Nice. If they win it all then it would rank right up there with 83 State and 85 Villanova in terms of Cinderella runs. Yeah Butler was a 5 seed, while Nova was an 8 and State was a 6, but this Butler team is made up of 2 and fringe 3 star recruits. State's team was actually pretty talented and had two McDonald's All-Americans in Lowe and Whittenburg.

I'm not sure who this "cinderalla" is, but regardless of where they were ranked preseason or going into the tournament, a small school like Butler making the NCAA finals is a real big deal in terms of college b-ball.

In the grand scheme of things it's remarkable, no doubt. But if you follow college basketball closely it really isn't that shocking.

Well yeah we know that they were good. Before the season even started, I told my roommate that I thought Butler would be good this year and possibly make a deep run to the Elite Eight or even the Final Four, but look at their roster. Butler's players aren't as talented individually as most of the other teams they've gone up against in the tournament, but they play smart and together. Their defense is great. Also it helps that they have a brilliant coach. Personally I don't care much for the mid-major hype, but Butler and a few other teams, like George Mason, are different. Maybe it's just b/c I'm east coast biased, but I hate Gonzaga. They always seem to have people sucking on their nuts during the year, and some people have even called them an elite program, yet all they've done is make one Elite Eight 11 years ago. How about they make a Final Four before we crown them as an elite program.

^^ Technically you could call 1990 UNLV a mid-major since they were from the Big West, but make no mistake they had elite talent on that team in Greg Anthony, Stacy Augmon, and Larry "Granma Ma" Johnson.

This Butler team is easy to root for. The 2008 Memphis and 1996 UMass teams were easy to root against, not just b/c they were coached by Calipari, but you knew that something sleazy was going on around those programs.
