I'm sorry but that TA singer is shit. Not Ke$ha-shit, but shitty enough to hold back what is an otherwise excellent band.

Also, that "Tragic Girl" song is surprisingly good. Made me listen to Pinkerton again.

Not 2010, but I picked up

Ride - Nowhere (1990)
Adorable - Against Perfection (1993)

this weekend at a used music store. Really enjoying both so far. I had heard of Ride before, but never heard of Adorable. Certainly both enjoyable, though I enjoyed Ride better.

I also picked up Red House Painters - S/T (aka Rollercoaster, 1993) last week after getting into Sun Kil Moon and wanting some more Mark Kozelek material. I'm sure I am super late to the party on this as well but I really dug this record a lot.

That's fucking stupid. Emotion doesn't make his voice sound any better.

I think the rest of the band sounds great...his voice is just not that good. Put down the mic sir and pick up an instrument.

Now that's fucking stupid. TA isn't pop music; they are a rock band. Stickles' vocals perfectly fit the sound of the band. End of discussion.

Bob Dylan was/is a vocal phenom.

So was/is Lou Reed.

So was Jimi Hendrix.

Every band needs one of such to be a success.

^Sheff's voice sounds a lot better than the guy from TA...it's not even close.

You don't have to be able to hit all the notes, but you've got to hit some.

I think Wil Sheff is a much better singer than Patrick Stickles.

Patrick Stickles is also my #1 favorite singer of the moment. I've listened to The Monitor probably 3-5 times a week for the past three or four months.

"Ride - Nowhere (1990)"

Way way back in the olden days when I wrote for Technician, I interviewed Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and asked them how they felt about the fact that everybody says they sound just like Ride.

It was roughly at that point where I realized music journalism wasn't for me.

God damn it. The Fresh & Onlys harmony sounds just like a 70s psychrock band that name's escapes me.

Help me....

Also, does anyone have a HQ copy of the Sun Airway Album?

Yeah that's kind of the last of the unreleased 90s stuff that has been hyped up for so long. I guess there are a few Black Hole demos left for Alone 3, and then that's that.

Something about their sound makes me think they'd be awesome live, despite mostly low key songs

But I'm usually wrong about these things

Gone through the Warpaint album a few times now. It's decent, but I like the EP more.

The Veelee LP is good, but because of the way they use samples in their show it's very similar to what you see live. That's not a bad thing, but it's basically a hi-fi representation of a polished Veelee show. I like it.
