McD AA game Recap: the crowd sucked I saw little kids with signs yet they wouldnt let me bring in mine I can hardly speak after continuous chanting for amile-nc state as well as cheering for our other guys and booing unc's. I got a high five from amile, tj, and Poythress My cab home was $70, add in 150 for my ticket and it wasnt inexpensive
Overall a good night...prob wont be doing it again next year unless we have another potential unsigned recruit there

Watching purvis last night really has me exicted. He's ready. Considering his size, build, athleticism and position he could be a carbon copy of Jason Williams while he was at Duke. 3/29/2012 2:12:23 PM |

In my opinion, they are almost the same type of player. Purvis is a little bit bigger build-wise and likes to drive more than pass.

Jason Williams was Duke's PG, but he would've been a more than capable 2 as well. It was one of those situations where you wanted the ball in his hands as much as possible.
Next year I would say that Brown and Purvis are a good pair at 1 and 2. Obviously Lewis won't be ready from day one, creating a need for Brown there. I would venture to say that even as a fresh Purvis will be a better scorer than Brown so it's fine to leave him at the two. If Brown's shot improves and he hits the weight room hard in the off season, which I'm sure he will, they could basically both be combo guards. A nightmare of a backcourt for opponents.
[Edited on March 29, 2012 at 2:49 PM. Reason : ^^ I said could be. There is nothing wrong with that. I didn't say will be.] 3/29/2012 2:47:30 PM |

Brown seems smoother than Purvis. That's not a knock on Purvis, Zo is just seems to glide out there ... he makes basketball look effortless. He's also got more length than Purvis and seems to be a better pass/ballhandler.
Both have good athleticism, but Purvis has more explosion to his game. Where Zo seems to glide into the lane, Purvis jolts in there. His shot also seems to be further along than Brown at this stage.
Anyway, they're going to be a deadly in transition next year 3/29/2012 2:48:57 PM |

Purvis definitely looks like a day one starter, and Warren will get heavy minutes off the bench. It'll be nice to have a 3 in the game who doesn't treat the paint like hot lava. I don't see Lewis playing much his freshman year barring injuries. 3/29/2012 3:28:20 PM |

My thoughts off of seeing Warren for those 20 minutes or so that he played was that he reminded me of a college level, not-so-skilled, Mike Miller. He is someone who plays on the perimeter but for some reason always finds his way to the post for a rebound.
also, if Brown does add weight then his speed and "smoothness" will dissipate to a certain degree.

I think the fact that McAdoo is a projected top-10 NBA pick and he comes off the bench as a freshman on a stacked team should bode well for us landing Jefferson. Amile would give us a crazy 10-player rotation (if Leslie returns) with Brown, Purvis, and Lewis at guard and Warren, Howell, Painter, Vandenburg, Leslie, Jefferson and Wood at F/C.
That's a killer lineup that I think is worthy of pre-season all-ACC favorites, don't you? 3/29/2012 4:13:42 PM |
