I switched to a divacup a few years ago and it is a huge improvement (for me at least). My period is shorter with less cramps. It has really made things so much cheaper/easier/cleaner (no nasty trash ). There is a learning curve at the beginning (so change it in the shower at first) but once you figure out how everything works it is super easy to use. Biggest negative is usually for people who are squeamish about touching their anatomy, but I don't think it is too intrusive. There are a few different styles if you like the idea but a divacup doesn't quite "fit".

slappy, you have clearly never tried the divacup. It holds much more than a tampon, so the risk of it overflowing is pretty much zero (unlike tampons). No risk of toxic shock syndrome (which I consider a huge plus), it doesn't dry out your ladyparts, and emptying it is less messy than changing a tampon.

There is a small learning curve at the beginning because you have to position it right. Once it's over the cervix it's not going anywhere. This makes physical activities and swimming much easier. The best part is not having to change the bathroom trash every day.

divacup is ok on light days, but on heavy days when the cervix is "hangin" low, leaks can happen when getting up out of bed.

I use a different brand than the Diva Cup, can't remember what it's called but it's a bit smaller and softer silicone. It's basically 1000 times better than tampons.

But I don't have good tampon experiences. I guess I have a weird vag or something because mine always leaked even when they weren't completely saturated.

I think most people that use the cup don't mention it to their gyno, for fear they'll have some uninformed opinion about how "unsanitary" it is (which would only be if you never washed it). The student health gyno at NCSU is a million times better than the one at UNC, so I would actually tell her if she asked.

It's Lunette model 1. It says for light to moderate flow but it handles heavy days just fine.

I'm irritated that I have yet to find a gyno who will approve Mirena for me, much less talk about the possibility of sterilization. I'm settling for Implanon because my doctor insists that placing a Mirena in someone who hasn't had children will be very painful for them (I've told her I'm fine with that, I can handle it) and more difficult for her (clearly, this is the issue).

I have tried and failed to find a comfortable pair of mary janes that would be good for lots of walking on a vacation. I'm hard to fit, have already ordered a pair online that didn't work so I want to get them locally. DSW and Dick's failed me. REI had one that fit, but they were $100 and I was hoping to spend less. Any ideas where to look?

Also, if anyone wants to try on the Jambu ones I posted a page or two ago let me know. I ordered an 8 1/2 but the toe area is too tall for me.

^^ Joshua Hardison at Chapel Hill OBGYN tried really hard to talk me into Mirena, and I haven't had kids. Ended up tying my tubes instead so I wouldn't go to Tijuana to have it done. I highly recommend him, and he's not one of those assholes that tells you that you don't know what you want and he knows better than you. My surgery was uneventful and it's still working 5 years later.

tartsquid, at the time I didn't know who to go to, so I called up the local planned parenthood and asked for the names of docs that did tubal ligations. If they'll do that and PP recommends them, Mirena should be no problem.

YES. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. A million times yes. I went in expecting some moderate pain, and ended up having to hang out on my docs office couch for a while before I felt like I could safely walk out of there and back to the subway without keeling over. Spent the rest of that day curled up at home.

And I've been tattooed down there, so pain isn't normally something I consider to be an issue.

My sister, who has had a baby, said the experience was pretty bad for her too. It was uncomfortable at the doctor's office, but she also had severe cramping for weeks afterwards.

However, she's loved it since then, and hardly ever has a real period.

YMMV, as with any medical stuff. Mine hurt pretty bad going in (measuring the uterus was worse than inserting it), and I was a little bit crampy for the rest of the evening. Everything after that has been business as usual. I think I've had one period in the last two years.

Not so for me either. But (here it comes...and another reason to not have kids for you that choose to be child free) since having a baby even super tampons don't stay in well

This is a good idea.

And I know she's not lying about the pain and that it has the potential to be very intense, but I feel like that's worth it for 5 years of worry-free birth control.

if you've got a credit card and you can trust yourself to only keep one pair, why not try a free shipping free returns site? I mean, I've ordered 4 pairs of shoes and returned them all the next day, and the return cleared before the end of the billing cycle. of course, i also had the money to cover the bill if it took longer, but i find that to be an acceptable way to shop for shoes since i find little in stores to please me as well.

I might have to do the buy/return thing. We've been saving for a house so I have the cash, I just don't want to part with it. 6pm has a bunch of nice looking ones for cheap, so it would be a good deal even with return shipping for 3 or 4 pairs. If only I had a foot that wasn't between sizes. Depending on the shoe, I could need an 8 (rarely), 8W, or 8.5.

they're actually for cold weather, inside snow pants and under jeans and stuff, but yeah, i'm planning on wearing it as PJs.


the skirts are petite and i am tall, so i am thinking they will be about knee length, not that terrible length shown. and i got a size larger and am going to just tighten the elastic since they were only $4 each. the jeans were $5 each so i got 3 pair of each I dunno how, they are back up to $35 a pair on the site!

i'm starting to think about giving that jason wu purse to my mom for mothers day, haha. I'm feeling ambivalent about it and I also can't find anything I think she'd like.

I'm thinking a pair of capris, a couple pairs of black shorts, a couple of knit tops. swimsuit, undies, bra and the dress for the wedding. I also need to go to a shower for the wedding, is the black and white dress ok for that, with that white bolero I had yesterday or a little white knit one? I think my mom would say something to me if i wore it backless :/

I have the same Jason Wu, and love it. And I figured out today my laptop will even fit in it if I don't want to carry my laptop bag around. I took the shoulder strap off though, and just carry with the small handles.

Only thing that bothers me is the latch in the front of the purse doesn't catch easily, and that can sometimes take a while.
