If Ron Rivera was our DC everyone would love him. Shame he's a bit out of his depth at HC.
Some team is going to love him at DC next year, hopefully it's not a team we play often. 12/9/2012 10:41:26 PM |

If you're referring to my post nothing happened, I'm just operating under the assumption that RR will be gone at the end of the year, which seems likely. 12/9/2012 11:32:05 PM |

Being that Big Cat is a former player and Rivera is a former player (even though I've heard it was a Hurney decision and not one of Richardson's top choices), I think he might give Rivera one more year...aka a full year to coach without Hurney making personnel decisions
Of course everything I hear is that if they bring in a new full-time GM before the season is over, Rivera is gone and the GM will bring in his own guy...if a new GM gets appointed in the off-season, Rivera will most likely get one more year to prove himself
also I love this:

Richardson is cheap and rivera has two more years on his contract, I predict he's back next year.
I don't like rivera, but its a little unfair to blame him for the horrible roster hurney assembled. It's going to take a few years to undo the salary cap damage. Personally I say release all the cap killers and bite it next year. We can't afford to waste all five of the cheap Cam years. He's going to be making $20M soon and then our whole advantage is neutralized. 12/10/2012 12:03:29 AM |

where does this completely false stereotype even come from and why do so many people buy into it?
this is the 18th season of the franchise, Richardson has been cheap exactly one year, in preparation for the lockout to be able to get Cam Newton for 1/3 the price of Sam Bradford
he overpays the shit out of old/washed up veterans instead of spending that money elsewhere like in free agency, he's by no means "cheap"
if you want to say he allocates his salary money unwisely, fine, but how is someone who overpays the shit out of players for reasons of loyalty "cheap"

We've always hired relatively cheap coaching staffs so i dont know what you are talking about. He was also one of the first one's to sell PSL's and he has campaigned for taxpayer money for stadium upgrades.
He was also one of the most vocal owners in trying to steal the player's money during the strike, remember? He also completely tanked a season so that he could make huge profits.
He's certainly on the cheap end of the spectrum when it comes to NFL owners. 12/10/2012 12:25:42 AM |

PSLs, ok, but i'd say that makes him savvy more than cheap
and yes, 17 years into the 17.5 year old franchise, he began asking for tax money for stadium upgrades...so in that respect, he's been cheap since mid-2012
he was one of the most vocal of the owners during the lockout, but the other 31 were on his side...that hardly makes him any cheaper than any other owner...and i already conceded he was cheap exactly one year, for the purposes of getting Cam for a 21M rookie contract instead of a 60M contract for an overhyped rookie like Sam Bradford
he's certainly not in the cheap spectrum of owners
i'd expect someone like yourself who followed statistics and finances and general numbers so closely to realize this 12/10/2012 12:29:49 AM |

Yeah since moving to the inside he's been a tackling machine.
Like I said all along it really sucks to have to burn a top ten pick on an inside lb, but he's good enough to justify it and LB was definitely a position of need for us. 12/10/2012 8:41:06 AM |

If you're a big enough pussy to get butthurt over another football player celebrating a touchdown, you probably don't need to be in the league anyway.

I'm sure if he knew he'd get 15 free yards for doing it, he would do it after every play first down or not.

Well based on that pro bowl story last week he's not real popular around the league.
I don't understand why he gets so much attention for his personality. Can't we just evaluate him as a football player? 12/10/2012 9:09:01 AM |

Guess I got my answer...
Some players act like they've been there...some players make a production out of everything. Fans give a pass when its their team and hate it when players of the other 31 teams do similar things.
(first downs are different than touchdowns)

it's not like Cam Newton is Freddie Mitchell and can't back it up. I would celebrate a first down too if i turned a sack loss of 7 yards into a 25+ yard scramble for a first down. on third down nonetheless. ] 12/10/2012 11:01:37 AM |

TO isn't in the league anymore. Cam Newton is the only person in the league who does this after every sing first down.
I'm apathetic towards the Panthers. In fact...I normally cheer for them unless they are playing against Rivers/Wilson/some-team-that-has-a-lot-of-my-fantasy-players. I just find his 1st down "celebrations" annoying as fuck and am not surprised that homer fans "see no problem with it." 12/10/2012 12:12:35 PM |
