not so fast, my friend
1/2 game out of the Central and 2.5 out of the wild card
if the pitching gets hot (read: not as much offense is needed), then the Redbirds will be able to keep pace for the next 4-6 weeks
I'm not nearly as pessimistic as some 6/23/2011 6:17:30 PM |

After thinking about it, I think this was a good deal. Jackson is a decent young arm in a hitter's park and could be good under Duncan. Marc Rzepczynski is only 25 and clearly better than Trevor Miller. Dotel and Patterson are good rentals until the end of the year. PJ Walters hasn't shown much and Brian Tallet was a waste of a signing. Also Cards are getting 3 possible players to be named later. 7/28/2011 1:47:32 AM |

Takes Carp out with a shutout going to bring in Arthur Rhodes in a 1-0 game. What the fuck!
Carp at 99 pitches and has been dominant all night. Fans booed the shit out of him. Let's give the job to Oquendo already. 8/22/2011 10:42:08 PM |

I agree, but our relievers kill me. We have to have given up 15 late inning leads this year, and that is probably an underestimate. With even an average bullpen we're in first. 8/22/2011 10:56:51 PM |

I'm a huge fan and watch most of the games I can when I'm at home through MLBtv (which is great btw) but this was about as much as I can muster. 8/22/2011 11:18:58 PM |

Quote : | " Matt Holliday was back in the lineup after having to come out of Monday's game when a moth flew into his right ear. Holliday said he wasn't in so much pain as he was annoyed by the arrival of the moth. "It wasn't killing me, but if you can imagine something that far in your ear fluttering the whole time, it's not comfortable," he said. The moth was extracted with tweezers and Holliday put it in a plastic bag, which he displayed Tuesday night." |

What a wasted season. Wainwright healthy = different story completely. McClellan stays in the pen and we are right there with the Brewers if not ahead. 9/4/2011 11:20:31 PM |

Because I am a glutton for punishment, I continue to maintain hope.
6.5 back of the Braves, play 3 against Atlanta starting tomorrow. If we sweep, that puts us down 3.5 games with 16 games to play. Anything less than a series sweep, the season is effectively over. 9/7/2011 10:40:01 PM |

I noticed that as well. Apparently we are the only team that can beat the damn Brewers.
Also fuck Nyger Morgan. What a little bitch.

Motte with a 0.35 ERA since the AS game...lowest ever for STL. Looks like maybe the answer at closer.
With our little run, we are close enough now to make MIL and ATL nervous. 9/11/2011 6:00:27 PM |

Wow. 2 out, 2 run homer by Florida in the bottom of the 9th against Atlanta for a 6-5 win, and we sit 2.5 back, only 2 in the loss column, after taking 3 of 4 at Philly.
I am officially setting myself up for massive heartbreak, but go Cards! 9/19/2011 10:01:48 PM |

Shit we might have to fend off the Giants more than ATL.....but anyway I wrote this season off a few weeks ago when TLR pulled Carpenter with a shutout against the Dodgers and the pen blew it. I'm amazed and enjoying the hell outta this run. 9/19/2011 10:06:41 PM |

I'll give the Cards credit for playing well when it counts. The Braves are a bunch of choke artist ass hats. Cannot believe how shitty Atlanta is playing. The Red Sox and Braves are in a race for worst September collapse. 9/19/2011 10:09:04 PM |

Walking guys up 6-2....but I question why pitch Motte anyway after throwing yesterday.

That's very typical of our season. I wouldn't be surprised if we lost over 25 games this year after holding the lead in the 7th inning or later. 9/23/2011 8:00:55 AM |

So we're looking at needing to go 4-0, and have Atlanta go 2-2. I could see this happening.... not the most likely scenario in the world. I think Atlanta will probably lose at least 2 of those games, so it's really all on the Cards. 9/24/2011 10:09:23 PM |

I think we probably lost 20+ games this year when we led in the 7th inning or later. If we erase even half of those games, and/or had a healthy Wainright....

What's our post-season rotation looking like? Carpenter/Lohse/Garcia? I dunno, I would say Carpenter and Lohse are virtual locks, and Westbrook is a definite no-go. Garcia will probably get the nod, but Jackson has had moments where he looked really good - although they are both really inconsistent. 9/29/2011 1:32:15 PM |
