Last week was supposed to be a week for the Braves to make up some ground on the Phils and Mets because they were playing strong teams and the Braves were playing sub-500 teams. Oh well for that shit. How the fuck do you go 2-5 against the fucking Reds and Cardinals.
I feel bad for Texieria and Smoltz. They seem like the only players who even give a flying fuck about trying to win.
Some pictures for this team:
I guess the only hope for the Braves is that of the four teams ahead of them in the wild card, three have to play each other and the D-backs down the stretch so none will probably get too hot and the Braves will get a chance to beat the Phils. Either way this August swoon makes me 8/27/2007 12:02:20 PM |

i think the silver lining is soriano will now close games instead of Fat Wickman 8/27/2007 12:03:24 PM |
rflong All American 11472 Posts user info edit post |
^ Soriano has been worse than Wickman in the 2nd half. Soriano seems to give up a HR everytime he takes the mound. The only reliever that I think we should let close is Moylan because nobody can hit his shit hard. The few times he's given up a run it is because of some texas leaguer type hits. 8/27/2007 12:10:53 PM |

it's time to start regrouping for the off season. We need some pitching and we may be able to get it now that we don't have andruw jones' salary looming... 8/27/2007 12:51:06 PM |

It's not like there is any good pitching on the market. You can overpay schmucks like Gil Meche and Adam Eaton and get nice 4th or 5th starters for ace prices.
You have to build rotations from within or make trades for young pitchers. Unfortunately for you guys you traded away a good deal of your young pitching depth for offense that you didn't really need...
Who are your top young pitching prospects now? Reyes? 8/27/2007 3:01:36 PM |

i hate this. I've never had to deal with this for the past 15 years as a Braves fan... a real lack of talent at pitching... 8/27/2007 3:04:46 PM |

no, we traded most of our young pitching for veteran pitching
the wainwright trade being the one obvious exception8/27/2007 3:30:55 PM |

I was more talking about Harrison, who was, I believe, your top young arm. Feliz is too young to really project.
It would be worse, you could have traded Haren and Blanton for Mark Mulder. 8/27/2007 4:11:16 PM |

Indeed it was a terrible trade, but it was Haren and Kiko Calero and Daric Barton for Mulder.
So arguably the best AL pitcher, a solid reliever, and the top AAA catcher for Mulder, who hasn't made a start this year. 8/27/2007 4:16:26 PM |

well the injury bug isn't helping either. dotel and gonzalez would both be excellent choices at closer over the fat one, but they're both out. we'll be ok, but it might take a couple more years to stockpile some more young talent. if we have to overpay for a mediocre starter in the meantime though, so be it. smoltz maybe has 1 or 2 more seasons left in him, and hudson is hot or cold it seems. after them, 8/27/2007 5:43:48 PM |

and yet wickman was an excellent choice over reitsma
who was an excellent choice over kolb
we need someone we can actually depend on (for an entire season!), not some washed up guy we're just taking a chance on
i'd say devine is still tabbed for the role in the future, he just hasn't shown anything to earn a spot in the pen
maybe when rosters expand in a week and we're completely out of it, they'll give him a shot

Well since this season is now basically over, maybe the Braves can play spoiler with the Mets. If the Phils take tonight's game, they'll be three back and then hopefully the Braves can knock the shit out of the Mets this weekend to atleast allow the Phils to get even closer.
I hate the Phils as much as anyone, but I hate the Mets too and I like seeing a good pennant race. 8/29/2007 11:40:59 AM |

^ Diaz would make a solid DH, but he is pretty crappy in the field. He'd fit well with a lineup like the Red Sox (high BA, no speed), but alas they already have the best DH in baseball.
I do hope the Braves keep him and make an effort to get him regular PT next year. 8/30/2007 2:38:52 PM |

I really hope the Braves play well this weekend just for the sake of screwing the Mets over. A team as talented as the Mets should have ran away with the division considering how horrible the Phillies started the season and how disgustingly horrible the Braves 3-5 starters are.
Also does anyone know when Chuck "I throw like a girl" James or Octavio Dotel will be back from the DL? 8/31/2007 2:37:12 PM |
