^^But to be fair, having the #1 pick versus the #10 pick in that draft wasn't really a huge drop off talent-wise. If we passed on Newton for AJ Green, JJ Watt, or Patrick Peterson, it's not like we would have landed a bust.

Though I think it played out really nicely for us.

i remember floating newton as the #1 pick right after luck decided to go back to school but not as a serious endorsement more as a "fuck it, take the risk"

My comparison of Tebow to Jamarcus Russell rather than Newton to Russell was pretty great. Because they both suck. YOU PEOPLE were comparing Newton to Jamarcus Russell because you're racist.

And Cam has been the ONE exception to the rule on inaccurate QBs. (Not that he's gotten more accurate, but that he's actually been successful in the NFL while still being inaccurate as a passer.)

yeah i think that was my point...obviously you have to take into account team needs and stuff (and hindsight is 20/20 of course) but it seemed like that post was saying "we're unlucky to be picking #1 this year, guess we'll settle for whoever" when in reality most any of those guys would've been great picks at #1. although QB was such an obvious need, there's no point in second guessing the pick at all.

Completion % /= Accuracy. There's a lot more that goes into that number than how accurate of a passer the QB is. If you're throwing mostly short-intermediate passes and checkdowns, then your completion % is going to be better than the QB who's bombing it deep all the time. Cam is behind only Carson Palmer in air yards per attempt, and neither of them have a completion % in the top half of league. Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins and Sam Bradford are near the bottom in AY/A but have a much higher completion %. Y'all watched the games, no one in their right mind would say Cousins or Bradford are more accurate throwers than Cam.

yeah i think it's fair to say that accuracy is something newton has struggled with. he's overthrown WRs throughout his career. the last few weeks he has been pretty damn accurate, but for his career his accuracy has been inconsistent. the beauty of his game is that you'll take his inconsistent accuracy because he can make up for it with his legs. and when he is accurate, it's a thing of beauty to watch him hit shitty ass WRs in stride.

yeah we seem to have one of the most non screesn/vertical passing games in the league but sometimes I also think the short, touch pass is the one thing Cam just can't make

I've always thought Cam's best throw was the mid field 15-20 yard bullet pass, but he's doing nailing the long vertical passes this yr too

Yeah, it's a conscious decision by the coaching staff to limit his short throws. Which is good, because he would fail miserably in an offense that relied on them.
