As much as I hate to defend mambatroll I think he said Arizona would lose in the Pac-10, as in they won't go undefeated...and I think it's pretty silly to assume they're going to beat Oregon and Stanford especially considering the turd of a game they just played against Cal. Keep in mind this is coming from a huge Arizona fan.

Well, I'm UA alum...even was on staff when I was in school...and I've been through a lot with them....so I know full well that UA goes from fucking amazing to wtf.....BUT.....our defense is fucking awesome and last night was fucking retarded with the goiter ref. Horrible fucking calls. Our offense needs some work but I'm not sure how you can say that there's no way they're beating Oregon or Stanford....

I never said there's no way they would beat Stanford or Oregon, just that I wouldn't chalk those games up as wins after barely beating a mediocre Cal team at home (Cal gave up 50+ to Nevada and Arizona couldn't manage more than a field goal until the last 3 minutes bad refs or not). Oregon State and USC aren't going to be cupcakes either. All I'm saying is that ASSUMING Arizona is going to go undefeated at this point in the season is myopic, and if you can't see that then you're a homer.

Having the #1 statistical defense is pretty good evidence of knowing what defense is. It was good to pick the best offensive team in the nation to say they had the #1 statistical defense as evidence that they aren't just not playing defense at all and the entire pac10 racking up stats because of it.

mambagrl has a point here in general... stats are far more useful in any sports argument than someone's very, very biased opinion. And I don't care who you are, your opinion IS biased.

That said, the defensive argument that she stated WAS a fact at the time but it's not even worth mentioning in any argument considering the absurdly small sample...

yes. Stats are important. However, at the time of her post, those stats were based on Oregon having played 3 games. None of the teams played were ranked or even close to ranked. One of those teams was 0-3 and the other two were 1-2.

I don't know exactly how other schools ranked before yesterday but Bama, Zona and Iowa who are in the top 5... all played ranked teams.

So are stats important? Sure. Would a person who knows anything about college football use those stats to back up their opinion about who the best team is? No.
