings, a rash guard, and sunscreen. I think that with those pieces and some light weight long sleeve shirts/pants that you should manage.

I have a bunch of lightweight pants now, and a couple long sleeved tissue tees. I think I'm going to invest in a couple staple pieces for when I'm out for long periods of time, and rash guards for over my swim suits.

well, i did. i have like, 50 dresses and tunics and 4 pairs of leggings, mostly black and grey. i reorganized my closet and picked a bunch of clothes to give or sell, so i'll be making room for the new stuff.

which is good, since there's already a pile sitting at my moms and i've still got green + blue leggings, mint stretch pants i'm going to alter into leggings to go with my petticoat a few pages back, a couple pairs of jeans and that red leather jacket sitting in a shopping cart and my trigger finger is getting itchy

Hey, I know some of you ladies missed out or were pinning over missing some Jason Wu stuff. I was bumming around my local Target, and found the large flap satchel on clearance:

It was $15. Anyone want it? I still see people selling them for ridiculous amounts on eBay. I had gotten the rattan-ish bag, and I really like that one better than this one. So, I'm offering up my spoils to the ladies of TWW for the same price I paid for it. I'll ship it to you if you're not in the Raleigh area for whatever shipping cost would be.

It's black trim.

It looks like the packing material was never taken out. There's a little smudge near the clasp (looks like someone with dirty hands opened it once) that I haven't tried to get out. I just kinda grabbed it - can't beat $15 when those meanies on eBay are trying $80-100.

I was surprised at all the pockets inside - middle separation pocket, two cell phone pockets, and then the one additional pocket. Oh, and an pocket on the outside.

I would need to try it out

I returned my Jason Wu crossbody (it was a smaller one) because the strap was way short and the bag ended up under my boob when I crossed it over.

Welp, bag is all gone!

For reference, the straps were the same length Diva as the small crossbody.

How's April 28th work for the swap?
