Yeah, that was dirty as hell. The QB was barely moving towards the play when he got hit. Headhunting at it's worst (or finest, depending one what shade of red you're wearing today). 12/1/2012 6:03:27 PM |

Guess what, if you're running walking casually towards the guy who picked you off you might get blocked sized up from 10 yards away and launched into head first." |

College football really, really, really needs to take a hard look at a lot of their rules.
There's no reason to stop the clock on 1st downs, the horsecollar tackles is still just fine and dandy, PI is a 15 yard foul instead of a spot foul, etc.
The horsecollar being fine is just a blatantly saying, "hey, we really don't give a shit about player safety." 12/1/2012 6:49:18 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148439 Posts user info edit post |
agree on the horsecollar rule
dont have an issue with the clock stoppage on 1st down though, imo thats one of the nice differences in NFL and college 12/1/2012 6:50:19 PM |
Doss2k All American 18474 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah the clock stoppage and PI is due to this being college. Many rules get more stringent on the pro level because hey you are getting paid things should get tougher. Kinda like the 3 Pt line in college versus nba 12/1/2012 6:51:37 PM |

For some reason I just assumed the NCAA had already been smart enough to get rid of horsecollar tackles.
Never assume intelligence or consistency from the NCAA rules committee. 12/1/2012 6:52:16 PM |

Yup PI should be spot foul. 12/1/2012 6:52:58 PM |
Kurtis636 All American 14984 Posts user info edit post |
The 1st down stoppage just allows and encourages all the BS spread offense/hurry up offense nonsense that is ruining college football.
PI should always be a spot foul or 15 yards whichever is more. Otherwise there is no incentive not to just tackle a WR once you're burned. I don't mind that they allow faceguarding, I just wish they'd punish PI a little more.
On the flip side, I wish the NFL would get a little more lenient with contact, they've gone too far the other way. They really should go from the 5 yard no contact rule to a a 10 yard no contact rule. 12/1/2012 6:54:14 PM |

Kurtis showing his ignorance again in less than 2 hours. Horse collar tackles have been penalized in college since 2008 or 2009. 12/1/2012 6:54:53 PM |

If Oregon hadn't lost they'd be in right now, plain and simple. Instead they got out-physicalled by a team, like they do every year, and they're out. They had every opportunity to get into the title game and came up small when it mattered.
They've looked damn good this year, but they picked a bad time to lose a game, and the PAC 12 has been pretty mediocre out of conference. That plus the SECs reputation matters to the voters.
If Georgia wins this game they'll have a couple of wins that are better than anything on Oregon's resume. 12/1/2012 7:24:34 PM |
