We keep losing, and our odds keep rising. I love it.

an ice skating center opened up right across the street from me a few years ago and it is always slammed. i know they do a lot of hockey leagues, and the checkers even play some playoff games there when there's a conflict at time warner cable arena.

Those numbers don't even include the numerous leagues that aren't USA Hockey sanctioned. For instance, anyone who only plays their adult league games at the Cary/Garner/Wake Forest Ice Houses no longer has to be a member of USA Hockey, and that's a few hundred players.

Really? When did that happen and did you know why? What do they do for refs?

Fortunately it's becoming clear that it won't take 17 wins to get in

Couple years ago. The new ownership group has rinks all over and worked out their own insurance deal, which was the only real benefit to players as USA Hockey members.

The rink uses the same refs as always. You have to be USA Hockey certified to ref a USA Hockey game, but there's nothing that says USA Hockey refs can't work non-sanctioned games.

from the ESPN blog:
Quote :
"gandia21: I am a HUGE Carolina Hurricanes fan and I just can't wrap my head around their last trade move, sending Ian White for a 2nd-round draft pick in 2012 and some no name from San Jose. Ian White wasn't necessarily making a huge impact in Carolina by scoring goals and racking up the points, but I feel like he was playing a solid role on this young team.

On the topic of the Canes, our play of late has also scared me. If you take away the spirited effort against Philly on Ron Brind'Amour night, we haven't played well at all! What do you think it will take down the stretch for this team to really make a run for the playoffs and then go deep into the playoffs as well?

My take: Caniac, White is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1; money is tight in Carolina and GM Jim Rutherford has to judiciously decide where his money will go. White will command $3 million plus via free agency, and that's too rich for Carolina's blood given where he'd be on its depth chart. It was the right move on Rutherford's part. The Canes draft like nobody's business and just added a second-round pick. Not bad at all."

do we really have a history of drafting that well?? It's certainly improved in the last 3-4 drafts, but historically, I'd say we're average.

well, historically isn't relevant anymore. We have gotten a lot better, Paradis aside.

not saying we are detroit or anything, but the past few drafts have been encouraging. Can't wait for Dumoulin and Faulk to get here...

Canes need to win tonight, and should. Coming off of a let down game Saturday (which was expected after Brindy night), they ought to be ready for this one. The rags have had trouble putting the biscuit in the basket lately, and they're without Gaborik now.

How would this affect the SE Division?

Nashville I suppose would move over, and Winnipeg would take the place in the West.

Still, fuck Detroit. Move 'em.
