Honestly, you can't really prevent it...but you can try your best to. And I think just "informing" them is the least you can do. You can put the fear of god in them. I bet Butch Davis' and TOBs' approaches to these things are markedly different. Not just that one is the coach of UNC and one is the coach at State...but that one is military and one isn't...and TOB just comes off as being a no-nonsense kind of guy. Just from perception, you get the feeling that UNC players are running amok kind of like the State players did when Amato was here.

When was the last time there were stories or topics made about Russel Wilson tweets or facebook posts?? (it's actually an honest question, because I've never seen them and was wondering if there has been anything said about them).

They might be all over the place and the reason no one says anything about them is because there is no controversy. But I also bet that TOB doesn't put up with that shit either. Some coaches obviously deal with this stuff better than others. Butch Davis seems to have done a shitty job of it.

I think if I were the coach, there would be several speeches that go include the following:

"I will know EVERTYHING you tweet and put up on facebook...and so will the NCAA...so don't be stupid, use common sense. Cheating will not be tolerated...we will find out. I have "people" in all of your classes that report to me whether or not your are attending, whether or not you are doing your homework, and how you are performing in your classes. If someone does your homework or writes one of your papers, I WILL KNOW. If you are having trouble with a class, come to me, or go to the tutors. They can help you...but you will do ALL of your work. You will not ruin this team and this university by taking short-cuts. I will find out and you will not be on this team."

I know there are going to be some players that are still going to do whatever they want...but I think you can put the fear of God in most of them. And every coach might give speeches that have the same info as I listed above...but some might not...and some might put a little more authority behind it than others.

Either way...there is no way you can avoid blaming Butch Davis for some of this. He's obviously not 100% at fault...but he's definitely fucked up at some point during this whole process and he shoulder a decent amount of the blame.

The professors (or the TAs that did the grading) should be held accountable too. From attendance, class participation, and in-class assignments you can tell if a student submitted their work or someone else's. I'm assuming the professors had a don't ask don't tell policy.

And don't say, "Well there's 300 people in a class, a professor can't track them all." These guys are juniors and seniors. Maybe its different at UNC, but I have maybe had one large class that was more than 20 or so people since sophomore year.

Should be incredibly easy to tell if a football player did his own work or not. If you've ever seen the work of a revenue sport "student-athlete" you know just how incredibly painful those papers are to read. Can't imagine a professor being fooled for one second.

I don't think these student-athletes are some Illuminati masters of deception. It's a group of high-profile people, you'd think between the teachers, TAs, tutors, fellow students, and honest athletes, some kind of word would get out about what was going on to at least part of the coaching staff.

Even if they failed to instill a Fear Of God in the athletes, there will probably be some warning signs and the coaching staff can decide to sweep it under the rug or start handing out punishments.
