To the tune of "Yellow Submarine"

We are going
to Brazil,
With a hope
and a dream (and a dream!!!)

Led by Jurgan
Klinsmann
He's the coach
of our team (of our team!!!)

Don't stand a chance
So they said
Group of Death
So it seems (So it seems!!!)

But we're the Yanks
of U S A
Don't tread on us
'cause I Believe (I Believe!!)

Oh, we all cheer for the US futball team
The US futball team
The US futball team
Oh, we all cheer for the US futball team
The US futball team
The US futball team

It started
With Dempsey's goal
No Landon Donovan
Who needs you (Who needs you!!!)

Then one by one
Our men went down
We lost our Altidore
Now we're screwed (Now we're screwed!!!)

We soldiered on
For the Win
Next was Portugal
What would we do? (What would we do!!!)

We sweat it out
in Manaus
Could have won
Almost through (Almost through!!!)

Oh, we all cheer for the Red White and Blue
The Red White and Blue
The Red White and Blue
Oh, we all cheer for the Red White and Blue
The Red White and Blue
The Red White and Blue

Two down
One to go
Last was Germany
in the rain (in the rain!!!)

Though we lost
our work was done
we survived
Hip Hip Hurray (Hip Hip Hurray!!!)

Back home
A nation proud
Still believing
We'll find a way (We'll find a way!!!)

One Nation
One Team
On to Victory
Today's our Day (Today's our Day!!!)

I really like how they handled the stupid fan who runs on to the field. Everyone completely ignored him and the camera barely showed him. Definitely how it should be.

It was fun while it lasted. Budweiser 2, craft beer 1 (beer connoisseurs have fun with that one) after 120.

No. This WC is the first time that chalk has prevailed in the Round of 16 since the field expanded to 32 teams in 1998.

I guess I just don't get soccer if going 1-2-1 in 4 matches is considered great

I mean I know we used to really suck, and now we don't suck as much, but still

Crazy game. One of our most exciting world cups - maybe the most exciting set of games I've seen us play except 2002.

No midfield and we as a national team have never replaced our solid sturdy back four since they got old about 6-8 years ago. Which leads to:

Quote :
"SOG: 33 vs 8"

We performance-wise played the same game against Belgium tonight as we did against Ghana. It's just Belgium are a lot better team than Ghana.

Quote :
"Great World Cup from us."

Not really. It's par for the course for how we've done lately. This is our results this century:

2002 - 1-1-1 in group stage, lost in the quarterfinals
2006 - 0-2-1 in group stage (Arena stayed too long)
2010 - 1-0-2 in group stage, lost in the round of 16
2014 - 1-1-1 in group stage, lost in the round of 16

So Klinsmann has matched Bradley and got in the middle of Arena's results.

Howard's done for the national team per BigSoccer (although Guzan's a great goalkeeper so no worries there). Beasley and Donovan are almost certainly done. Imagine Dempsey will stay around a little while, but in 2018 he'll be 35. Changing of the guard upcoming.

Our next tournaments are the 2015 Gold Cup and the 2016 Copa America Centenario.

do people who can't understand getting through group at 1-1-1 being a good thing also fail to understand things like divisional standings in baseball and the NFL?

^how many times did bradley and arena get out of a group with the likes of both germany and portugal? and thanks for the cutting insight that a guy who didn't make the roster for this WC is done on the national team.

^ We've not done any better in this World Cup than we have recently. I don't see any progression from the performance of Bradley's team to this one.

Portugal was in our group in 2002 and were considered one of the favorites to win the World Cup going in. We were up 3-0 after 30 minutes en route to winning 3-2 even when we scored an own goal.

Hey, it's great, the U.S. provide entertaining games for the casual soccer fan when they're not bunkering, it's fun for everyone in the country to band together and rally around the team and the friendly time zone this World Cup helped, but I've followed this team outside of the World Cup pretty well for the last 10 years, and Klinsmann was hired to fix some of the overarching problems as he and a lot of supporters saw them after Bradley got fired, and tonight and also against Ghana we exhibited the same problems we've always had. Where the fuck was the midfield? Why were they seemingly losing a substantial number of 50/50 balls, and why were we turning the ball over so much in the midfield? And we don't have Carlos Bocanegra and others in our back four anymore to bail out the midfield time and again. So as a person posted earlier on the page:

SHOTS ON GOAL: 33 TO 8!

A post shamelessly copied from BigSoccer:
Quote :
"To sum up our World Cup: the U.S. play relatively poorly until they absolutely need a goal, then they show ability."

^ These changes are supposed to happen overnight? It's great to say you will keep possession, dictate tempo, and attack. But unless you have the players, you can't. I think JK did a wonderful job with the talent available. Got out of a group with Ghana, Portugal, and Germany, and if you can't see some signs of a style change go back and watch the 2011 Gold Cup.

Not to mention his recruiting of Green, Fabian, Aron J, etc. You think those guys play for Bob Bradley or Arena? There is some serious potential on this roster directly due to JK

Well just finished. 2-1 as predicted just didn't expect them all in extra time. In the end we deserved to lose 8 or 10-1 so I guess it isn't so bad. They were just bigger and stronger than us. We have made progress but we still are not close to the great teams out there. Hopefully we can spend the next 4 years learning what we need to do. We have some younger talent but we have to find the offense to match the defense. Injuries hurt obviously but we still look limited on offense and a lot of that falls on Bradley. Oh well keep their heads up we left it all out there they were just so much better than us. Go USA!

The level of talent available for the next cycle will be unlike anything we've ever had available. 2014 was always going to be a bridge and realistically you couldn't have expected more.

We do need that creative force in the midfield that we have never had (please Gedion Zelalem) but guys like Green, Brooks and Yedlin are legitimately high ceiling skillful players that will play at big European clubs by 2018..

[Edited on July 1, 2014 at 9:52 PM. Reason : Fabian Johnson is great going forward but position wise needs work. good player though.]

going 1-2-1 and not advancing to the quarterfinals is like going 6-6 in the ACC, making the Sun Bowl, and losing to Washington State. you didn't really accomplish anything and no one gives a shit.

also didnt have our main forward/offensive threat either in Altidore the whole tourney.

now it is fair troubles if your program relies on one guy and you dont have a qualified backup but... it is very acceptable to say we couldn't play to our potential too for all 4 games. so a good job doing what we did

This was not the start of th e tounament. Everything in brazil is the "finals". This was like losing in the sweet 16 after barely making the tournament.
