The number of unemployed rose by 247,000. The labor force normally rises by 120,000 but this month they dumped a few hundred thousand unemployed and discouraged people (I guess they're livin in a VAN down by the RIVER).

I didn't buy that bullshit when the Democrats were using it against Bush, and I don't buy it now. If you have stopped looking for work, then you are voluntarily unemployed, and we shouldn't care about it any more than we care about anyone who just up and decides to stop working.

Same with people who are in part time jobs. If you're working and earning wages, you aren't unemployed. You may well be underemployed, and that's a different discussion, but it isn't unemployed and shouldn't be factored into the unemployment stats.
