yea^^ he is playing like a goon out there. if he keeps it up, he has deserved a yellow for persistent infringement. you don't see a refs give that as much though if it is going to be someone's second yellow.

and i agree about looking tired. we just made the exact substitution up top we needed but our backs are looking tired though too and i'm more worried about the defense at this point.

we're kind of in that defensive mode now that is always frustrating as a US fan. I mean, I'll certainly take the tie at this point, but we had scoring chances earlier when we were putting some good passes together. now we're just passing terrible and kicking the ball downfield without a lot of thought it seems like.

i'll take it. we didn't look great, but certainly had a chance to win it. I think England should be worried though that they didn't have more scoring opportunities with the defense they were facing out there today.

As far as Im concerned this leaves the door open to win the group so Im happy even if it took a bit of luck. Now we need to take care of business in our other two games and get wins and go for the throat if its there for goal difference assuming that england is gonna win both of their last 2 as well.

^^yep. the last quarter of that game we definitely were playing for the tie which brought the excitement down some. But, if we were going to play for a tie in any of these games, this was it. Puts us in a great spot to possibly win the group still.

^we actually had a few chances late in the game. i don't think the US went into "get the point and go home" mode until about <10 minutes left. England was pressing until very late, and i was pretty worried that they would sneak one in, so i'm pretty satisfied with the defense being able to clamp down late in the game.

what are the odds of algeria being atop the group after tomorrow?

^^i agree to a point, but several of those chances earlier were a result of counter attacks with England pushing up so much and not really because we were pushing forward heavy.

but yea on past this game, obviously we hope for a tie between the other two teams, but after getting a point from the group favorite, our fate is in our own hands against teams that we are fully capable of beating.

definitely. The US has been lucky to have great goalkeeping for over a decade now. It has been one of the big factors to us being able to hang with good teams and teams that are fundamentally better than us during that time period.

The US could have easily just given up after that 1st goal so I am impressed how they played after Gerrard's shot. Granted England blew multiple chances and obviously gave the US their goal, but who cares now, a tie is a tie.

^as many chances as England had, altidore's shot off the post was probably still the closest to scoring a goal outside of the 2 that went in during the game.

^yeah, he showed freakish speed on that play, and he had the drop on carragher all night. it's a shame we couldn't keep feeding him.

here's to hoping that this match will humble england supporters a bit, who seem to always think that this is "the year"

Typical USA gift goal to start the game and succumb to nerves.

DeMerit did a good job shutting down Rooney. Rooney was absent from the game until about 20 minutes left. Cherundolo had a perfect game for me. He made Milner look bad until he got subbed out and then completely shut down SWP for the most part while still managing to get forward for some offense. Howard put in a typical Howard performance and saved our ass on more than once occasion.

Got the result we were obviously playing for. Time to go out and beat dat ass against Algeria and Slovenia.

Also, fuck Clark. Goddamn he was garbage. Can we please play Edu or Torres or SOMEONE? Looked slow and lethargic all game long and was directly responsible for the England goal. And Bradley needs some serious work on using his subs better because when the team starts looking tired a sub can pick the whole team up. He waited until like the 77th minute for the first sub.

WOOT USA!

that was a great result. i was really confident we would play competitively well against england but im quite surprised to see how similar the possession is from both teams. i didnt get to watch the first half since i was driving (listened on radio) but we defended pretty well as a team in the 2nd.

lol at robert green. this is so fucking funny to me that england are constantly plagued. i havent read everything about the game in here yet and im sure someone has already said something about scott carson pretty much costing england a spot in Euro 2008. ( here it is and lol at how similar it was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPOanfqsp6E )

man im still kinda chuckling to myself. i cant recall any crazy gk moments in the WC but that has to be one of the worst of all time.

i knew wayne rooney wouldnt do shit this game. he has been awful since march or april or whenever he got hurt with united. hes gotta be drained too. i hope england get knocked out early so he can rest up for next season in the epl.

but aside from the green blunder, england lost this game to me when they subbed out milner and brought in SWP. im not entirely sure why he was subbed out so could someone let me know if it was something injury related or something. but having 2 right wingers on the field was tactically stupid and i dont know why a tactical genius like cappelo did that... lennon is an awful crosser of the ball and that could be attested to quite a few people up here who watch him in the EPL and SWP is not left footed so all you had to do was force him wide and dont let him cut inside. so in essence, usa had the wings covered if they didnt let their concentration lapse. and with the fact that lampard didnt do anything the whole game and gerrard apparently disappeared after his goal, that pretty much lead us to the draw (and nearly an altidore winner)

Thing is, I'm sure all of England are saying that they deserved to win and it was the "fucking goalkeeper's" fault but you would think a country so invested in football would be able to develop a damn keeper who won't go out there and embarrass themselves.

And I thought Gooch was fantastic today personally. We would have been fucked without his tall and physical figure in the middle of the backline today IMO... And obviously Howard is one of the top keepers in the world. The way he holds on to balls fired from 6 or 7 meters away is unbelievable...

^^ They said Milner was recovering from illness so that might have been it but to completely honest with you, Cherundolo was set to tear his ass up down the right side. He should have been carded for a professional foul on Cherundolo in about the 10th minute in my opinion and finally got booked about 20 minutes later for persistent infringement and he just did not look good at all.

Like I said though, I thought Cherundolo played a perfect game for the tactics we had going into this match. Didn't ever get beat one on one and got into offense enough to be positive.

They said on the TV broadcast that he might not have been feeling 100% because I think he had a bought of the flu. Also he got that early yellow card so they may have been worried about him getting a 2nd card and getting booted. Also he wasn't really playing well anyhow.

Met some fucking brits on the way back from the bar (at about 4:35 AM). They kept talking shit, so we told them to suck our dick and hang their head in shame for their pitiful playing. The only response was "Fuck USA," lol.

great post, I agree with all of it. Dolo/Gooch were the best players for us today, in my opinion, and I thought Bradley waited too long to make any changes. I mean, we got the point, so you can't fault him too much, but bringing Torres/Feilhaber/Holden on earlier may have given us the boost to go on and win it.

and definitely Clark, wtf... 100% at fault for the Gerrard goal and didn't add anything offensively. I really really hope we see Torres next week

I don't know. They also said the reason Carragher came on at half was because Ledley King still wasn't completely fit so, uh...

lulz I'll never understand England.

Hart > James > Green
What the fuck does Capello see in Green?

We won the first half, they played better the second half. It was a game deserved of a draw, but if Jozy's strike would have snuck in, I would have went ape shit.

I bet kiljadn is pissed.

EDIT: Oh yeah and for once I actually agree with you people.

Dolo was a beast, Gooch actually played like he wasn't injured, DeMerit was solid.

Clark was absolutely terrible and not just on Gerrard's goal. He was lost the entire first half.

Jozy played much better than he has recently, Findley again proved he has no ability on the ball and his sole purpose is to stretch the defense, and I'm convinced Dempsey plays with a four leaf clover in his pocket.
