you always call the TO on 1st down and 2nd down. the goal is to force them to pass on 3rd (which we did) in which case a completion is probably for a first down anyway which will end up running out the clock, but an incompletion will stop the clock for free 9/3/2009 10:13:39 PM |

Nah, still don't like it. You're free to disagree, but I'm not a "complete dumbass" wrt football. Given how the game was being played, they would've most likely thrown on 3rd anyway the way it was going. Certainly weren't going to do it on 1st or 2nd since the goal was to chew the clock. Difference being though, if you don't call the timeout on 1st and 2nd we would've gone from 3 mins to 2 mins. Think Spurrier would've gone for it on 4th at midfield if the 3rd down pass didn't work out? Dunno about that. 9/3/2009 10:13:51 PM |

Hey dumbass, you're taking what DID happen into account with what MIGHT have happened. At the time TOB didn't KNOW that the 3rd down would've worked, DUMBASS. Hence if it didn't work those two timeouts would've been REALLY NICE, HENCE WHY I SAID IT WOULD'VE BEEN NICE IF HE CALLED THEM LATER AS OPPOSED TO SOONER, DUMBASS.9/3/2009 10:16:29 PM |

well theres only 2 ways you can take this game
a.rusell wilson isn't good anymore or b. sec is just far far superior on defense.
i'm leaning towards b since this is the 2nd game we have seen wilson against usc and its the same thing twice.
either that or its gonna be a loooong season 9/3/2009 10:17:50 PM |

Play calling was awful. Wide receivers were awful. Offensive line was awful. Running backs were awful. It was a whole combination of awful. I don't think RW was to blame, although if he doesn't get out of the pocket then he's another average-sub average quarterback. 9/3/2009 10:20:02 PM |

so, you are just gonna let them roll off 3 minutes with 3 minutes to go and hold your timeouts? All when you can possibly get the ball back by losing a total of 30 seconds by using 2 TOs and getting an incomplete? are you really arguing this?
and YES, they WOULD have gone for it on 4th down when there was only 10 seconds left on the clock because they ran the clock down because TOB didn't call a TO. that's what you aren't getting. There was only time on the clock where you say they should call a TO because the TOs were already called

B is true, but not because of anything South Carolina did this game.
And A is just fucking retarded. Our wide receivers had plenty of chances to give RW a TD, and dropped them. If you're referring to the shitty play for the first half, it's very likely he was told to play very conservatively.9/3/2009 10:21:05 PM |

Fact of the matter was this. 1st down w/ 3 minutes at midfield. No TO on 1st and 2nd = 2 mins left. If the 3rd doesn't convert, I doubt they would've gone for it on 4th and we'd have the ball back w/ two timeouts. If it does work, yeah we're screwed. That's all.9/3/2009 10:22:19 PM |

We actually had two TOs, one got burned earlier. I agree that the outcome of the game was probably not in question, but still. Of course they would've passed on 3rd there but if it didn't work out it would be fourth and we'd have two TOs and enough time assuming some lucky passes. That's all I meant by it. 9/3/2009 10:25:50 PM |

My immediate impressions of this game.....
The good: Our defense only allowed 3 pts really. SC missed a field goal they earned....the 7 points were given to SC by the offense.
We didnt "run out of energy" like last year, we just didnt get it done and executed poorly on offense.
We looked head over heels better this year compared to last year at this time.
The bad: Our offense, which was supposed to be our strong point this year, looked at best average. We just seemed out of sync for pretty much the entire game up until the last few minutes. 9/3/2009 10:36:18 PM |
Maverick1024 All American 4866 Posts user info edit post |
I agree we seemed to castrate RW for whatever reason. I know the coaching staff talked about limiting his running this year to keep him healthy, but I don't think you can completely blame them.
1) SC was fast. Those amazing plays RW made last year -- when he'd roll out and then find someone open downfield or take off for a first down -- weren't happening. Why? Because SC (Norwood) beat us to the punch everytime.
2) Part of me thinks Wilson was a little timid. I know -- it's like calling Jesus himself timid around here. But they said in the pregame that he wouldn't even watch the replay of last year's "hit." Part of me think the one holding Wilson back was Wilson. 9/3/2009 10:37:23 PM |
