Tomorrow I hope to be picking up a rebuilt long block and swapping it in for cheap. Also will be cleaning up the wirinf while I am at it and cleaning up areas that need attention. Pretty excited. Still really debating cams or not right now

Washed, claybarred (a portion of the car), and used some new Meguiars Carnauba wax on the Lexus. Then took it to Discount Tires to get two new Pole Positions on the rear.

Lookin' fly for girls car. With that said, I haven't been in a car with a nice stereo system, in a long time. It was nice to blast some music while crusin' down the road.

On the SRT I have replaced shifter bushings, rear tension struts, battery, trans fluid, front rotors and pads, all flexible brake lines, rebuilt a front caliper and then replaced both fronts , clutch and clutch fork, 4 new tires, and an alignment.

Replaced bank 1 upstream o2 sensor on my dad's 97 328is yesterday.

Still need to do a timing belt and water pump on the srt, but that can wait for the bank account to recover a bit.

was all set to change my oil and inspect the S2000's brakes yesterday...

then I realized in my move I lost the wood 2x4s I have to drive my car onto to make the jack fit underneath Could have used the jack the car came with but screw that. Will do another day after getting some lumber.

On a related note, anyone have some random 2x4s wood they don't want?

Ragged, I usually change it myself. Not difficult, just drive up on 2x8 ramps I made, then reach under and pull the filter and plug. I like to suck the oil out first so there's less chance to make a mess, but it depends if I want to fire up the compressor or not.

Replaced the grille and medallion on the Valiant, rust is almost completely treated in the trunk.

Installed new master cylinder but still only pressure to one wheel. Collapsed brake lines probably the culprit.

I really hope its just the rubber ones though because I really dont want to bend a bunch of little pipe.

Radiator is leaking a little now that I barely touched it with a woodblock I was using to line up mounting holes for new grille.

Got four new 13 inch tires for 200 bucks.

replaced the passenger headlight assembly on the 4runner. it was all yellow and nasty, and got a replacement for only $40.

pain in the ass though, i had to remove the splash guard between the bumper and the wheel well to get to the bottom bolt, but dammit it's done.

I may have a couple 2x4s you can have. I'll check the scraps a little later.

Home Depot and Lowes usually have plenty of 2x4s in the scrap/leftover lumber cart at the back of the store. They'll only be $.50-$2.00 each and they'll probably cut them down to a better size at your request.

i suspect this is the case. The driver's side one was replaced a few years ago after my wife wrecked it, so i had one that looked crystal clear and the other one was nearly opaque. I did the headlight restoration thing on it a year ago, and it already looks like shit again. found a brand new assembly on ebay for $40, and jumped on that shit like Jaybee1200 on the last donut in the box.

ended up with a 3" O/O super44 blowmaster.... sounds faintly like a crustang at certain revs (thinking part of it has to do with the case resonance/volume/ and inlet and exit locations)

waxing your headlights on a regular basis should help prevent the oxidation that causes the plastic to cloud over.

never considered that-- i'd probably assume that the wax would add a layer of cloudy film over the headlights. any recos for a good wax for this?

I use the Zaino line of products for exterior car finishes protection (which technically is not wax) so that's one avenue, though it is expensive. I would suggest asking Brandon1 for a recommendation.

In the future though, waxing your headlights from day 1 onward should prevent the discoloration/cloudiness altogether, or slow down it's onset a lot.

Speaking of headlights, mine have started to get micro cracks near the top

Of course, they don't sell the clear bit separate from the entire enclosure

Here's to hoping some kind soul on s2ki will sell a pair for $cheap soon

damn that blows man. What year is yours again?

The Integra's driver's side window motor is starting to groan a bit

And I think the passenger front wheel bearings are on their way out again.

Damn you 295k miles........

2003

I sanded and polished the hell out of them a few months back and got the top layer looking great, but the damn cracks look to be on the inside. They're not IMMEDIATELY noticeable, but at the right angle it looks terrible

Sucks about the Teg. How many times have you replaced the wheel bearings?

decided not to do cams on my car. I bought a new mishimoto radiator, an fittings for the oil cooler, and other misc. items that have been needing attention.

The old engine is out. The wiring is as cleaned up as I want to make it and now this Friday I will be swapping timing belt accessories, thermostat, water pump, installing new clutch etc on the long block in preparation to pop it in this weekend.

Replaced the broken torsion bar on the Valiant, driver's side.

I guess because it was broken it came out easy as pie.

Should I also replace the good one on the passenger side so I have a matched pair (even though it wasn't broken)?

It was in there SNUG. I hammered on it for a minute and it didn't even budge, so I decided to leave it for now.

I guess my question is this:
Even if my replacement bar is a used bar off another 1964 Valiant, is it possible that it's a different "rate" because it's off a lower mileage car? Do they eventually yield? Would it have been placed under undue stress because the other bar was broken?

If they were new I would say yes. Since they are not i would just drive it and see how it feels. A new bar would settle and change some but I don't think you'll gave to worry about that

I might have to change it anyway...

Just read that you aren't supposed to bang on them with vice grips. Even the slightest little knick in the metal is where a stress fracture will form and snap the bar under load.

Knowing what I know about this particular car (weight, performance, etc), I'm very skeptical of the relevance of that information.

I'm going to check it tomorrow anyway. I'm certain my vice grips didn't slip while I was hammering, and I didn't hammer for very long before giving up. I should have investigated however, why there are specialized tools for removing torsion bars.

The idea behind most is to give you a large surface to hammer on while spreading the load over the bar and not tightening those fasteners very tight (u-clamps).

I'm having a mopar forum decode the codes on the bars; even though its the same model and year as my car there is the possibility they are slightly thicker in the middle (but the chassis/LCA key is the same). If that's the case I obviously have to match them as well.

It's amazing how easy one came out and how not the other is. A week long repeated soak in PB blaster is coming I'm sure.

Torsion bars are actually amazingly simple to work on, and a terrific idea for a straightforward component. Once I decide what I want to do it's a half-hour job.

Brakes are next as soon as some more parts come in!

After that possible shocks and exhaust, radiator. Looking to spend under 1k total.

Put a tire on the Alero. Made it up to Richmond in one piece and with nary a warning light appearing, which is an accomplishment for that car.

Rolled over 175000 miles on the way, which is pretty good for a gm product of the era,

^ Ahh. Disabling the seat belt chime was a bitch. I dread doing this again.

About to replace the rear tires on the IS250. The Pole Positions are just obnoxiously loud, which really disappoints me. Might match the front set and get DWS.
