CBS has partnered with the NFL for Thursday Night Football and will broadcast the first eight Thursday games of the 2014 season.
"NFL Network built Thursday into a night for NFL fans," commissioner Roger Goodell said. "Our goal is to bring these games to more fans on broadcast television with unprecedented promotion and visibility for 'Thursday Night Football' on CBS." NFL Network will simulcast those games and then exclusively broadcast the final four Thursday games in addition to two late-season Saturday night games. Jim Nantz and Phil Simms will be doing all 16 games, unfortunately leaving us without our weekly dose of Mike Mayock. "

Damn, its nice that its going on a non-cable channel, but I'm going to miss hearing Nessler and Mayock[/quote]

I did like Mayock. He did his homework and wasn't afraid to have an opinion on a guy.

Why aren't you guys in here talking about bullying? ESPN is. Don't you care about text messages?

there is definitely more there than just text messages, but whatever

it's pretty clear that Incognito and his crew are ginormous assholes who also happen to be bullies

It's a shame it had to get so bad Martin had to leave the team. I guess better that it came out this way than by a player taking his own life due to bullying.

^^ yep.

And Martin has some mental issues as well. Not that that at all is meant as a defense of Incognito or a slight to Martin. I just mean, Martin's own issues only made the bullying and shit way worse and harder for him to confront and deal with.

Some of those texts he sent to him mom...man. That was some rough shit.

The full report -http://www.scribd.com/mobile/doc/207140764/embed?access_key=key-2msurpvbka68bwcx9tb3&width=360

I felt sorry for Incognito a couple weeks ago, but holy shit does this report completely change my mind. I can't see him ever playing in the NFL again

the Weiss report was an interesting read. While it confirms my belief that the Martin situation was blown out of proportion, it sheds a lot of light on the locker room mentality towards a gay teammate. Both Martin and Incognito seemed to talk shit about a possibly gay teammate, and even the coach made fun of the gay player.

The report is still just a steaming pile of shit that denies any accountability for the Dolphins front office for allowing this culture to exist. The report seems to be worded so that the Dolphins can bounce out on having to pay Martin anything because Incognito and a couple others went "rogue".

So if ESPN is pushing for it this hard, it appears the NFL is definitely going to enact this new rule for 2014:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10514166/slur-no-place-nfl-society

Anyone else think this is just another step towards the end of football as we know it?

I'm against the rule, but this:

Quote :
"Anyone else think this is just another step towards the end of football as we know it?"

is absurd

it's not like we've ever been privy to the trash talk that happens on the field

anyways, I don't think it'll pass

somehow I don't think the people privy to use that word will take too kindly to being told not to by the wealthy land owning class

There is no way to enforce it.

You would have to enforce EVERY racial slur or even profanity.

"Wooten, who previously has urged all players to stop using the N-word, thinks the NFL will rule an automatic 15-yard penalty for first-time offenders and an ejection for second infractions."

lol

so what if there is some pileup for a loose fumble and the ref hears someone drop an N-bomb in the pile but they don't know who it is? Or what if Adrian Peterson runs for an 80 yard touchdown and his fullback is like "good run nigga!" they are gonna move the extra point back 15 yards? Whole things seems dumb.

I just want to hear the first explanation of the penalty by a ref...

"Uh...use of Nig...uh...ummm...use of the N-Word, Defense, 58...15 yard penalty from the spot of the slur...automatic first down"

"Personal Foul, Player #__, Offensive Language, 15 yards from the spot of the foul. Automatic first down." Meh, seems pretty normal to me.

Also no way this gets passed, you'd have to take out all offensive language, and that would be quite hard to police. I actually heard a few people on sports radio yesterday pushing for 15-yard penalty and expulsion from the game for using the "N-word". Now that would be comical. Any white player that got ejected would catch a ton of flack. Riley Cooper might as well call it a career.

Not sure why some commenters are so certain this isn't going to pass. It's already been given approval by the Diversity Police and it's been discussed by the Competition Committee:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10500657/nfl-expected-penalize-players-using-racial-slurs-games

Given ESPN's incessant coverage of the Martin-Igconito story, the Riley Cooper story, etc., if this doesn't pass I'd be surprised.

Is there going to be a distinction between "nigger" and "nigga"? Will black players be called for the penalty?
