Pretty stupid to start Carp on short rest and then he only goes 3. Pinch hitter Punto strikes out of course with 2 on. Need this win badly. 10/2/2011 10:37:38 PM |

You couldn't ask for a better Game 5 match-up. Carpenter has been the face of the St. Louis pitching staff for.... a long time now. This has been an awesome run, and win or lose, what a great season. 10/5/2011 9:59:57 PM |

Great game last night. I was upset that they wasted Carp for game 2 at the time on 3 days rest but it worked out finally. There were some great plays last night on D to save that game but he was awesome. 10/8/2011 9:39:00 AM |

We gotta win one at Milwaukee somehow....not too upset we scored 6 runs off their ace. They were supposed to win this one. Lost game 1 to Philly too. 10/10/2011 1:06:39 AM |

It's easy to say this now, but I really don't think our "upset" of Philly was all that much of an upset. Sure, Philly had 12 more wins than the Cards, but as I have repeatedly posted, there were probably 20 games that any "typical" team would have/should have won if not for monumental bullpen collapses. So in reality, the 12 extra wins by Philly is not really as big of a gap as it seems.
I guess the big "upset" part is more attributed to the fact that Philly had a 3-man rotation that was probably better than our best guy. Teams have won the World Series with an average team and two really good pitchers (the Diamondbacks with Johnson and Schilling come to mind), but to have three guys that are in the prime of their career is pretty amazing.
Anyway, we looked great tonight. Our offense is clicking big time. Here's to going up 3-1 at home. 10/11/2011 7:41:58 AM |

^^He's battled tough injuries all year. He still hit .296 and had 22 homers and 75 RBIs in only 124 games. 10/12/2011 11:02:50 PM |

Yeah, but he seems like he sucks balls in the playoffs. His error cost us Game 2 of the 2009 NLDS. He's 7 for 31 (.226) in the playoffs, which is bad. It's especially bad considering he gets a LOT of good pitches to swing at hitting after Pujols. He swings at a lot of pure SHIT, especially stuff that is low in the zone. You really can't blame swinging at bad pitches on an injury. I say we trade him for Cliff Lee and Roy Halliday. And cash. 10/12/2011 11:35:40 PM |

You're right, I take back all those things I said after his performance tonight. OK, not really.
I seriously think with all the talent we have offensively that we would be much better served either signing a better starting pitcher (Westbrook just aint cutting it) or freeing up more $Texas so we can show Pujols the money. 10/14/2011 6:31:00 AM |
packboozie All American 17452 Posts user info edit post |
IF we let Pujols walk, re-sign Furcal, re-sign Edwin Jackson, move Berkman to first, Craig everyday RF. Chambers is a good 4th OFer with speed. Maybe sign Prince? A closer like Bell? Lots of options, still future looks good.
Furcal - SS Jay/Craig - CF Holliday - LF Berkman -1B Freese - 3B Craig/Jay - RF Molina - C Skip/Theriot - 2B
Bench: Descalso, Theriot, Chambers, Shane Robinson, Catcher
Wainwright Carpenter Jaime Lohse Jackson
McClellan Rzcepzski Lynn Salas Motte
Pretty solid team and probably NL Central favorites even w/o Pujols since the Brew Crew is likely to lose Prince and KRod. 10/14/2011 11:21:07 AM |

OH WE BACK.
Tonight was a beatdown.
To be honest, I think St. Louis has pretty much been dominant all the way through all 3 games--we just had one bad inning in game 2 that cost us the "W". I mean, the first 2 games were close--I think the Cards were dominant, but not far and away so. Still, we've been ahead just about all the way through all 3 games, and would be winning the series 3-0 were it not for the 9th inning of game 2. 10/23/2011 12:33:47 AM |
